Particularly looking forward to this one, not that I am not ridiculously excited for them all but...whether it is seeing Damien in the costume we first saw here or the prospect of him on screen with Julian Barratt ( I suspect both ) but... wahhhh!!!!

In case peeps have not yet seen it, here is the new clip of the upcoming ep (not posting it in our Hal clips and trailer section as it has no Hal in it.)

Wonderful Pie and Prejudice synopsis from the Radio Times

http://www.radiotimes.com/episode/vcgxs/being-human--series-5---3-pie-and-prejudice

Radio Times Review by: Gill Crawford

This series just gets better and better, in a superb episode from writer Jamie Mathieson. We leave the devilish Captain Hatch behind for a week and welcome Julian Barratt as a faded weatherman channelling his inner Alan Partridge and offering Tom a new perspective on life as a werewolf. And Amanda Hale (from Ripper Street) gives an eye-opening performance as a 250-year-old ghost who’s not as ladylike as Hal thinks.

As ever, the strength in the show is the bond between our three heroes: but are the cracks beginning to show?

ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME

3/6. Tom crosses paths with charismatic werewolf Larry Chrysler, who made a success of himself as a minor TV personality. Inspired by the encounter, the plucky lad decides to clean up his act and take control of his life, but there is more to his new role model than meets the eye. Meanwhile, Hal secretly arranges a meeting with his old friend Lady Mary, a Regency-era ghost, and Alex's curiosity prompts her to tag along. Supernatural comedy drama, guest starring Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh) and Amanda Hale (Ripper Street).

I had to watch it again - when it finished I was so gobsmacked by the last few minutes that I couldn't remember anything else!

That was absolutely fantastic!  Definately more character driven, which I like.....it was nice to have a break from the hectic devil stuff. It was lovely to get a bit more Tom.....bless him.  I agree, Ruby - you just want to give him a hug.  I really wish that something nice would happen for him.   Feel like the whole episode gave the characters a bit of space to get to know each other better....which makes me happier.  Loved Lady Mary and her madness, and thought the scene when she tried to stake Hal was just brilliant...so funny.

But I can't deny that for me, no surprise, it is all a bit eclipsed by what is happening to Hal!  I thought Larry was great, and quite despicable enough to deserve what he got.  But......oh my god, Hal!  That wasn't letting the vampire monster out!  That was just murder, it had nothing at all to do with bloodlust.  I initially thought that Hal was going to kill Larry but then almost doubted it because he was so calm talking to Tom.  I was really pleased that they went back and finished the scene cos I did wonder if we'd find out.  It really was chilling when his eyes went black.  Once  they'd announced that this was going to be the last series I was expecting Hal to give in to the bloodlust and rip someone's throat out at some point.  And we know that Hal on blood can be a bit psycho.....but I was not expecting that!

Did you notice that he told Lady Mary 'it must be over 50 years since I last killed a human for blood'.  Am I the only one that's starting to find this unconvincing?..........and how relevant is the 'for blood' bit?  It was 55 years (he told Rook he'd been dry for over 60), why the 'must be'?  Or am I over-analysing?!

Really and absolutely enjoyed this episode. The last two minutes was jaw on the floor time for me. I wondered when Hal and Larry's initial confrontation scene ended too soon that it was unfinished. When Tom said he was a good bloke and Alex told Mary that he wasn't that bad, that he did something bad. Is this a portent, is that monster beginning to come undone? Those last two minutes...

I have to admit, even though Hal was essentially playing a role with Lady Mary with the tweed suit and the cravat, i found it awkward and forced for want of a better description. It wasn't my favourite part. Now Amanda Hale, who played Lady Mary was an absolute hoot, mad as a box of frogs.

I thought Michael Socha was absolutely fantastic tonight, that scene with the trio in the woods, the emotion on Tom's face, was heart wrenching and drenched in emotion and well played by everyone, fantastic speeches from both boys. I just wanted to hug Tom and say 'there there'

But that final scene when Hal's eyes went pitch black and he asked Larry whether he wanted to speak to Harry just chilled me and scared the living daylights out of me. The come down after that, the expression on Hal's face was portentous.

Now that was an old fashioned Being human episode!

I was a bit disappointed at first. Loved Julian Barrett, and great to see more of Tom, but thought it a pity they were just playing in a Tully Redux. And then it turned brilliant! Mad Lady Mary and what the future could hold for Alex ... a future dictated by Hal, maybe in as little as three episodes?! Tom even more friggin adorable and the apparent lack of prospects for werewolves (Tully, Larry, George in that greasy spoon, just why does the SP who gets to be normal most of the time have the biggest trouble living a normal life? Because they can? And so they get to fail like the rest of us and that's just life?) And then there's Hal! And how just plum interesting that he killed without drinking. As fifi highlighted, he says he's been dry ... But not necessarily non-homicidal! Maybe it reflects the kind of man Hal became before he turned. Blimey!

You know, while i'm not excusing what Hal did to Larry, i don't think that Hal himself intended to kill him. He was certainly in a rage, that he'd reduced Tom to that shell in the tent, hating himself and his existence. I get that wanting to rip someone's head off for hurting the one person that you care very much about (and i think Hal does, i think he truly cares for Tom) but it deteriorated. Larry pushed him and pushed him and despite Hal's warnings to him not to and those warnings being ignored, Hal just snapped. He retaliated, i defy anyone to not to in those circumstances. Larry literally bit off more than he could chew when he baited Hal like that. But that glimpse of the killer, of Lord Harry was truly chilling. His realisation afterwards also. As has already been said, this wasn't a blood lust killing, it was pure anger.

We liked it then?!

Just to say, please do also go and comment on the official Being Human blog feedback post. we are very Hal-centric here (which I can't apologize for, this is a Damien Molony forum) but this fab show deserves to have fan feedback! I will myself later when I have collected my thoughts a little more..here is the topic over there >> http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/beinghuman/posts/Pie-and-Prejudice-reactions

I am very glad the BH writers ramped up the intensity and ambiguity relating to Hal, leaving us to often wonder at his motivations, and there be a number of different possiilties. Did he lie to Lady Mary to protect her? to protect himself? Did he do that to Larry because he was proteting tom? or protecting himself? was he so overwhelmed in defense of his friends that he lost control?

He shows himself at once to be pompous, arrogant, selfish, contained, secretive, monstrous and also deeply caring, self sacrificing, humble, with heartfelt love for his friend, protective and loyal.

Did he call Mr Rook simply to help clear up his mess? or to take him up on his original offer.... perhaps realising he is losing control and needs to find a way to manage it without hurting people?

and yes...HAL-arious with the bowing!

The bowing was too funny.

Just realised I'm being an idiot. Of course Hal didn't feed off Larry - toxic werewolf blood! I thought I'd made peace with this silly retcon, but clearly a part of my brain is still rejecting it. But Hal did still say he hadn't killed to feed for more than fifty years, so he's still being specific with the wording, he has still killed - in self defence, defence of others. And as much as he was protecting Tom, there's loads of things he could have done before reaching for the lamp flex! That was anger and other impulses winning out.

When Lady Mary tried to stake Hal i was hoping that Alex would set her hair alight! I see the Amy Winehouse look was fashionable back then too!

I just got through watching the ep again via Iplayer and listening through headphones. I catch so much more and notice more that way.

The robe Hal is wearing, it matches the colour of his eyes almost perfectly. What other outfit of his does that? the tweed suit. Coincidence? It was a bit of an odd colour (unless he's had the robe a very long time) but i wonder whether the colour choice in this case was deliberate.

The throttle scene. Two things. Was it just the lighting or were Hal's eyes black as he throttled Larry? Not full eye blackness but the pupils? Mitchell's eyes did it in the kitchen post BTM ("it's the ghost") but he was coming down from a severe blood high. I think it may have been the lighting but they looked very very dark.

Did anyone else hear that final whisper of "hello?" just as he released the chord? because i did and that freaked me out more than the entire scene. Such menace.

'The throttle scene' is just compulsive.  I keep watching it....and every time my heart starts thumping.  I've said before that I only wanted to see 'bad Hal' in flashback, because of the effect it would have on the show.  But now I've kind of got my head round it and I've realised that if this is to be the last series......it doesn't matter anymore.  And now I'm quite excited about seeing more of this.......it really was glorious!

I've got to mention the 'staking' scene.  I just don't understand how it's possible to make a scene feel that tense when you're laughing at the same time.  Tom fighting with the stake is comedy gold!

I wonder whether the 'he will rise' premise is a dual one. Captain Hatch and Hal. Both rising to whatever level, (independently of each other or because of each other) We shall see.

Finally watched the episode and wow. I have no words. It was brilliant. And I love bad Hal! He's so much more fun... kind of.

@rubyrosettared you're a genius! Now I'm pretty sure 'he will rise' is about Hal.

I have always thought 'He Will Rise' referred to Hal, but resigned myself to being wrong since the arrival of Captain Hatch, Lisa you make me think there is still a possibility.

Interesting Jennster, wonder which Hal will all prefer to watch? For me it is a combination of thrilling and chilling watching bad Hal! fangs

I thought that the 'he will rise' pertained to Captain Hatch originally but watching the final scenes of this week's episode and the expression on Hal's face (and the clip of the blood flask in the 'final series' trailer), i'm wondering whether it has dual meaning.

Maybe Hal will become the Devil at the end, metaphorically speaking.

Damien is obviously an amazing actor and I feel like bad Hal gives him more space to show his skills.

interesting thought, Jennster. Hal is certainly capable of being utterly evil and has the deepest darkest history of all, which give that constant background hum of his capacity.

Agree, the wide spectrum of Hal lends itself to Damien's versatility as an actor. we truly get to see so many characters within one!
