Only hours after she gave birth in its maternity ward, a nameless and seemingly vagrant young woman is found murdered in a stairwell at Whitechapel’s The London Hospital.
The only suggestion of her identity, however, is the strange protrusion at the base of her spine – a vestigial tail. It is a clue which is to take Reid and the team into the shadowy netherworld of the circus freakshows and thence back to The London Hospital to seek help and understanding from its most celebrated resident, Joseph Merrick, aka The Elephant Man.
Merrick certainly has insight to offer but his growing trust and faith in Reid leads him to reveal even more devastating information – information that leads Reid back into the menacing world of his Limehouse colleague Jedediah Shine.
Elsewhere - Chief Inspector Abberline arrives with reinforcements for H-Division in the form of Detective Constable Albert Flight, a young Irishman of great ambition. The death of PC Hobbs still an all too sharp grief for him, Reid fears for the callow youth’s fate on these meanest of streets.
Apart from the hair though...our first introduction to Damien in Ripper Street is such a glorious cliff hanger is it not! No dialogue, simply an expression, left for our imaginations to interpret!
what does it say to you ?

Though - nobody stone me - I'm not liking the hair in this shot. He's got hair that's meant to be wild. Actually prefer him with the hat. Please tell me it's just hat hair. LOL

How many times can I watch a 20 second clip before it becomes socially unacceptable?
Oh god, never before have I wished away Halloween. Monday can't get here soon enough!

I am not hearing a full on irish accent Kat, that could just be me though, but as with all the other characters in ripper street, perhaps Flight's accent will be tailored to Victorian London?
j-b I dunno, maybe here will be strains of cockney layered in there somewhere or some such London influence mixed in with the Irish? Ha, don't want much do we! Lol, a hybrid accent would please everyone and no one at the same time !
And how about his expression with "It's an honour, I shan't let you down" ooh there are layers in that expression...
I am absolutely blown away by how prominent Damien is in the trailers (still no sight of Rose...). And excited.....have I mentioned how excited I am about this?
It's very difficult to identify an accent from such short clips...but I do find it intriguing. He doesn't sound Irish in anything we've heard so far...and, as mentioned ages ago, Albert Flight isn't an obviously Irish name. But he's described as an Irishman in both the character profile, and the ep synopsis......
I am with you on that fifi, it is thrilling that DC Flight is getting such a great introduction, they clearly know his talents will add to the appeal of the drama!
It's that eyebrow flick that get's me!!!! So arrogant.
I love how they've introduced him too, with Reid, Drake and Jackson going "Seriously". I get the feeling this is going to be fun!
I can KINDA hear an accent in monster. But not quite sure. 5 hours!!!
