yes, wikipedia goes on to say the term is attributed to and the practice perfected by the IRA... I just didn't personally know all this.

Wandering off topic....but it makes me smile that everyone gets irritated when Damien's name is misspelled. I wonder if it botheres him....
Well, I don't know if it bothers Damien that his name is (regularly) misspelled, but it bothers me. Give credit where credit is due, and as Domino says, especially if it's media - they should cross their t's and dot their i's. In this day and age a simple 5 second Google check is all it takes. Even posting things here or on twitter, I fact-check myself and try to spell things correctly. It's the polite thing to do.
My married name is Fox (which is such an improvement over my maiden name) Seems simple, right? I still get misspellings - Fax, Foxx, Sox... And my first name? As much as I would LOVE to be, I am not Irish...
So anyway, I just did an online chat with Amazon (US) customer service and let them know his surname is misspelled on the listing for the Raven audiobook... *insert eye roll*
why don't we have an eyeroll emoticon?

The trouble with Damien's name is that the people who print it, either on line or in the papers, have two chances to get it wrong! An "a" in Damien, or an extra "e" in Molony!
I wonder if he has to spell it out each time he tells someone his name, particularly over the phone. I have an unusual surname and we almost always have to spell it out.
"Finally, we recently shot our first feature film, Tiger Raid, through our sister company, Story. This has been a long established dream to create our own stories and content. It's very personal so is an example of DixonBaxi supporting a whole other level of creative expression. Launching late next year, it means we're bang in the middle of making one of our biggest dreams a reality."
It is great to read the passion the director has for the film, in his own words. The company is internationally focussed, this bodes well for the film too.
So, if Tiger Raid releases late next year, it looks like Damien's big screen projects are going to be nicely spread out! (Kill Your Friends is rumoured to release March and The Hr=ard Problem with NT Live 16 April.)
I'm sure I read an article refering to this film as international but I can't find it now. Of course being an international production doesn't necessarily guarantee international distribution - but it does feel like it should make it more likely. I've got my fingers crossed.........we'll just have to be patient (!!) and wait and see.
‘Tiger Raid’ London film company Story committed to shooting a feature-length film based on Donnellan’s play ‘Radio Luxembourg’, after a chance encounter with a producer at the company’s mother. “I was handing out flyers in Dublin for my play ‘Velvet Revolution’ and a lady took one, and went to see it … She said I should talk to her son, who is a film producer in London.” Shot in Jordan, the film – entitled ‘Tiger Raid’ – stars Damien Molony and Brendan Gleeson’s son Brian as two rogue Black Ops for the US army who decide to take an oil Sheikh’s daughter hostage in Iraq. “You get the script, and then it’s turned into a film, and there’s all these cameras, people and big huge army trucks, and then you’re seeing the actors saying the lines from your script. You feel responsible for it. They’re all sweating and working really hard, and in some cases taking huge risks to get the right shot or right angle, ” said Donnellan, his exhilaration evident. Speaking about the actors, Mick said they were all ‘really invested in it’ and that even in 50 degree heat in army costumes, they didn’t complain.
Oh the things actors will go through for our enjoyment. I remember checking and it was actually a smidge cooler in Jordan than here at the time they were filming. Which is to say it was miserable. I spend most the summer hiding inside with A/C blasting. Feel for them fair-skinned Irish lads in full camo having to be out in that. (Though 50 deg C is an exaggeration btw. It was more like 30-32)

Particularly: "“You get the script, and then it’s turned into a film, and there’s all these cameras, people and big huge army trucks, and then you’re seeing the actors saying the lines from your script. Incredible to hear how the film came about.
Great insight into the film and filming.... So as Black ops for the US army.. they will have American accents?
Fantastic insights indeed. I love hearing behind the scenes stories & seeing behind the scenes pictures. Sometimes I wish there were behind the scenes videos of all my favorite TV shows/movies just to see the process, to see the actors as they prep for a scene, getting in and out of character, etc... oh to have been at some of the BH filming. Or Suspects...
Info on the Goldfinch (are they investors or distributors?) website is "The film tells the story of two Irish mercenaries attempting a kidnapping in Iraq."
So I'm assuming - hoping! - they used their native accents.
As for weather, this was what it was like in Amman. Mission X is located just north of there according to their website.
Jordan is apparently a Mediterranean climate like most of California. Where I am, we get up to 38 in the summer routinely (though funny enough I'm only half hour from San Francisco which is super cold in the summer). About 6 hrs away is the Mojave desert (where the space shuttle used to land btw) which can get up to 50 deg C. So I know exactly how "pure shweating" feels! UGH! Absolute misery.
Sorry I seem to have hijacked this thread to babble on about the weather...

Irish mercenaries.....yes - I knew there was some reason that I thought they were Irish! Well done whimsy! And it's the Goldfinch post which I was trying to find before - "it's positioned to connect to broard international audiences"......that suggests an international release doesn't it? Although I think they are investors rather than distributors.....
And don't apologise for talking about the weather - you're such an Anglophile!!
Yes, I had read Irish mercenaries and had assumed the same but was thrown by the most recent interview saying 'US Army' ???
Just as confused (in an excited sort of a way!) about the black comedy / thriller / dark and brooding genre.... and hope those descriptions that have excluded each other do not rule out the possibility of all of those together.
Thanks for that nugget fifi, the film is totally going to be pitched internationally - with the interview before last with Director indicating the same, it sounds really hopeful!
Already had seen mention of that domino. "two rogue Black Ops for the US Army". Maybe I'm misinterpreting it, but once I read "Irish mercenaries" I assumed that even though they worked for the US military, that didn't mean they were American.

Anyone remember that tweet from Damien about the film 'The Rock'? I am now wondering if this was another Tiger Raid clue.. maybe... ....A group of rogue U.S. Force Recon Marines hold civilians hostage on Alcatraz..
Wow, that's a very striking look. And would definitely take a whole bin full of wipes to clean off at the end of the day! It's rather like the Joker in Dark Knight.
After DaMo's makeup tweet for Clean Break yesterday, I was thinking back to that very tweet of the bin full of wipes. Something like these are what I'm thinking of, more on the browns/blacks. And with beardiness, which seems at odds with military code, but whatever...

How much they stray from the play make-up remains be seen, but it could be whimsy! that seems more fitting with the dark comedy idea.. and with Damo's mention of day in the make up chair. Cannot wait to find out.
Just imagining now what the film poster will look like...... EEP!!!!
