Holy Moley, this is fantastic!!!!! You totally set up that picture game to reveal this, didn't you?
Awww, we even get to hear him speak the lines from that previous footage where he's directing. And that last b/w bit at the window is gold! Love, love, love! He looks so young!
I've heard excerpts of Travelling Light, and have the play text, but next time I'm in London (said with slight hope) I want to visit National Theatre Archives and watch the entire play.

Me too Whimsy! When I was in London they had no free time to show me this play but next time I will be more ready and inform much earlier about my myself cause I really would love to see this! :)
Haha! if only I was that organised whimsy! it was just a happy, accidental discovery! (the second video).
My absolute favourite part is the last few seconds of that video (3.30-3.47) the black and white Damien through the window, so funny and frantic! "cut!" and as you say having a soundtrack to the famous red jumper directing moment.
Something something on first, then it looks like he is saying what, something, what is it or is this, stop, cut, stop filming, then the rest of the film is just inaudible
This was my attempt to make it easier to interpret Jozie. I might have to cut it at different parts though, possibly slow it down more?
This is what I see in each clip:
#1 "Wait"
#2 "Stop"
#3 "Cut" "Stop filming"
#4 "something... something... of film"
#5 "something something... waste"

Perhaps "What a waste" or "Piss off you" could be his last sentence.. And the second last "please could you just stop filming" or something like that. We need to crack this code!
I think he says "Piss of you" in the end. And Before that "Please, will you just... film". I like to watch these gifs over and over and over.. Wonderful Whimsy!
THANK YOU! I love the extra bits of information you find. Bless you for your thorough research into Damien's career!
You know, National Theatre does this kind of extra release of information and background for all of their productions, especially the ones that are chosen for NT Live. So, guess what we have to look forward to, eh?

I will go visit NT Archive next February to see this play, might get better pic what's happening in that scene! Hopefully Damiens work in NT would get in Live here too (still no sign if The Hard Problem in our cinemas, and even I go to see that it would be so much easier to enjoy all his work here too, and lure my friends each them too!;)).

You're very welcome TJ It's always a thrill to newly find something from DaMo's past career!
And we're all with you on that.... crossing fingers for lots of goodies from his next National Theatre project, The Hard Problem. 2015, Year Of The DaMo!
Thanks for sharing this, I love backstage info. I did see this, basically as was the only play at the National that day that wasn't sold out and I took a risk... I absolutely loved it, from start to finish, the history, the plot, the staging, and first time I 'found' Damien and thought how good he was.... The other play on the thrust stage had better reveiws, and historical but I much perferred Travelling Light,
Maybe Whimsy will have something to add to this topic after her trip to London. I think a stop at the National Theatre to see the NT Live film of Travelling Light is on her list.

I completely forget about this! It's nice after now you have seen the play this scene makes sense. And I loved how they used so much the old camera scenes in the play, they projected these scenes on the wall during the play, giving them time to sometimes change the set. But this scene was muted and I think Damien was talking over it in the play. So it's up to lipreading to figure out what he says
