Suspects Series 3

Episode 2

 © Channel 5

14 January 2015

10pm - 11 pm

Channel 5

Synopsis

The second investigation concerns a young woman fished out of the Thames in the middle of the night, badly burned and barely alive. The only witnesses at the scene are a few homeless people, who saw a man with a white van dumping her in the river. Hopes of finding the driver are dashed, however, when CCTV reveals that the number plate was deliberately obscured. Charlie runs the victimʼs distinctive necklace through the database and links it to Sian Jenkins, who was registered as missing in 2012. Footage of Sianʼs father Neil at the time shows an angry man who had argued with his daughter on the night she vanished. Jenkins claims to have given up drink and found God, but his claims of charitable acts to the homeless take on a more sinister aspect after Sianʼs mother Grace reveals that she has received messages from her daughter via Lewis, one of Sianʼs friends. A shocking development occurs when DNA taken from under Sianʼs fingernails is matched to Josephine Wilson, an eight year- old who disappeared nine years ago. But what is Josieʼs connection to Sian and where have the girls been all this time?

It looks like episode 3.02 is not a continuation of episode 3.01, so series 3 will be stand alone episodes not 2 parters (like series 2!)

Also, Jonathan Coy? The Jonathan Coy who is also going to be in 'The Hard Problem' with Damien?

That was my first thought when I saw the name Jonathan Coy. It's unusual for actors to have the same name so it could be him.

This sounds like it's going to be another classic Suspects storyline with lots of twists and turns!

Agreed Rosie, and I am increasingly amazed at how the writers keep coming up with that epic twisty turny plot - its pretty masterful, clever...

This all sounds so good.  I mean bad for the victims, but really good edge-of-your-seat-twisty-turny drama.

Suspects just outdid itself. Again.

Tonight's episode had such a harrowing powerful storyline... very emotional, heart still aches. Incredible acting and intelligently crafted. WOW.

Dear God how horrific was this. When Martha brought the little girl out, that was just devastating.

Well this ep was quite disturbing wasn't it?!  I must be a bit slow, because even after they bought out the little girl it still took me a moment to realise that she was Josie's daughter....think I was in denieal!

Must admit I got a bit annoyed by Martha's refusal to accept Jack's theory that the girls had both been imprisoned - that seemed pretty obvious to me even before the vitamin D revelation - especially her 'don't come to me with suggestions before you've got proof' comment.  Don't the police come up with theories and then look for proof to support them.....isn't that how it works?!

But overall - another excellent episode.  And as always the quality of the supporting cast has me absolutely dumbfounded!  I thought that Sophia Capassio was brilliant as Josie!  Am I the only one that was reminded of Davey Jones (in the Pirates of the Carribean) by Neil Jenkins?  There was something about his accent....they way he said the word 'feel'....and the fact that he kept saying 'Jack'....or maybe that's just me!

Can't believe that we're half way through the series already.....they are just too short!

Yes it was.. and possibly the most emotional I have been in an episode of Suspects so far, literally could not stop cryong after I realised what was happening, at about the same time Jack did. The whole episode filled me with a sense of darkness that slowly crept through me .. like ink in water. it is a powerful drama that can cause such extreme physical sensations.. at first i was chilled to the bone then shaking. Honestly overwhelmed by it, found it hard to tweet or post here after.

Agree fifi, all supporting cast were top notch - as were our leads. My breath was quite literally taken away by the combination of storyline and performance.

I was going to comment on that - did anyone else notice that the suspects were calling Jack by his name? this was a first i think?

Rosie - that was the most tragic moment - chilling, emphasised by the fact they were in the dark and how it was shot - the brilliant soundtrack too. It almost feels wrong to comment on it as 'drama' as it was so real.

Pearl - I agree, it was handled very well, and brave.

I'd love to have seen Suspects break the 1M mark in the ratings and it deserves more, but pretty good viewing figures!

here are the figs for eps 1 and 2 via Broadcast Now

Channel 5 aired the second instalment of drama Suspects, which kicked off on Tuesday night. It gripped 750,000 (4.6%), just short of the 773,000 (4.8%) that tuned in for the opener.

Well i thought i'd posted my thoughts in here but it seems as though i hadn't. Oops.

Such a gripping, quality episode and the twists and turns kept me fully engaged with the storyline. My heart broke for Josie, asking to see her dad the way that she did and the emergence of the little girl made it all the more tragic. It was a heart breaking episode.

Really glad to see that the ratings pretty much held over the two nights for Suspects. Looking forward to tonight's episode which i won't be able to watch until much later (Supernatural night...i've waited long enough to see it...)

And whoever at channel five thought that four episodes of this outstanding drama equated a series is sadly mistaken. I would've been okay with six maybe, eight definitely but not four. Too short.
