Father and Son: Eddie Izzard and Damien Molony in new TV drama
Exciting news, Damien has landed a new TV role in HBO drama Pilot 'The Devil You Know'.
He will be appearing alongside a stellar cast headed up by Eddie Izzard, Nadia Alexander and Ismenia Mendes and including Ever Carradine, Julian Rhind Tutt, Matthew James Thomas, Nigel Lindsay, Ewen Bremner, Karen Gillan, Hannah Nordberg, Naian Gonzalez Norvind and Zawe Ashton.
According to Deadline.com the new TV show is a ‘provocative period drama’ exploring a compelling period of American history and set in 17th Century New England.
The story explores the historical and religious context and effects of the Salem Witch Trials on Salem village, focussing on the Putnam family, with Izzard playing the conservative Father Thomas and Damien playing his eldest son, Robert Putnam.
The drama is currently filming in Boston USA, perfect timing for our favourite actor who is on a hiatus during a four-month run of The Hard Problem at the National Theatre.
Damien is no stranger to period drama and portraying characters from another time, having previously played over 500-year-old vampire Hal Yorke in Being Human and Irish Detective Constable Albert Flight in 19th century London in Ripper Street.
Congratulations to Damien on his new role, we’re thrilled and cannot wait to see him resplendent in 17th century costume, with American accent, in what sounds like a compelling drama!

The Devil You Know is created and co-written by Jenji Kohan, Bruce Miller and Tracy Miller, directed by Gus Van Sant and co-produced by HBO and Lionsgate TV.

This is beyond exciting! I've been so impatient to hear about Damien's new projects but this is beyond anything I could have imagined! A period drama for HBO! And a main role! Amazing! Can't wait for this!

Very exciting announcement and to think Damien is filming as we speak!
Here is a little more detailed info on the drama, from Paste Magazine:
"The show, tentatively titled The Devil You Know, will be a period drama exploring the circumstances of the Salem Witch Trials in 17th century New England. This dark period in America’s history pitted townsfolk against one another and sent the town into a religious frenzy. In total, 19 people were hanged, an elderly man was crushed with stones and several people died in jail after being accused of witchcraft. Nearly 200 people were accused overall.
Izzard plays Puritan farmer Thomas Putnam, the deeply conservative patriarch of the Putnam family. He is an important figure in Salem Village, but his time at the top may be short lived if he isn’t careful. Challenges come from all sides and he must be prepared to fight.
Izzard will star alongside Nadia Alexander, who will portray his bright young daughter, Ann Putnam Jr. Ismenia Mendes, fresh out of Juilliard, will portray Mercy Lewis, a captive servant girl who must rely on inner strength to survive.
The series is being co-written by Kohan, Bruce Miller and Tracy Miller and directed by Gus Van Sant. Production on the pilot is set to begin in Boston sometime this spring."
And I guess it could explain his hefty reading material when Jozie saw him on the train
Probably, it was thick paper pile, this explains why he has been so busy! And I'm so very excited about this! There seems to be no end of his new projects which is good news!

I wonder why he unfollowed him tho. Didn't want us to follow that trail?

It's just now sinking in. Holy crap! And it's a subject mater that I'm actually interested in. U.S. history, possibly a bigger U.S. fan base. Oh gosh! Squeeee!!!!
.....Damien filming in the U.S. (my continent, a mere 830 miles from me)

Co-written by Jenji Kohan, directed by Gus Van Sant, and starring Eddie Izzard as his dad, this isn't going to be your typical Salem Witch Trials... I'm so excited. *crossing fingers*

I haven't posted in a while, but I just need to fangirl for a second that he's in BOSTON! That's my second home! I go up at least once a month, but during baseball season I'm regularly up there biweekly for games. How exciting! I'll have to keep an eye out for him. ;)

Nice to see a Damien project not all hush hush for a change! (I'm sure the 2015 Season Premiere is premature, but wouldn't it just be a jam packed Year of the Damo if it were true!)

I'm so glad for him! HBO, big thing and filming in U.S! And the cast, oh the cast! I was suppose to praise these news more yesterday but I was so tired and struggling to type message with my phone.
I agree Whimsy, it's nice that not all his projects are super secret. Year of Damo indeed And yes Pearl, leading role is what he really deserves. It's like Aidan Turner, nobody knows him really until he made appearance in Hobbit. He became world wide success and his latest interview in BBC radio the man told him to tell about himself cause people are wondering where did you come from, and he starts to talk about BH (where it all begun...). I just keep wondering, will the same thing happen to Damien? One day he will be interviewed about his past projects when people are wondering where did you come from, and he can start telling about BH and his first leading role as Hal...
17th century, this means more dashing costumes! Loved his appearance in Ripper Street already, even it is little bit from different era but I can't wait to see the results!
It's so nice to hear about you knightley! Oh look out for him, maybe little journey to Boston perhaps? With camera?
Already linked to the Deadline article Pearl, that's how the news broke! GOod thinking about the interest in Salem. It certainly provides a compelling context for a story.
Haha Jozie, I was thinking yesterday that Year Of The DaMo couldn't become more Molony-esque... but it just did! When we first mentioned YOTD in the New Year though. we did say at that time we only knew about the projects already announced (Suspects Series 3, The Hard Problem) / already filmed (Clean Break, Kill Your Friends, Tiger Raid) and there was plenty of room for more!
Kildare actor Damien Molony is to star opposite Eddie Izzard, Ever Carradine, Karen Gillan and Ewen Bremner in the pilot episode of a planned new HBO series with the working title The Devil You Know.
