An interview!! Interviews seem to have become so rare that it's a lovely thing to see.....let alone a red carpet interview. Thanks domino! Can't get any better confirmation that he's filming for Suspects......but what's with the continued "comedy for E4"? Why couln't he have just added 'called Crashing'?!!
Watching Downtown Abbey and in bed by 10. Oh Damien I love your interviews! Except for not telling us the name of the comedy.
It HAS to be Crashing. And it would seem the cast of that still have a gag order in place.
He didn't mention waiting for the HBO pilot to be picked up either.
I'm expecting a play announced by end of year...

Couldn't help but wonder what brand of chewing gum he uses . . .
I was thinking the same haha
This day just keeps getting better and better, lots of DaMo treats for today, I could get used to this! fifi said it best, these interviews are so rare that you just love to see them, I was all smiles when I watched this!
This interview sure made my day! it is a standout for me from all Damien interviews! We've said it before but it def needs saying again, our fave actor does give good interview.
While watching I was struck (again) by how special a moment this is to see Damien on the red carpet at his first feature film premiere. He looks so buzzed to be there, I hope he feels that too! It must be an extra cool thing for a huge film fan to be on his own red carpet!
Yes it is great to have confirmation of both Suspects filming again, and his E4 comedy project.... I'm sure it won't be long before we're hearing about both.. exciting!
Damien does very successfully balance his work between tv, stage and now film. I can think of lots of actors who do two of those things but less who do all three!
HYG: Congratulations on the movie, it's a very dark movie, what' s it like doing something like this and something that also includes humour as well?
DM: The humour was what attracted me to the project in the first place, obviously John's work is so funny, and what I think is so great about this screenplay is he managed to bottle everything that is so great about the book into this, I think, very, very funny film. Obviously there are dark moments - thank god for my character I didn't have to get too involved in any of the dark stuff - but it was a huge amount of fun to film, I got to work with great actors, I got to work with Owen the director, we had a lot of fun shooting it.
HYG: Obviously a great insight into the music industry , how close to reality do you think it is?
DM: I don't know, I'm not the right person to ask that kind of question, I've no idea what happens in the music industry. You'd have to ask John Niven that question!
HYG: What about the entertainment industry as a wider thing then, are there any parallels?
DM: No, I don't know, as an actor I'm kind of in bed by ten o'clock, watching Downton Abbey at 9 o'clock on a Sunday evening, I'm not kind of getting involved in any of the party side of things
HYG: How much fun was it to make this movie?
DM: It was so much fun.. the first day on set I was crawling around a basement of Nic Hoult's house in the film, hung over, naked people everywhere, basically just having found out that someone else has become the head of A & R. It was so much fun to film that kind of stuff, you do these crazy.. one time you're in a gig with four thousand people screaming at the stage and another you're in a board room. It was such, such fun to film
HYG: [on Nic Hoult] how do you find his performances? because it is difficult to play someone who is not just an anti-hero but an outright villain
DM: Massively! And I think what is so great about his performance and Owens's interpretation of the film is that you're rooting for Stelfox all the time, obviously he is doing these dreadful, dreadful things to people and ruining people's lives, and obviously killing people, and I think that's down to Nic's own charm and his smoothness and his very clean cut look, that you never expect something like this from this guy, who is so wonderful.
HYG: Can I ask what you've got coming up next?
DM: I've just wrapped a new comedy for E4 and I'm in the middle of shooting a new series of Suspects for Channel 5. So yeah a lot of fun.
HYG: How do you find blending TV and film? Is that something you want to carry on doing?
DM: Absolutely, and to get some stage in there as well, I love doing a bit of theatre as well. It's nice to be able to balance all three at the same time which is luckily what I am managing to do at the moment.
I'd love to see him on the stage again, he has great stage presence -I've seen some famous actors with nil. As long as he comes up my way again, as with 'Travelling Light'.
Re Kill Your Friends, I found it interesting:that Damien was relieved his character did not have to get involved in any of the really dark stuff.. wonder if that means he would rule out that kind of role? I think if I was an actor I would have a line i couldn't go over, but I am not sure where my line would be!
I found that interesting too, but considering he played a vampire, I'm not sure what aspect he's considering dark. The killings?

Yeah, it was not any judgement on my part, it just provoked a thought about role choices actors make and if I was actor if there would be any roles I would turn down. I mean as an actor it is good to be out of your comfort zone and to flex your range muscles and Damien's role choices have never shied away from challenging stuff! Hal but also thinking of IYDLUDWWLYS, there was a fairly obnoxious character in that.
For me I could probably not play an abusive character for two reasons, firstly because it'd feel to disingenuous to my beliefs but also becuase it would probably tear me apart emotionally during and after, and not be able to leave it behind. But I am not an actor and I am not speaking for anyone else.
Hal was dark yes but in KYF Damo was referring to Stelfox whose inner and outer debauchery is portrayed and acted out.. and his views and prejudices are so hideous..I've no doubt Damien could play that role extremely well though...
Hi Aradia, if there is a story behind that then it is Damien's to tell. But please feel free to come back and join in with the disucssion on the interview
I found the gum chewing a little off-putting tbh! But excited to hear Damien talking about balancing stage, TV and film. I love seeing Damien on stage because it's so immediate and you get to see Damo in real life so I'm glad it sounds like he's planning to do more theatre.
Not forgetting Damien's ever growing radio and (audio) career! His versatility is impressive and his conscious decision to remain so is inspiring.
It has just struck me that the gig with 4,000 people must have been the scene filmed at the Electric Ballroom in Camden?
Me too Ellie and these were worth waiting until nearly the end of the year for! What I love about interviews from Damien is hearing just his own thoughts and feelings on his work. It's like a behind the scenes of a special kind.
It must be a bit crazy for the actors to be talking about this project now, long after they made it..
I love the dimples, and his natural voice too. He's charming and likeable. I hope he had a great time at the premiere. I like that he's a homebody rather than a party animal. Grounded and sensible. I lot of lovely character traits.

He'd have told me to join him, and I would. - still true!
It's nice to hear Damien's actual voice because as he is the man of a thousand voices you forget which one is his real one! And who doesn't adore his dimples?!
