'Making Rosebud' Short Film
Permalink

Watch Damien ( "soon to be the world's own Harrison Ford" ) in the short film 'Making Rosebud' made by Jonathan Reid-Edwards while Damien was at Drama Centre London.

With talent of this calibre, it is easy to see why Damien was snapped up for his future roles!

Making Rosebud from Jonathan Reid-Edwards on Vimeo.

Filmed in the first year at Drama Centre London as part of Dylan Stones Visual Awareness class. Was meant to be two minutes long, but I got carried away that Drama Centre was actually letting us create and direct something for once. This entire thing was shot in one day, cut the next.

Starring my own personal Harrison Ford, soon to be the worlds own Harrison Ford, Damien Molony, and of course the superlative Natalie Thomas and three-time oscar winner Ron Edwards.

Shot on something very old and by Sony. Sound by the much better Hanna Maria Heidrich.

Music by Alberto Iglesias and Gustavo Santaolalla. Id also like to note that this was made a whole two years before I saw Babel, so the music use is entirely coincidental. Much to my chagrin.

JR (early 2011)

Lol ! beardy Damien works for me! It is a real treat to watch him in this short film isn't it HalGal, my word he is an excellent actor. I could definitely see him playing the artistic type, and in the broadest sense....for some reason I have a simultaneous image of Van Gogh, Heathclife and Hamlet! anything tormented and angsty.. in a blousy shirt!

It was nice to hear his natural accent and you're right about the ability to grow hair, he certainly can!

My only complaint is that it wasn't nearly long enough, i wanted to know more!

isnt that always the way Lisa! or do you mean with this particular story? there was much left unsaid, which I really like, and much ambiguity, it want all neatly tied up and presented on a plate, for a short film i like this, it was not patronizing to the audience in that way. But yes...as far as Damien performing is concerned ...always.... MORE! action

I have watched it but with the sound a bit down, because my earphones are broken so the sound goes through my laptop's speakers and I'm embarrassed to watch it when everyone can hear, so I haven't heard much of what they said :p

But omg, Damien looks so look with long hair and a beard! thud The clothes suit him very well too, and I love that he uses his natural accent. I'll watch it again when I can turn the sound up a bit louder and then I'll actually comment on the film itself :p

Hope you get to hear it with sound soon Lau, as Lisa points out it is Damien's own accent, unlike his other work.

Really like the soundtrack too - interesting to note sound is by Hanna Maria Heidrich, co-director of other Damien film short When The Hurlyburly's Done

On a completely shallow note: how I love Billy's green swoosh Nike high tops!

Yes I noticed the Nikes too! That is totally not anything Damien would wear in real life, but they do look good on him!

On another shallow note: notice the ripped jeans & muscular thigh

As its a student film I can't help but think that clothes are in fact artists own. He didn't bother to remove his ring so I'm going to guess the clothes are his.

I agree with Becca, I would imagine they are not costumes per se! Damien has shown himself to be quite the quality fashionista, with model potential and they are humdinger Nikes! either way I love them.

Didn't notice the muscular thigh and ripped jeans at all Becca!

On a more film related note: Damien is so leading man material, everything i have ever seen him in he has the most presence! action

This is a great sample of Damien's potential. I can't help wondering if he only shaves when a role requires it, which is okay with me!

The beardage is somehow impressive here isn't it TJ? Certain comments Damien has made on Twitter indicate he enjoys not shaving occasionally. Tis a useful tool for an actor to have a very easy way to adapt the look of a character ! Hal must have become adept at shaving without a mirror or reflection, I cannot imagine him with a beard...just not neat enough!

Ah...thanks for bumping this up Glofigs - it's an age since I last watched it!  It's amazing to think the whole thing was shot in one day...especially considering they went on a train journey!

It's made me think about when I first saw s4 of being human, and went looking online to find out what else Damien had done.  At first all I could find was that he'd been in 'Tis a Pity'....and then I found this and 'Hurly Burly', here on the forum!  It's amazing to think that was only 18 months ago - and now there is so much Molony goodness to watch (and listen to)....and there is more already in the pipeline!  Not that it's any surprise to me!!

I love this gem.  It's beautiful in it's simplicity, and it relies so much on Damien's ability to create a character....it is so focused on him.

That is a neat one line review of the film fifi!

agree... it is a beautiful snapshot of a moment in William's life... and there is a subtle but powerful emotion to it...that leaves a resonance.. and enough ambiguity to leave us wondering about it all...

Lol!  As reviews go mine was rather biased and lacking in objectivity.....I might as well have said 'I like Damien and he's in this a lot'!

Let's just pretend I said everything that you've just said!

Let's just put it all together:

It's beautiful in it's simplicity, and it relies so much on Damien's ability to create a character....it is so focused on him. it is a beautiful snapshot of a moment in William's life... and there is a subtle but powerful emotion to it...that leaves a resonance.. and enough ambiguity to leave us wondering about it all...
i.e. I like Damien and he's in this a lot

best. review. ever.
