I thought I would share this here though maybe it would be more appropriate on a Being Human blog since you can't see Damien's face, but this is my first attempt at a 3D gif.
After spending half a day on this I have an even greater appreciation for 3d giffers. This is a massive pain in the you know what. It's a bit sloppy but I'm sure I'll improve with practice. I think I might try Lady Mary stake scene next.

How you do it:

Quick tutorial:
You make the bars one layer and copy it between frames. Make the first frame layer and the bar layer visible to superimpose the bar layer, lower the opacity of the bar layer so you can see what you are doing, and then erase the appropriate part of the bar(s). Then you raise the opacity of the bar layer back to 100% and merge the two layers together. Do that with each successive frame. It's incredibly tedious.

wow! that's genius Jane! love love love it and can well appreciate the time it took to create! (Damien is in it, so it is definitely appropriate to post it here, thank you!)
I wish I could take credit for the genius of it. I've seen them on tubmlr for a while now and have really wanted to try my hand at it, but couldn't find the patience to sit down and figure it out. It isn't all that complicated but I don't have much experience with using Photoshop/GIMP. I have to look up how do to everything and it involves a lot of trial and error. Photoshop and GIMP are not intuitive for me.
Now that I have figured it out though there's no stopping me now.
