ooh..that's a deep GIF Jane, moving too, I like it... what a pivotal moment for Hal
thank you for sharing and awesome you made it yourself! please feel free to post more
I want to make gifs badly but my problem is how to capture the video/screencaps. After that, putting it together is tedious, but I know how to do it.
I made one for especially for TJ, from Hal blowing the dominos - I cut the dominos out so it's just Hal's perfect lips blowing. What's the best way to attach/share the gif here? I have it on my tumblr.

In honor of the weekend here is mini gif set of sorts:
I also made an extra one. It's from the same episode, but has nothing to do with the above scene. I just love the way he looks in it. So, here you go...
Apologies for the shoddy quality. The video wasn't HD so I had to play around a bit to make them look somewhat decent. Anyway, HAPPY WEEKEND to all.
I'm sure a lot of people use Photoshop. I don't have Photoshop and from what I know about it, that does seem a rather tedious way to make them.
I use a combination of freeware to make them. I use DVD Windows Movie Maker to snip the video down to a manageable size. Then I turn the snipet of video into screencaps by using a JPG creator from the DVDVideoSoft suite (it will make every frame into a JPG). After that I crop the images using InfraView. Then I use PhotoScape to put text on my JPGs and put them together in a GIF. It's all pretty easy really. Though it is a bit tedious. Nowhere near tedium levels of Photoshop though. Trust me, I don't have the patience for that. I figured out how to make the 3D GIFs with GIMP but I don't think I'll ever take the time to actually do it.
InfranView and PhotoScape both allow batch editing so they'll do a bunch of frames at one time. There may be better ways. I haven't had any help with figuring out the process. I just did a bunch of research online one weekend.

Hermyownee, I haven't done a lot of color changing (though I did desaturate one GIF set because Tumblr was being a pain) but I know you can apply filters using the batch editing in both PhotoScape and IrfanView. If you aren't using PhotoScape you should give it a try. It's free and safe and easy to download using cnet.

Phew! I forgot what a process making gifs is... Anyway. These aren't fabulous, but thought I'd share these with you all...
These scenes, really the entire episode, was like an ovary explosion. Hope you like these! I most likely will be making more...especially when Ripper Street comes on again. I want to gif the hell out of Det. Flight. WEE.

It was difficult to watch this kind of thing whilst I was away, but this...just this.
In honor of the weekend here is mini gif set of sorts:

incredible GIFs they are all powerful little morsels of Damienness / Halness. hermyownee all of those are fave moments for me.
Jane, that would be a treat, thank you, looking forward to it!
Whimsy, when i have made GIFs in the past it has been with a gif maker. (what programmes/generators do you all use?) You can post GIFs to the forum in the same way as you post and image, load it to your photobucket and post it here. GIFs have teh .gif extension instead of .jpg for an image, but you just copy the photobucket codes as you would with an image. hope that helps!
One thing I'd like to figure out is how to sharpen the image. I made that updated GIF from the DVD so I feel like it should be sharper. I tried using the batch editor on InfraView but that only made it worse. **tisk** Probably I need to choose a higher quality file output in Widows Movie Maker but then that will make the file size higher and I would have to cut my GIFs down to 30 or 40 frames. Most of mine are between 50 and 75 frames.

Whimsyfox, you can use a JPG creator from here to get your screencaps. http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/ I suggest you download the whole suite of programs. They are safe and I'm constantly finding uses for them.

whimsy: Do you use photoshop or GIMP? I think they are pretty much on the same style if memory serves. I had to take a technology course and we used GIMP for most of our graphics. I typically find my videos via YouTube and save them using keepvid.com. Then I import it into photoshop. If you need any help, let me know. I can screencap functions and guide you through.
Kat: THANK YOU! I absolutely love looking at him, errrrr, making these! The jaw thing is incredibly sexy.
domino: Thank you!! That scene with Crumb...it gets me all of the time. He's too good, such a very powerful performer. I adore him for that.
Jane: It is tedious via Photoshop...it's terrible, but the only way I know how to do them. I need to get my toes wet, so to speak, with other programs. Pardon my ignorance, but can you change colors, add textures, and the like with the programs you use?
oh my .... that sounds mightily complicated, i have only ever used an online clip cutter and gif generator that does all the hard work for you! thank goodness we have you both Jane and hermyownee, I cannot tell you how pleased i am that you are sharing your own gifs on the forum, thank you
I'm still not completely happy with this one. I may update in in the next week or two if I can figure out how to get a better quality picture. I'm not exactly a genius at this sort of thing. Trial and error.

I use photoshop to do any photo work & the couple of gifs I've tried in the past. I just tried gimp to do my Hal Homage and was unsuccessful at what I was attempting to do. I will have to check out all these suggestions.
