Damien Molony has been nominated for the prestigious Ian Charleson Awards for his performance in 'Tis Pity She's A Whore.

Damien appeared in ‘Tis Pity In May 2011 at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, receiving positive reviews for his intense and engaging performance as angst ridden Giovanni in John Ford’s play, possibly one for the most controversial in english literature.

The Ian Charleson Awards began in 1991 in memory of the actor who put in an incredible final performance as the National's Hamlet before he passed in 1990.

The award honours the best performances in British classical theatre by young actors under the age of 30.

Needless to say we are delighted for Damien on his nomination, congratulations from all your fans!

( with huge thanks to Michael Brennan at The Times for providing me with the article )

I was going to update Damien's wikipedia page with this news, but I've never edited wikipedia before, AND I don't know how to link source, AND I was afraid I accidentally mess something up!

Yes Damien's wiki page and Imdb page are in need of quite alot of updating!

The Ian Charelson Awards wiki entry is also incredibly out of date.

I did a post on the 2012 Ian Charleson Awards top 3 including Damien, if anyone is interested in sharing the good news, please feel free to link to it or circulate that also goes for anything on our 'mothership' fansite damienmolony.org

The Sunday Times / National Theatre Award is for his 2011 role as Giovanni in John Ford Play ‘Tis Pity Shes a Whore and was announced after the ceremony at The National Theatre this afternoon.

Cush Jumbo won 1st prize for her Rosalind in Shakespeare’s As You Like it

Congratulations to Damien on this well deserved award, second out of 15 nominations is not too shabby!

There was a small piece in the Central Saint Martins blog on Damien's Ian Charleson award today:

http://blogs.csm.arts.ac.uk/snapshot/2012/05/31/2012-charleson-awards/

Central Saint Martins Snapshot blog

Drama Centre London graduates Damien Molony and Jodie McNee win prizes at the 2012 Ian Charleson Awards

There was a strong presence from Drama Centre London graduates at this year’s Sunday Times Ian Charleson Awards.

The prize rewards the best performance in a classical play by an actor under 30 and is considered the most prestigious theatre award available for young actors in this country. This year Damien Molony, who graduated last July from Drama Centre’s BA Acting with a First Class degree, won Second Prize for his Giovanni in “‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore” at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. In the 10 months or so since graduation Damien also undertook a leading role in the latest series of “Being Human” and is currently at the National Theatre in “Travelling Light”.

Jodie McNee, who graduated in 2005, also with a First, and has already established a considerable roster of leading roles, came third in the Charleson Award for her Masha in “The Seagull” at the Arcola Theatre in London.

This is from where Damien studied? Good for him getting a first class degree and winning such an important award for young theatre actors, this early on in his career!!!

Yes HalGal, his degree and acting credits are very impressive. Damien was not long graduated before 'Tis Pity how lucky are we are that his talent was spotted for Being Human! I wonder if he will receive a nom for Travelling Light next year?

I hope he does. The Evening Standard does the Olivier Awards in January. I'll be keeping a look out of the nominations for that!
He's certainly been getting a lot of attention. According to Tumblr, there were quite a few "celeb" actors who were at the last shows on Saturday (like Mark Gattis & Christopher Eccleston) so he's certainly getting peer recognition.
