We just got back from seeing The Desolation of Khan...um...I mean Smaug.  I thought it was much better than the first one, which I thought was overly silly and kind of dull.

Cumberbatch did an excellent job and Smaug though I kind of got the feeling a few times that Smaug had swallowed Khan.  Martin Freeman was excellent as Bilbo again.  It was good to so Aidan Turner have a bit more to do in this one too.

Like Jane before me, I saw hobbit 2 last night.

Let me just get this out of the way, lee lace has the most sexiest voice in this and I loved him and his character.

Ok now that that is out of the way

I thought this movie was great! A little long but great nevertheless. With the exception of the long ass spider scene. Even though I knew it going in, I had to look at my water bottle the whole time during that scene. Martin freeman was great! As always. Smaug was scary. Man cumberbatch's voice can be so scary and creepy. I did like that michell had more to do in this one. That little love thing was random. Needed more mirkwood scenes though.

Random thought: I find it interesting that Aiden played an Irish vamp because he is Irish but in this doesn't use his own accent (I don't think) in being human season 4 and 5 Damien is Irish but doesn't use his own accent as hal.

Also I totally missed the Stephen Colbert/Peter Jackson cameos.

Peter's cameo is right at the very beginning of the film, i was amazed that i saw it myself!

Aidan doesn't use his own accent in The Hobbit, it's more of a northern/Yorkshire based one, i think because Richard Armitage is from the area and given Thorin, Fili and Kili are Uncle and nephews, it made sense to keep their accents the same and the decision to make Hal non Irish even though Damien is, was a deliberate one because there'd be far too many comparisons to Mitchell and Being Human having another Irish vampire.

gotcha. Thanks for the explanation ruby :)

while i am on this thread, i saw saving Mr. Banks last night. I was surprised at how many teens were in the theater. the movie itself was devine. so good. sweet, sad at moments, i did almost cry at the end, and charming. tremendous performances from emma thompson, colin farrell and tom hanks. I wouldn't be surprised if any if not all get an oscar nom.

Ryan Gosling / Nicolas Winding Refn's 'Drive' is on the BBC iplayer right now, just in case you haven't seen it.

Saw Cuban Fury last night. If you want to see a very fine cast wasted in a run of the mill movie, then this is for you. Olivia Coleman proves to have some fine moves, but there's little to laugh at in this mediocre movie.

Sounds very similar to winters tale. Great cast! Blizzare and mediocre story.

I was looking forward to seeing The Monuments Men. I was disappointed. An interesting story told in a very bitty fashion, preventing the film from really amounting to anything. The opening scenes showing monks disassembling the Ghent altar in the dead of night to hide it before the Nazis could grab it, and locals putting their lives at risk during a bombing raid to shore up the supporting walls to The Last Supper set the theme beautifully which the rest of the film fails to follow up on. Cate Blanchett is the only one with any meat to get her teeth into but Bob Balaban makes the most of his part. And the tone is reminiscent of the comedy army films of the '60s which just seemed odd. I'm sure there's a Burt Lancaster film about the same subject. Anyone know what I'm on about?

Finally got around to seeing 12 Years A Slave yesterday. It was a great film. Very worthy of all the awards it won. That being said, it ripped my heart out and I think I can safely say it is one I will never watch again. I cried so much while watching it.

Me too JozieMozie! 'Gravity' is an epic achievement of modern film making and techniques, it blew me away on that level but it was more of an experience than something I enjoyed neccesarily! I had to actually look away becuase I was having vertigo to the extreme with all the spinning!

Knightley I am yet to see 12 Year A Slave, your reaction seems to be the norm for all who have seen it. Sounds like it is a very affecting film, one that stays with you for a long time, one of those epic (in the true sense of the word) eternal film, a once in a lifetime one to watch. On my list, just need to be in the right frame of mind.

I too saw "12 years a slave" the other day. I couldn’t see it before now because the film only recently premiered here in Denmark. It is SO annoying when new movies sometimes premiere weeks later, it makes you feel so small and insignificant! Anyway I thought the movie was really good! I was very much entertained throughout the whole thing, but I must say it is not for the faint-hearted. So many cruel things happen!

That was my issue with it Domino. I needed to see it at the right time. There were a number of times where I had planned to see it in theaters (it was in theaters here from the time it premiered in the fall until the week before the Oscars), but when the day came I just didn't feel up to it cuz I knew it would be a hard one to watch. I'm glad I waited until it was on DVD and I could watch it at home.

I just saw the new 300 movie this weekend! There wasn't really a plot, but it was a very entertaining movie! Mindless, kickass entertainment lol. And idk if any of you are fans of Skins, but Cook from the second generation is in it and WOW! I hardly recognized him! He was ripped in this movie!

I'm in the same boat with 12 Years. I feel I need to be in the right mood, and maybe have time to catch a comedy afterwards.

Went to see The Grand Budapest Hotel. Wouldn't have been my choice but I'm glad I saw it. It's delightful and funny and all very charming. It's pseudo European, olde worlde, with modern touches, and it's all done very deftly. Ralph Fiennes balances the two perfectly in a light and funny performance. Good stuff.

I had a voucher that needed using, The Lego Movie was starting at a convenient time so that's what I ended up seeing.

Formulaic structure but inventive use of Lego! Fast and furious for the most part and cute and funny. Good fun.

Don't worry, I'm fine. I stopped immediately after the 18sec. I was just too curious. So my own fault biggrin

But flashing warning signs would be really helpful! winkwink (just kidding)

I have seen many scary movies but this short film is scariest thing I have seen, but if you watch it without a sound and lights on its not so scary:) I like scary movies, (even sometimes I can't sleep after watching them). Liked that movie "fourth kind", it was more interesting than scary.
