After what feels like a lengthy silence, i have the first chapter of a new fic up at fanfiction.net. This is the fic that i've battled with on and off over the last several weeks, the same one i abandoned for a short while. Well the brief hiatus worked and a reworked first chapter is posted. It goes by the name of 'Numb' and it deals with a degenerate Hal who needs taking into hand. And who has been awarded that task...well have a read....
So glad you got there in the end Lisa, I know you struggled with this one. You fics are always f such a quality that you can feel the energy and intent that went into them, I for one appreciate your hard work and bringing it to us as a final product this way, for us to share in and get lost in. What fascinating angle to come in on...Wyndam was definitely an incredibly intriguing and potent character. There is a tone here, a darkness that is very compelling. I particularly love your italicized part in this one...powerful and close to my own vision Hal's inner world (not in content more the style if you know what i mean). I am left now really wanting to see where this goes.....this dynamic between Hal and Wyndam is going to be all kinds of shades.. I can feel it. wonderful work, thanks again!
Another very compelling chapter Lisa, you have this way of getting right inside the character, you pitch Snow and Wyndam perfectly and make the final result look so natural that it would be easy to forget how much effort and dedication and power from your brainbox to arrive at it...it's so seamless. We know nothing about this part of Hal's vampire life, it feels like delicious unexplored territory and I am all atingle as I read your take on this part of his journey. I feel invested so I truly hope you feel given to continue. Thank you for sharing as always..
Thank you for sharing Lisa, as always I am completely gripped by your fanfic and find myself wanting more... immediately! no pressure
Interesting, a thought occurred to me last night while twittering that Hal must have an arch enemy, his Moriarty. Whether that be externalised as an actual enemy figure or the monster within.....? or immortality? it makes for interesting Halosophy.
I can't wait to read about your theories. His reaction in the bath....I have thought about why Hal is always so volatile, he's so polarized between almost terror/panic or cold/violent. The poor man is wracked by nightmares, and I don't think it's all about the atrocities he's committed and his fear of reverting. I have my suspicions about the "demon that he's running away from" that Fergus mentions.....but I don't want to talk about it here if it's not the appropriate place.

Love it, as always ! Damien on the radio and a new chapter in a womerful fanfic. Today is a great day
Thank you for sharing Lisa, This one gives me a great mid's eye visual of the historical period..the costume, the customs.. the interaction between Hal and Mary is wonderfully described.
The weight of Hal's inner heaviness is felt throughout, nightmarish almost, giving this fanfic the same compelling flavour that all of yours have, it is incredibly spellbinding!
Ooh I like the direction this is taking Lisa - interesting storyline that Hal would gain his etiquette through training, we know his origins so that is believable...and yet he seems so cultured in present day! Wyndam did a good job! You always have the dialogue so spot on, I can well imagine both the characters (and actors who portray them) having these lines.
Thank you for sharing your hard work again, you make it look effortless but I am aware of the dedication, time and energy to keep bringing us this magic .and it is truly appreciated!
Well i posted up chapter six pretty much at the same time the Hal meets Lady Catherine clip went online so it got killed in the crush (and which i didn't mind to be honest, was such a treat to see!)
Anyhow, i also realised that in the excitement i forgot to share the link here as usual...
oh my, Lisa, I just read your two latest chapters - I am almost lost for words, what amazing juicy plot elements and characterization - and you have a very dark tone this time.. horror horror!! which is utterly gripping... I wont spoil it for those who have yet to read it, but Hal's situation at the end is very imaginable and allows that paradoxical thing where you sympathize with Hal as a victim of not only his condition but doubly so....
I like the way you divide the piece up, I have visions of little cameo pieces as I read. this was a very visual couple of chapters for me, beautiful descriptive language. (too much to give examples without spoilering it). I also had flashes of Wyndham as John Baccus
Wonderful stuff, there is nothing lightweight about this, a high quality read, thank you!
I can feel you are in the flow of this so await the next chapter
Ha!...the story is quietly ticking along. I'd foreseen long silences with this one as it's the longest multi- chapter Hal fic i've ever written (my Mitchell ones went well over a dozen, sometimes twice over that) so i'm happy with that. I've finally found a story that I want to tell about him.
Chapter Nine is up at the usual place, I had to split it because it was originally twice the length and i thought close to six thousand words for one chapter was a bit too long ,even by my standards.
The stage is set for what is about to unfurl #dramaticmusic Hope that you like it :)
God--i love this Lisa. Do you find yourself inspired in new directions by the new series? or did you have a plot and character arcs outlined when you began? I ask because when i used to write it was literally here and now and the journey would unfold direct from the pen.
Not really inspired by series 5, the majority of this fic has been planned and plotted since before Christmas. I started writing it back in October. My last Mitchell fic 'Fine Again' took me six months to write and this one may be the same.
A couple of the characters were only meant to be minor, mentioned once in a chapter characters and they were Maria and James. The current storyline unfolding with Hal and Mary and the poison was only supposed to be one or two chapters long but they took on a life of their own. This has happened to me before, the character of Jessie from Fine Again was supposed to be a character who is mentioned very briefly in another fic, the prequel 'Sugar and Cyanide' and she became a main character for 'Fine Again' and a love interest for my interpretation of Cutler (not the official version, a softer version, an Old One too!) so sometimes i will have the main frame worked out but i can alter it subtly as i go along.
I posted up chapter ten at fanfiction.net. I hope that you like it. Technically it's chapter nine part two as i intended it to be all one chapter but it was far too long at over 6k words.
