Finally had time to sit and read through your recent chapters Lisa, another gripping story that always leaves me wanting more..More! Interesting to hear you have your own Being human world and characters, mapped and overlapping, impressive and appreciated!
Your stories.. and those of other fan ficers.. give me faith that there will be new and exciting journeys to share after our beloved BH is over, for the final time *sniff*.
ooh! say no more Lisa! A you can see it is one of my nsomniac nights so this is perfect.
By the way folks... to all the others reading this topic, do feel free to add your comments here and / or fanfiction.net in response to lisa's fan fics!
Ruby - I know I left you a brief review on the fanfic site, but I really feel the need to expand a bit on my love for this story! Your rendition of Hal as a young vampire is just glorious....so utterly convincing - he is a fantastic combination of that confident arrogance and hauntedness (?!) that we've seen in him 500 years later, but without the vampire guilt. He sounds just like 'our' hal, but with a helping of immaturity. I would so like to see this hal on my screen! I love your development of Wyndam as a character - I especially liked his relationship with Mr Snow - and, for me, Maria is turning into the character which the series should have had.
I'm really enjoying the senario of vampires 'living' their everyday 'lives', who are comfortable with who they are and what they do, dealing with politics and relationships; it's in their nature to enjoy a bit of hedonism, but most of the time they are just doing what they do to survive. At the same time the story itself is intriguing and compelling.......set in hal's past as a journey back still further into his previous life, with tantalising glimpses of what that held. If I had this in a book I probably would've read it from cover to cover without stopping! I'm torn between desperately wanting to know what happens, and not wanting it to end!
And I love your writing style. There is a lot of dialogue (that's not a critism btw!) but your descriptive passages are spot on. You create images and set scenes without being too exact and intrusive and allowing my imagination to fill in it's own details.....it all plays out quite vividly in my mind.
fifi...that's probably one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me about one of my fics. I'm sitting here all blush-y and humbled. Thank you!. The fic isn't getting many reviews at the site, the fandom has quietened down (possibly for good seeing as the show is over) and there seems to be a renewed interest in Mitchell fics there at the moment too (which is not a bad thing, i like both Mitchell and Hal)
My sister helps me out with the fic. She doesn't write herself (though she should, she's good!) but she's a vampire fan and has been since she was my daughter's age. She was the one who introduced me to Being Human, she's my beta and my muse. She keeps me on the level and isn't afraid to tell me if certain scenarios don't work or veer close to sentimentality. I don't think i'd get half of what i've written done if it wasn't for her (and she knows it! ;) )
I have about half of chapter sixteen written. I've hit a bit of a brick wall with it, which isn't unusual as i tend to go a bit quiet writing wise once i've submitted a new chapter. I need to think about the 'mischief' that i've hinted at. It will all come together. Then i have plans for England. I have to think about how i'm going to do it because i did have a way planned and then it all changed and i have to rethink it.
PradaKat, i also wanted to thank you too, glad you're reading and liking it thus far.
Part of me keeps waiting for the other shoe to drop y'know...i didn't have much success when writing in other fandoms but i've had such a lot of support and encouragement in this one that the slightly more paranoid part of me waits for that other shoe to drop...
thank you for posting the link Lisa, it was a deliciously naughty chapter.. there is something liberating in reading the giddy bliss of evil unleashed! Interesting to see Wyndam as a figure higher up the vampire heirarchy than Hal, indulging his bloodlust..and teaching Hal how to trace the vein in the inner thigh, nice nod to series 5. The 3 characters playing the glamorous game, creating the trap, compelling storytelling.
I really look forward to reading your completed fic one day, all in one go!
Chapter Eighteen is live. And as i've said in the author notes, Hal is heading towards a crisis point. This chapter is very Hal-centric and it may (or may not) shock. (I'm halfway through chapter nineteen at the moment and Hal is currently being really, really bad. *zips lips*) Anyway, i hope you enjoy chapter eighteen, be sure to let me know what you think
