During his Lord Hal days, he'd have visited dear little orphans, bringing them presents and promises of love and security ... Then he'd have eaten them.
And he'd have invited a homeless man into his home, to share the holiday season with. He'd have told a sad story about how he lost his entire family, and how he's been in the pit of despair, but now, he wants to connect with people again, and share his own good fortune with those who have none. Then he'd have eaten him.
Nowadays, Hal makes sure he keeps well away from homeless people and orphans (they're soooo tempting) and should a cute little bundle of carol singers come near him, he runs at them, screaming, waving his arms as if scattering geese, shouting, "Get away! Get Away! Run for your lives!" This behaviour causes both concern and embarrassment for Tom and Alex. They can only imagine what lies beneath it, wonder if they should press for details, but they do know they'll have to make something up to tell the neighbours.

The vision that popped into my head was evil Santa Hal sliding down chimneys with his black eyes and bared fangs... maybe even a Santa hat - a red one - and eating everyone.

I think you're right, HalGal, he'd love to get presents ... He might be suspicious at first, if he doesn't know where they came from ... There's a small chance Tom might think/wish Santa's real.
Christmas shopping could be quite a chore for Hal. He'll have the exquisite taste but the crowds and insanity might prove too much for him.
