Thank you so much to fifi for her exellent theatre review of 'If You Don't Let Us Dream, We Won't Let You Sleep' which I have just had the honour of publishing on the fan site.
Halgal - Hope you didn't want a one word answer, because I think you just sparked a bit of a ramble!
That depends on whether you mean favourite character, or favourite performance. The workman was just a bit of storyline really..and so was a bit limited as a character.
Ray's really lovely. He's impetuous, a bit of a lad, inclined to be petulant.....but with a passion, and a vulnerablilty which make him quite charismatic and lovable.
Jason, on the other hand, it a total bastard. He shouts abuse at everyone; the footlball, his mates McDonald - everything is a target for his hatred. He may be a victim of his circumstances.....but it's difficult to feel any sympathy for him. Ray wants to fight as part of a cause against his percieved injustices which makes him positive - Jason's just out to pick a fight with anyone and is just negative in every way.
As far as performance goes....
Jason and Ray are actually opposite sides of the same coin!! When talking about Ray I've used words like lovable, endearing and charismatic - these are all words that I use if I'm talking about Damien.....and he's Irish! What can I say?
On the other hand, I imagine that opening your character's scene with the words 'You ****! You useless fucking ****!' could be pretty intimidating! He was very convincingly angry, agressive and abusive - by far the most provocative character in the play. I know I'm very biased, but it was the stand-out performance of the night for me. (even though the accent was a bit......)
Sorry.....you did ask. lol!

Great to read your answers fifi, I wish I'd seen they play but couldn't so I love reading all detail you can give !!! I bet the sweary character was the biggest shock was he the cockney accent? BEing Irish I can see that one being hard to do for more than a few words, my impression of characters off Eastenders is terrible!!!:D xxx

That was lovely Fifi. Yes, Damien said Jason was his favourite character in the Q & A after the show on Tuesday 5th March
You're a natural reviewer. Next time Damien does a play, you'll have to come to see it with me again and say hi to Damien in person. No excuse next time! I loved his message on your programme.

Ah yes, that's right Laura! the Q&A where Damien winked at you ....... Are you sure you remember anything about it at all?!
Agree with Laura fifi, you have a gift for reviewing, thank you again for writing such a wonderful piece for the fan site.
If you ever feel given to writing up a review as well, or the Q&A Laura, that would be awesome!
Oh god! I don't Domino. I'm glad Matty & UJ was there as I had to ask them. I'd my notebook as well, but knowing that Damien could see me, I could not even get the lid off my pen, let alone write anything!
Thank god Fifi decided to come to London as we'd have no decent review as well. I had my notebook for the 1st night too and all I wrote in it was abs, nice fringe (Workman had a fringe the first night, obviously Damien's hair got too long by the end of the run), looks good wet, abs. Damien 4 Downton.
I am sure it's all buried in my brain somewhere, but , as you can see, the subject matter of the play wasn't the reason why I went to see it.

Haha - Laura, I suspect that the fact that I couldn't see Damien getting changed may have made a difference! To be honest I did read the script before I offered to write a review cos I wasn't sure how well I could remember - which quite genuinely made me realise that what everyone else did was a bit vague (2-glasses-of-wine-with-dinner-to-recover-from-the-shock vague) - but I could remember Damien quite vividly! I really hope that there will be many more opportunities for us to go and see Damien in the theatre.....but I'm not prepared to make any promises about the talking thing!

Thanks Ritz - no, I only saw it the once, but I did get the script and reading it is a bit like looking a photos! I'd love to have been able to see it again having read it because there are bits that I can't remember at all....although watching Damien is very firmly imprinted on my memory.!! Thank you so much for reminding me of this.....
