Just speculation of course, but based on the fact that the filming pictures circulating around about E1 show the main 3 boys on a case together, just the 3 of them, and also include pictures of several guest actors who tweeted this week they've just done the dubbing for E1, and the fact that the first (and only) picture we've seen of Damien on set was posted by a guy that appears in E2... I'm guessing he wont be introduced until later in that first episode, or possibly not until the second? I'm probably and hopefully wrong about that, I want him there the earliest possible!
But he's definitely still filming block 4 so he'll be there till the end (I hope) and I too hope he doesn't get killed off! I JUST finished S1 last night, saw E7 the night before... so sad... I'll be devastated if we have to watch him die! (though tbh curious how he would "play dead" so to speak) Now a big fan of the show, DH loved it also, so I want it to continue more and more Series and for him to be there throughout..

I now have a vision of a really dodgily acted comedy death with lots of rolling around and "woe is me" hand waving then a final screech of doom before falling flat on his face! Thanks...
I suspect you're possibly right that he doesn't appear until ep2, unless he's maybe a uniformed officer who somehow helps to break the case in ep1 and is 'promoted' to plain clothes...? (just hoping for some uniform action tbh!)
I hope he's not so Hobb like. We've already had Hobb. I get it that he'd be the continuation of that character if he had lived, but I'd rather Albert was his own character.

I've been thinking about Flight, wondering what he could be like.
1. A new detective eager to impress his bosses and not much impressing Drake to begin with.
2. There's a new character also in the show by the name of Jedediah Shine who is apparently corrupt who according to info shared, is in charge of 'K' division. Could Flight be his set of eyes inside of 'H' Division perhaps? (hope not!)
I can't wait to find out. Hopefully we'll begin to find out in a couple of months time :)
Sorry, ruby, I prefer your second option. It's got more meat. The only down side to it is that it might number Damien's days on the show to one season only. Poor Albert, wanting to redeem himself, will do something desperate but awfully brave and die doing the right thing! Then come season three, and another new character, and we'll all think, "Yep, that's the guy with 'deadmeat' tattooed across his forehead for this season". Or, Albert could be badly but not lethally wounded, and survive for season three, but he'll have to work hard to win back Drake and Reid's trust.

lol! Have we learnt nothing ? I refer you to this topic!
The writers will undoubtedly be very conscious to create a brand new and different character, and we cannot even be sure if there is a Hobbs connection/continuation at all, although I suppose it is natural to wonder. Or they may tackle that head on with the storyline, because Hobbs was very well loved by his colleagues and the audience, but history has shown us that Damien is the man for transitional character changes. Either way Damien will bring his spellbinding talent to the role. I am not really at the stage of wondering what will happen to Damien's character at the end of series 2 before we have even actually met him, but am open to whatever. I feel pretty trusting in the future of Damien's career path.

I don't know how much he would have known about the character when he auditioned, but I can't see Damien going for something that wasn't meaty as a role. Everything he's done so far has been quite challenging in terms of backstory and things, so I would hope for a 'full' character - if you get what I mean - even if he is good or bad. Still hoping for a dopey romantic type, lol!
Yes, it is going to be so exciting to watch Albert Flight's introduction to H Division unfold, perhaps this is why more character details / pics have been kept under wraps, to avoid such potential plot spoilers. There have been a fair few behind the scenes pics and on location filming videos on the net over the duration of filming, but Damien has not been in any of them As usual I am conflicted over this fact, knowing any more could take away from that experience of pure introduction to his character, trusting that the right info will emerge at right time through the official routes, but at the same time.. I need to know everything. NOW.
One small in costume pic would do at this point actually.
As for the character of Capt. Jackson....yeah - I'm that shallow! And I've got to say that, whatever I may think of the actors comparative attributes, in the pic we've seen of Damien so far....in that costume - he looks rather more 'aww' the 'phwoar'....
Thought they usually have the Actors name on trailers when filming,so that must mean that Damien is always in character even when he's in the trailer? "Det Flight.....we're ready for you know sir!"
When the news of Damien's Ripper Street character was first announced, Digital Spy named him 'Constable Albert Flight'.
I pointed out to them the the BBCA/BBC Worldwide press release had him as 'DETECTIVE Constable Albert Flight'.
Damien's trailer pic simply had ‘Det Flight’, which at the time I assumed was just shorthand..
Damien's Spotlight credits have said 'currently filming Ripper Street....' for a while, but now the following has been added, wth simply 'Detective Albert Flight':
Which is quite interesting, because there is clearly a distinction!
Isn't Detective (with no other indication of rank) an American thing to do? I suspect he is a DC even if he isn't explicitly described as such...or maybe Detective Constable wasn't a rank in 1890? Reid is described as an Inspector rather than DI and Drake a Sergeant, so possibly Detective was only used for DCs...?
Think that entire paragraph has simply served to confuse me further, lol.
Maybe Kat! there may not be a distinction of 'rank' between constable and detective but in my mind there is definitely a distinction. Perhaps' constable' is dropped when out of uniform and in plain clothes?
I don't mind what he's called to be honest, lol, as long as he's on our screens.
Kat
domino as Hal would say, "I wouldn't over analyze it." It could just be they chose to abbreviate for space reasons.

I agree Kat, I just find it curious! And I don't understand how there can be no difference between the two, I still think the original DS article was incorrect with 'constable', but perhaps detective /detective constable are interchangeable.
I cannot wait to found out and this is all part of the ramping up excitement of the pre finding out suspense - so indulge me!
Before daring to draw any conclusions character wise, the possibilities I have considered are he never was a constable in the first place, or it is an error, or he is promoted during the series..but the latter seem unlikely because that would not be revealed at this early stage of publicity surely?
For those who missed it, we are alluding to the description on the new promo photo of Damien's new character posted here
