Curiosity is tipping over into frustration at not knowing if this is a guest role, a recurring role or what for Mr M.... There have been a fair few pics and filming videos pop up on the net and YouTube, but none including Damien apart from that original mysteriously disappearing pic! Other new cast members have been mentioned in media, but still nothing on Damien, it's plain odd!

Damien has it in his spotlight profile as "filming" still........

Su, I saw your tweets with MyAnna Buring about the 4 blocks and yesterday, she seems so nice and friendly and good to see she is a Damien fan too!

While filming Ripper Street is in Dublin, Whitechapel itself is in London so unless Damien's character is Irish specifically, it's a safe bet his character will be English/Londoner.

I think he's involved in this final batch of filming. He's zig-zagging again and after being in London briefly last week (i think it was, i've lost track of time) if only to send off Damo-mail, if he's back in Dublin it could only suggest he's filming in the last block of Ripper Street which in turn suggests it's more than a single episode (and suggests to me he's a new regular or a recurring character) because if he was only in it for the one episode, he'd be done filming by now. And if he was indeed done filming Ripper Street, i think he'd be back in London full time. (And that sounded less stalkerish in my head to be truthful)

lol! you may well be right Lisa, fingers crossed! but we can only speculate he is back there to film.

With Ripper Street, there are options with the english accent, depending on what kind of character he plays....

I just would love to hear something 'not posh' so I can push Hal's voice out of my head for a short time anyway!

If today was a Press Day, then maybe we'll finally get more news soon...?

I have been getting increasingly excited about series 2 of ripper street since i started watching it!

The tweet response from charlene which whimsy mentioned somewhere here has me especially excited! Are they going to be a couple? Is he going to be a womaniser who is always having sexy time? Maybe an abusive bossy boyfriend? EEEkkkk!!!

I seriously cannot WAIT to find out!!

At last! i hoped he'd be a new cast member & i'm thrilled he's playing a Policeman... Would be the icing on Canadian muffin if he spoke with a cockney accent too! I get to do my Laura Linney impersonation again...standing on landing shaking my head back & forth!  stomping my feet & waving my arms in air!! Québécois style! (No video example domino)!

Haaaa!! Towards the end of s1 Rose tries to do something (trying not to spoiler) so maybe Damien's character will stem from that decision *says no more*

Damien is actually playing 'DETECTIVE constable Albert Flight'!

PRESS RELEASE via BBC WORLDWIDE

BBC AMERICA’s Ripper Street Adds to the Cast for its Second Season Premiering December 1 10:00PM ET/PT

David Costabile, Damien Molony, Joseph Mawle among new faces.

New York – July 30, 2013 – The cast of Ripper Street expands when Matthew MacFadyen (Inspector Edmund Reid), Jerome Flynn (Sergeant Bennett Drake) and Adam Rothenberg (Captain Homer Jackson) are joined by new faces in the eagerly anticipated second season, currently filming in Dublin.  David Costabile (Breaking BadThe Wire), Damien Molony (Being Human), Joseph Mawle (Game of ThronesBirdsong) and Leanne Best enter London’s East End in the year 1890.

Matthew MacFadyen has recently said: It’s fantastic to be reunited with much of the wonderful cast and crew from last year. Also to be reunited with my bowler hat – I missed it. The show’s creator Richard Warlow has given us wonderful, strange and unsettling episodes, teeming with the fierce and fragile life of Victorian Whitechapel.”

As the century enters its final decade, the streets teeter on the brink of moral collapse, and nowhere is the declining British Empire’s problems felt more keenly than in its dark heart: the East End of London.  As Jackson attempts to move forward with his life, his brother, Daniel Judge (David Costabile), enters the picture.  Joining Reid and Drake in H Division is new Detective Constable Albert Flight (Damien Molony). While over in K Division, corrupt rival, Inspector Jedidiah Shine (Joseph Mawle) presents numerous obstacles.  Viewers will also meet, Jane Cobden (Leanne Best) – the first woman elected to the London County Council.

Also reprising their roles in season two are Myanna Buring and Charlene McKenna as Long Susan and Rose – bringing feminine fight and glamour to the corrupt and crime ridden streets of Victorian London.

Guest characters this season also include Paul Kaye (2,000 Acres of SkyGame of Thrones), Neve McIntosh (Doctor Who)Gina Bellman (Coupling) and James Wilby (Maurice, Clapham Junction).

Ripper Street is produced for the BBC by Tiger Aspect Productions, Lookout Point and BBC AMERICA.

giddy

So, he's one of the good guys (barring any sneaky plot twists)

Looks like publicity for S2 is gearing up.  Not long now before pictures (and trailers) begin to emerge. halyes

Will be odd to hear him called Albert at first.  He doesn't look like an Albert.  But, if he went by the nickname Al, then that's pretty darn close to Hal.  Al from H Division!!! #allRoadsLeadtoBeingHuman

Beyond excited!!!

Talk about waiting for a bus for hours.... It feels like we've been waiting for news about this for ever and now we've got an idea of how long before it's aired, confirmation that Damien is indeed a series cast member, a name and description all on the same day!

Is it very wrong of me that I just keep thinking.....we need pictures!!!

Great news ! And he.'s a regular cast member too, not just a guest. Even better. That will explain why he's been in Dublin for all the blocks of filming. He must be in every episode.

like this Pearl? yay (admittedly not a happy chappy that policeman and not very victorian either!)

Love the name Albert and sincerely hope they don't shorten it! Of Ripper tradition is followed, he is more likely to be called simply 'Flight'?

On a side note, Victorian writer Charles Dickens was master at giving names that described his characters personalities and traits. Wonder if this will be true for ' Albert Flight '!? oh how swift and dexterous you are detective constable

Since appearing in costume on the set of Ripper Street with Jerome Flynn and Glenn Speers in the above photo, speculation has been rife on Damien’s role in the high profile BBC drama.

But we have exciting news!

Damien is joining the second series not as a guest star as first reported by various media earlier this year, but alongside returning cast members Inspector Reid (Matthew MacFadyen), Sergeant Drake (Jerome Flynn) and Captain Jackson (Adam Rothenberg) as new H Division Detective Constable Albert Flight.

Other new cast members include David Costabile (The Wire, Breaking Bad) as Captain Jackson’s brother Daniel Judge and Joseph Mawle (Game Of Thrones) as corrupt rival, K Division Inspector Jedidiah Shine.

Ripper Street Returns to BBC One this Autumn and BBC America December 1st.

We are thrilled for Damien and beyond excited to see him bring his new character to life on our telly screens before the end of the year.

Check out the full press release via BBC Worldwide below.
