If it's a one episode deal for Damien then going by past guest stars who've appeared in S1 (Joe Gilgun, Paul McGann, for example) then it may be a major role within the episode. Joe Gilgun's character was a nasty piece of work, as was Paul McGann's. Not saying this is the case for Damien's character but he may be centrally placed for his episode (and of course this is absolute speculation so feel free to ignore). A minor regular character was killed off at the end of s1 (he was a junior constable) so if it was to be a regular role then perhaps it could be to replace him. Again pure speculation. I wonder whether there'll be any scenes between him and Amanda Hale- she plays the lead character's wife and was also Lady Mary in BH s5.

One more thing, if Damien is filming now as we've seen and filming started last week, then it suggests that his episode should be one of the first ones to air.

Not forgetting Steven Robertson and Charlene McKenna also in BH Lisa !

Ooh HalGal, hero or villain is a tough one to choose between, with Hal we were treated to Damien playing the light and the dark and the shades in between... So he would be great as both. But ultimately the more complex the character the better in my opinion ..

The costume we saw him in..does that give us any clues I wonder?

Well, if Damien stays in Dublin, on set, for an extended time, then that would suggest he's at least recurring - unless they're doing pick-ups.

The only thing we can tell from his costume is that he's in a period drama, late Victorian times! Unless there's a picture of him peeking out from behind a cape and lurking in shadows, then who knows?

Glenn Speers, the actor who posted the original tweet, has his role in Ripper Street up on his Spotlight profile:

"2013TelevisionNight Refuge ManRIPPER STREETTiger Aspect ProductionsTom Shankland"

As yet Damien does not, fingers crossed for soon, then we can create a section on the forum for 'Television' roles!

A close friend mentioned to me how this could be really good for Damien. Him being in Ripper street, never know who might be watching ready to snap him up for a bigger better role!! always excited for him.

totally Kayla, I think we all agree that this is a great one for Damien to have in his filmography, whatever the role.

Had Being Human been in a prime time BBC One slot, that mega profile mainstream moment may have happened sooner, and it does make me chuckle that we all miffed that Ripper Street may have been responsible (in our speculations) for the rescheduling of BH series 5, but in terms of television drama exposure for an actor, this is about the pinaccle!

As soon as it was rumoured Damien was going to be in Ripper Street, i said that it would be good for him, exposure on a BBC1 hit, prime time, Sunday evening...who knows what it could lead to, if this is indeed a one episode role.

If he's still in Dublin at the end of the month then it may suggest that his role is recurring/a regular/not a single episode but given how non-promotional that boy is, we'll have no way of really knowing unless an official announcement is made elsewhere (ie via the show itself)

I enjoyed catching up on all the speculation here.  I'm giddy about the prospect of seeing Damien on the telly again!!!

There was also this article a few days ago.  It doesn't tell us anything more but at least they got Damien's name correct in the article, if not in the link itself. *eye roll*

http://theeightysixthfloor.com/being-human-star-damian-molony-scores-guest-appearance-in-ripper-street/

I am curious about the wording "his appearance will only be temporary as he’s only signed up as a guest appearance".  All the articles say the same thing and I wonder if that's due to them not knowing anything concrete, so that's the safest thing to assume?

Personally I've not seen Ripper Street - YET - so I don't have any informed opinions to add.  But I agree that if he's there at the first days of filming it is likely he will be in one of the first episodes and *crosses fingers* hopefully it's a reccurring guest role that will last more than one episode.

I did a google - a Night Refuge is a homeless shelter, right?  So Glenn Speers seems to be playing a vagabond.  Don't know how big of a part that would be.

I'm actually now dying to watch the show, to see if there are any clues to be garnered by just his dress.  Ruby, how were those characters that you refer to as "nasty piece of work" dressed?  Pearl24 speculates on the thread with the photo (of which I posted an enhanced version) that he looks to be dressed as someone of the same rank as Jerome Flynn's character.  Could that slot right in with the Junior Constable theory?

Tangentially, his coat is VERY similar to the one Inspector Reid is wearing in the main picture at the BBC website.  It isn't the same - yes I did a comparative analysis, the plaid is a different pattern - but just thought I'd point it out.

This has definitely caused much needed excitement in DaMo land!!!  I wish the man would tweet more, though as far as the role goes, I'm sure he just can't reveal anything yet.  But those empty plate and coffee tweets would be welcome.  They at least give us insights into his location.

Hi Whimsy! I chatted with theeightysixthfloor.com about their article, I wanted to know more about that part you highlighted. They said they based it on the digital spy article (posted earlier in this thread) so still speculative.

Without wishing to give spoilers for anyone how has not seen the first series, there is another kind of refuge Glenn Spears' role could be referring to!

Asides from the detail, the more this sinks in, the more I am also giddy

Whimsy: The two characters that were nasty bits of work were dressed differently Joe Gilgun played a kind of 'artful dodger' type of character so his attire was less neat and tidy and Paul McGann's character played an engineer so was more well dressed. It'd be nice if he were indeed playing a junior detective but we will find out in due course (and at least we have something to look forward collectively, not a play where some of us live vicariously through others, this will be on television and therefore we can all see it)

I do recommend Ripper Street. The writing is very good, the performances equally so. Matthew MacFadyen plays Edmund Reid and Amanda Hale (Lady Mary in BH) plays his wife Emily and let me tell you, she's the furthest thing possible from Lady M, when i saw her in the Lady M role, i already recognised her from Ripper Street and my eyes were on stalks!!) Jerome Flynn (also plays/played Bronn (i think) in GoT) is Bennet Drake his right hand man and Adam Rothenberg plays Homer (again, i think, writing this off top of my head) and he's an American with a bit of a shady past with a connection to Long Susan (played by the wonderful MyAnna Buring) and is also the police surgeon/forensic person of the time. The dialogue is very off the time (no modern slang) but the stories are absorbing and interesting. Damien, whether it's a guest or a regular role (I suspect the former) will fit in very well.

Lol! fifi that's a brilliant way of putting it!

I am beginning to suspect the same Lisa and cannot wait to find out for sure!

I really enjoyed Damiens' occasional tweets during Being Human Series 5 filming, it would be awesome to have just one little tweet about Ripper Street!

In other news, Ripper Street is up for the Television Drama Series 2013 BAFTA on Sunday

After driving my friend Stig nuts about this topic he suggested i contact Tiger Aspect & below is the reply i had to my email.

Thanks for your interest in Ripper Street. The information you are requesting should be available in the next week. I will make sure a copy of the press release reaches you. Kind regards. Iain McCallum - Head of Press and PR - Tiger Aspect Productions

Is it possible for you to confirm that the Actor Damien Molony has joined the cast of "Ripper Street" which i understand is currently being filmed as a second series? If you are not able to confirm this then when do you usually have or release this information about new cast members?

Kind Regards

Jean-Baptiste Denaude

It'll be nice to have a little bit more information. Is he a guest, is he recurring, will they be keeping him? Just to know would be nice. Oh well, next week is nearly here.

My reply from Tiger Aspect is far briefer and to the point, maybe they have been inundated with enquiries about Damien's casting!

Full casting details will be released to you in the next week

eeek!

I'm not sure why this is so exciting.  The cynic in me says that we won't find out anything other than what we already know.

but still.....eeeek!!

Hopefully they'll confirm if it's just a guest role or a recurring one. I suspect their official release will only announce major cast changes, but at least we should be able to glean something from it.

The reply J-B received implies that it will be specific: "The information you are requesting should be available in the next week", but yes perhaps it will only confirm by default if Damien is not listed as a major character.

If we get official confirmation that Damien has a guest role....does that automatically imply that he would only be in one ep?
