Oooh I like all of these....dopey romantic for Rose may be a bit too close to Jerome Flynne's character (not thathe was dopey at all, but the unrequited Roes love storyline).
Pradakat - you now need to think of three victorian words he can say in french ..all seductively!
Dear lordy! where do you girls get these idea's from?! He could play a French male pros who worked the slums of Paris dressed in drag who has fled to London after killing a client on rue homo who wanted to go all the way! He seeks refuge in the ripper st brothel under the name of Pierre Derrière! & the rest is up to you!
Oh my.. This is inspired Pearl..I would love it... We will get more singing and dancing out of Damien if its the last thing we do!
I woke up this morning with a clearer idea of the master criminal I'd like Damien to play in Ripper Street.. He would be Detective Inspector Edmund Reid's Moriarty!
oooo, great idea, him being a Lawyer - a good guy, but up against the Police trying to make them better at getting criminals behind bars. And her brother-in-law, or some kind of family, would be a good idea...or a potential lover for her (after all, Reid got a bit fruity with someone else in the last series!)
I agree that something edgy would be good, but Ripper Street seems to fall into the 'Family Friendly' category, even though it's shown post-9pm, certainly compared with Luther and the like. It's got a bit of 'bite' but is still quite fluffy really, lol.
Yet, Ripper Street has it's share of gore and violence, hence all the fuss earlier this week about it being too easily available on the BBC iplayer. So I guess I mean role wise, the drama itself does have a bit of edge.
There's plenty of gore and violence on all the catch-up TV sites (and it's a lot easier to access on YouTube as well), so I'm not sure why they focused so much on that in particular, unless it's not listed as adult? But then it's only a button click to get through that anyway...
Another idea is someone involved in the church that Emily is. She holds her faith dear, what if Damien's character is a member of the same congregation, one who lends an understanding shoulder and a listening ear and she finds herself tempted by him?...given what her husband got up to towards the end of the last series with Mrs Goren, that would be interesting!
I don't have anything informed to add to this discussion as I still haven't seen Ripper Street (will wait till it's closer to S2 airing I expect) but I gotta say some of the comments here are just LOL!
I had a proper AWWWW moment the other day when I read one of his interviews from last year and saw this:
Dream role Shaun the Post in Boucicault’s Arrah-na-Pogue. He is so in love and so romantic and charming.
I would LOVE to see Damien in love and all romantic and charming! Originally I thought RS was gritty and dark, but from the sounds of it there's fluff. Then bring on fluffy romantic Damo! And as Su so eloquently pointed out, a bit of rough and tumble wouldn't be remiss...

I mentioned new trainee detective previously and I do think it's more realistic than some of my other suggestions! If he could be a love interest as well, then that's a bonus!
Kat, I think your theory has merit. Trainee Detective. He's quite clean shaven in his costume picture and looks very young. (I just noticed in the tweet from Reg last week he looks clean shaven too). And that tweet from Charlene McKenna just has me all intrigued about the possibility of a love interest...
