In Aidan's interview before BH started he said that it was impossible to remove all the shadows within the budget restraints. They had an explanation for it if anyone wanted to know.
thanks pearl... to clarify though it wasn't a criticism of Hal having a shadow! I just love this screen shot especially the context...and the symbolism of Hal having a shadow
Agree with UJ there that the dark shadow is the monster and the light one the human...and I can see that they fight for "supremacy" in Hal's world. Maybe that's why we can only see the dark shadow when he's going for the blood, but with Natasha he's trying to resist it?
There's Hal, the manager, and behind him is Lord Hal, and then there's human Hal.
Absolutely!
Kat - I like the idea that "we can only see the dark shadow when he's going for the blood, but with Natasha he's trying to resist it".....and the light shadow is turned towards Natasha - the dark shadow is turned away!

WOW, this is so profound! My mind is actually blown away by this!
So in order to say anything intelligible on this topic I looked up the difference between a reflection and a shadow:
"A shadow is the absence of light, a reflection is the reflection of light. So a shadow comes from blocking a light source, a reflection comes from the bouncing of light off one source and on to another."
Which fits Hal/vampires perfectly. He doesn't have a reflection because a reflection requires light, and he/vampires have sold their soul, their light, in order to live forever. He has a shadow, or even multiple shadows as in that shot, as the curse blocks their light, as their bad nature consumes their humanity.
Or something something something...

While I was writing my last post, I was thinking that it was bizzare to use the term 'light shadow'. It's a total contradiction! But the second shadow really does seem to glow; hal's inner humanity and all that. But it's very blurry - the dark one is much better defined.
It's amazing what a bit of bad production lighting can lead to....!

more wonderful insights fifi!
I wonder what Lord Toby would think of us analyzing this "bit of bad production lighting". LOL
