you mean his parental history is another deception?! noooooo! that speech before during and after the milk guzzling in the Flight and Evelyn scene in episode 4 is one of my faves of the series... I totally believed him.... but that makes for interesting thought...
Oh no I totally think we he says about his parents his true! I was just putting it out there! After the cuckoo in another man's nest shock of episode 7 you begin to doubt everything you think you know about Flight!
When Evelyn confronts him about not being Betrand Doyle she asks if what he said about his parents was true. He was adamant that it was and seemed really hurt that she would suggest that he would lie about that. As I said it would be really cruel of Flight to make that up to manipulate Evelyn knowing what he does of her own history. Flight is a lot of things but he is not cruel (we see him being very kind and compassionate towards others quite a few times). If we assume that it is true, then this makes Flight a much more sympathetic character and goes a long way to explaining his actions as the series develops. Otherwise his behaviour is just pretty low! He would obviously have been deeply affected by the loss of his parents, particularly if his life had been a struggle after that (which we are kind of assuming based on his criminal past).
What he says about imaging what it is like for other people to have a family always moves me to tears. I wish there was a function on the tv where you could give characters a hug! I love that scene too, domino, because it feels like you are getting to see the real Flight and that 'truth' is something we cling on to throughout the series. It makes you think there is much more to Flight than you see on the surface. It was definitely episode 4 that made me love Flight (and Damien).
Lol domino! And sorry - yes, it was you who first came up with the idea of Flight working for Susan.....but, in my defense, I was thinking more along the lines of him working for her in her efforts to exact her revenge on Duggan, which would surely include Shine's downfall, rather than actually working in her establishment!
I'd not seriously considered the possiblitly that Flight was lying to Evelyn....but it is an interesting thought that we accept this to be at least a version of the truth, when we know nothing else about him other than he was arrested for fraud/deception and that he was working undercover for Shine. Lying may prick his conscience, but he seems to be well practised and quite accomplished......
Amazon will showing an exclusive, extended version of Ripper Street 3, before BBC air the 58 min version a few months later. There will be less restrictions on content too apparently......
Without the time restrictions of scheduling, that is an exciting prospect!
I thought that I could be patient and wait for it to be shown on the BBC but this puts a whole different spin on it! I think I might have to succumb to signing up!
It's becoming very frustrating that we don't know about Flight. I'm beginning to lose hope a little bit...
The extra freedom allowed by being broadcast on Amazon does sound quite exciting......and I guess this is quite an effective way for Amazon to pursuade people to sign up rather than just waiting for it to air on the BBC. You can't blame them really!
I'm starting to lose hope again as well Rosie. They seem to be keeping things extremely close and I'm wondering if we won't know for sure until the promotion starts for s3 (unless we get news of Damien being involed in another project which makes it impossible) . Last year official news wasn't released until October......
I think I'm still hoping that it's hush-hush so that they don't spoil some amazing storyline! If that's the case then I don't mind not knowing until I see it. Nobody likes spoilers!
Now there will be more freedom for Ripper Street on Amazon perhaps they can show our Flight spin-off series when we write it!
No I don't want spoilers......I just want to know if we're going to get more Flight! Surely that's not too much ask? If I knew for sure that he wasn't I could just get on with looking forward to it....but all of this not knowing makes me worried that by the time we find out I'll be too disappointed to enjoy it properly!
Has anyone heard anything more about the release of the Ripper Street soundtrack? I watched a couple of series 2 episodes yesterday and now have the theme tune in my head which reminded me that they were supposed to be releasing the soundtrack.
No news, even on his FB page. The whole Ripper Street situation is frustrating!

If there is no news of anything, does that suggest that Damien is not involved in any other projects at the moment which would prevent him being able to join in the filming of Ripper Street? Doesn't filming carry on into August?
I can confirm the official line is still "no news" on Damien's involvement or not, which IS frustrating as it is known now obviously by the creators... and the show would not be returning at all if it were not for the FANS who fought for it!
Unfortunately no news doesn't suggest anything Rosie, except possibilities for endless things Damien could be involved with after Suspects has completed filming. But yes, Ripper Street continues filming to mid August.
Would the official sources just say that Damien wasn't involved if he was not in it? If Flight is not in this series then saying Damien is not involved isn't going to spoil any storylines. Or am I just desperately trying to read between the lines?
That is the conundrum Rosie! It could just be that official sources have been told to reveal nothing about casting, period. There has been zero official comment on Series 3 at all... Louise Brealey's casting was publicised by the media. I am just hoping that we are not left until it airs to find out! It is very difficult to know how to promote it without the info, from my point of view. If we found out Damien wasn't it in I would still promo it but in a different way. currently, it is all on hold and I feel i cannot even mention it!
I guess if they're told not to reveal anything...that means absolutely anything. But the cynic in me can't help thinking that if we're told he's not in it, then we might stop talking about it and they lose a little bit of buzz.....
When they first started talking about series 3, they said the 5 main characters were back. Clearly Reid, Drake and Jackson. They made a big deal about Susan having more of a role. But who is the fifth? Rose? Flight?
I know what you mean fifi, but as far as the fansite pages go, and promo, we're not talking about Ripper Street anyway.. so I think it is just a case of they cannot officially say.
I guess the official promo will be ramping up closer to the release date. I guess we'll just have to patient. I am assuming that if Flight is in it then he won't be playing a major part in the series otherwise Damien would have spent/been spending more time in Dublin.
Yes indeed Rosie location filming in Dublin is finished, and now filming at Clancy Barracks until September 6. Our last chance for any word on Flight's return!
But, if he is not, let's not be disheartened, all it can mean is that Damien is focussing on his next big project!
I love Ripper Street anyway and am really excited about the new series whether we see the return of Flight or not. If he is not in it, Flight still lives on in my fan fic which is currently under construction.
Also I am really excited to find out what Damien will be doing next! I think I'd like to see him in another play.
I have had no official confirmation of this, but it seems unlikely Damien will be returning as Flight for Ripper Street 3, based on this interview:
You starred as Albert Flight in series three of Ripper Street - were you pleased for the show when Amazon brought it back?
It’s such a brilliant thing because the show is absolutely brilliant. I was so disappointed when it was cancelled – after that final episode of series two, it was screaming out for a third, fourth, fifth series. For Richard [Warlow, the writer] and his team, what they’ve done is incredible TV and I haven’t seen anything like it. I get goosebumps even now thinking about that last scene in the boxing ring and I just know series three is going to be a smash hit.
I guess there is always the possibility that he managed to squeeze in a few days filming somewhere without it being publicly mentioned.. but we may not know for sure until the show actually airs!
Like Rosie, I will be watching Ripper Street's return with or without Flight, but if he is not in it then I will be very disappointed if his story is not dealt with in a comprehensive way.
