It's all speculation anyway perhaps RS will move to a new slot!

On balance I am of the opinion that I don't really mind when it airs, just happy that DaMo is going to be back on our tellys again! yay

Perhaps it will move to a later slot or an earlier slot? Or a different day altogether, though i think it suits a Sunday night most. They did say they hoped for October and November is still before the US premiere date.

Agree with you both Lisa and fifi, Ripper Street feels like a Sunday evening drama. Best case scenario, nov 3rd, worst case scenario, the original 2014 air date stands

I love the idea do ripper street approaching the Christmas season though, and remember the last pic Damien posted of the set, H Division and the ladder? That looked like snow.......

I will be keeping my fingers and toes crossed for November 3rd. In fact, I will cross everything cross-able.

*goes back to photo*

It does sort of look like a slight dusting of snow. Or is it just beat up cobblestone? Hmmm...But then again, the rooftops look like they may have a dusting? Calling all other detectives...

There is something nice about having Ripper Street around Christmas...actually it will be the best present for me because I will be out of school and actually able to enjoy every single moment!

BBCA is keeping Ripper Street on Sundays.  Though that doesn't mean much, they have "theme days", Being Human was on Supernatural Saturday.  I haven't paid attention to what Sunday's theme is.

I do find it hard to believe that it would air in the US before the UK.

In that picture I don't see snow at all.  Looks like weathered cobblestones with drifts of leaves at the gutters.  But who knows...

hmmm.. maybe it was wishful thinking thinking that what a sheen of white snow..... if they don't have snow in Ripper Street they are missing a trick though. RS is never going to be a fairytale magicalness setting for christmas period, there is zero whimsy (sorry whimsy I cat think of another word!) in the show and it doesn't pull any punches in terms of its portrayal of life in the underbelly of victorian london....and that stylisation really appeals to me....but the blanket of white falling over the grim dark streets of London would be a thing to behold. though VFX peeps work your magic!

When I first saw this pic, I totally saw it as snow or frost....but it could just be a bad photo!  I agree that ripper street wouldn't do the magical/fairytale white christmas thing, and it may just be wishful thinkng - but I can so see them having a christmas episode the week before christmas.  And it keeps me optimistic for a pre christmas air date (although I'm not sure how well it would work in the US, airing a month later.....)

Christmas was made for victorian drama and we wouldn't the BBC want to buck that tradition! :)
It would be disappointing if the date was moved to after Christmas ad i would be very surprised. But anything is possible!

I totally agree domino! It would be something to see...the detectives inspecting a murder on a crisp, winter evening. The snow glistening by light of the lamp post, the crunching of snow beneath their feet, and the escape of frosty air from their mouth when coming upon a gruesome scene. Kind of chilling (yeah, I went there...) and eerie.

I highly doubt too that it would air after Christmas. I still think you're on the spot with the November air date.

I agree hermyownee, are you volunteering? #FlightFic

Yes exactly kat, the era is made for snow and grim christmas themes, with a light at the end of a long dark tunnel!

I was thinking about the air date, the BBC does have a growing number of quality dramas to squeeze into 1 Sunday night, so maybe the will move Ripper Street from it's original slot? As yous aid a while back Rubyrosetta, they have to fit Inspector George Gently too. The second series of The Paradise, too..it originally had the midweek slot though so who knows. I would prefer RS to stay on the Sunday because even though it would still get high ratings in a different slot, I think they would be higher still on a weekend.

Out of interest, New series 'Atlantis' premieres BBC One 28 September, on BBC America 23 November - I am clutching at straws here but am telling myself there has to be at least this kind of a time gap for Ripper Street! We know it cannot be October for a Sunday night slot now because of 'By Any Means', but possibly a different slot?

Atlantis is the big Autumn drama. It's being plugged everywhere so the Beeb wouldn't put anything else near it. It's starting the same weekend as the live Strictly shows, so it's going to be a big launch day.

George Gently has been Sunday nights, but I think the last series was midweek. It may Depend on what By Any Means is about to what comes after; I don't think they'd want to do two Victorian dramas one after the other. And The Paradise is possibly too similar to Downton to put them directly against each other. I wonder if the schedulers are playing against each other and trying to keep big launches under wraps for as long as poss?

Interesting Kat, I don't recall IGG being midweek. But with that out of the way, what else could really follow on from By Any Means on Nov 3, other than Ripper Street!

Just wanted to say that first run Inspector George Gently episodes have always run on a Sunday night on BBC 1. Midweek repeats run on Alibi through the week. The last series of IGG was a Sunday night (i remember because i'd get both kids off to school on a Monday, settle down with a cup of tea and watch the previous night's recording of IGG)

Maybe IGG will be rescheduled til after Christmas, therefore getting Ripper Street's original slot. So perhaps we'll get the show that's replacing What Remains, then Ripper Street, break for Christmas perhaps, or not and then the new episodes of IGG. Lee Ingleby hinted at September for the new episodes but that isn't happening at the moment so who knows?

Thank you for clarifying Lisa!

As you mentioned before regarding the schedules, the only issue with Ripper Street beginning on Nov 3 is it will be up against Downton Abbey's final episodes, and I hear the DA finale is going to be 'feature length'.

So my fellow detectives... what do we think? will it be Ripper Street after 'By Any Means' in the Sunday slot? or?

(Hermyownee, please don't get too excited my ideas are often rubbish ones! but all will be revealed!)

Another thought.. MyAnna Buring is also in Downton Abbey..... would they air Ripper Street at the same time?

Doesn't matter because it's different channels. It often happens that the same people appear on multiple channels in different shows. If they were both BBC channels then maybe, but I don't think the BBC1 schedulers would be paying that much attention to who's actually in Downton...

Well I really hope it's no later than November because I am getting serious Damien withdrawals here! we need him on TV soon!!! Can't believe there is no date yet!!!
I think it would be a bit weird having the same actress on 2 shows at the same time, but don't watch downtown maybe she is not in all the episodes? Xxx

I agree that the schedules - especially across different channels - don't seem to take casting 'clashes' into account.

I've never watched Downton Abbey....but I've got the impression it's a bit period drama soap opera-ish?  In which case I'd imagine there is some audience cross-over, but not necessarily across the board.  I wonder whether the BBC might fancy their chances in denting it's viewing figures by running Ripper St at the same time?

I just wish they'd hurry up and tell us when it's going to be on!!!

Yes, everyone who i have asked has said it won't make any difference having MyAnna in 2 shows on different channels at the same time. but personally, if i were schedule planning i would take it into account - just as different channels take into account ratings wars. (Go MyAnna by the way- how cool to be in both these period shows, 2 very different characters!)

I would have thought that pitching Ripper Street against Downton could go either way, either embrace the ratings battle or avoid it. I know plenty of peeps who watch RS but not Downton (me included, sorry I have to confess I don't watch it!) so we are just waiting for Ripper Street irrespective of DA.

Before 'By Any Means', which just premiered in the Sunday night 9pm slot, there was a 'coming soon' trailer for 'The Paradise'! no air dates yet that i know of but last series it was a midweek drama... it would be odd perhaps to put that in font of By Any means if it were to be the next Sunday slot ? phew! who knows! Right now i have absolutely no idea when Ripper Street will air, but we are only a few days away from October.... which was the original rumoured premiere date for the uk (via TV Times mag) and the only way it could be October now anyway is if it moves from the Sunday to another slot!

Still keeping everything crossed for November 3rd.
