Looks like channel 5 are ramping up the promotion of Suspects as an extended trailer with cast interviews was aired tonight. Fingers crossed they'll stick it on you tube soon. Here are a few pics I managed to catch to whet your appetites....
He's checking his phone & grinning here. I like to think he's reading twitter
oh le sigh, I'm in love! 9 days till we meet Jack Weston!!!
That last picture is definitely the yummiest! I'm loving the post-Flight, almost-Dan look! Another make-up artist to be jealous of...
So yes, according to Fay, 20 true days of filming, though it must have been spread out a bit between episodes so they could prep. If they are being followed along from 1st call to finally catching the suspect, then it is possible as Kat says they would film fairly linearly and very few takes. It does have a documentary feel just from the trailers we've seen.
9 DAYS!!!!!

A few interviews with Fay Ripley have appeared, as they are not Damien interviews I thought we could post them in this topic. They seem to be generically the same with a few nuances.
Just occurred to me once again he's playing an Irishman who's name does not sound Irish. Albert Flight and Jack Weston both sound American, actually.

Everything about this series is sounding very positive. And, just in case you've forgotten.....from Wednesday Damien is going to be a lead charater on tv for an hour every week until the beginning of April!!
10 whole weeks, 10 whole hours of him as a lead!!!!!! WestonWednesdays will be my new favorite day of the week!

"Shot mockumentary style, Suspects is presented as a fly on the wall documentary that follows a serious crime unit operating in London, so far so ordinary right? Wrong. Suspects has a twist in it's makeup that gives it the potential to blow even the strongest competitors out of the water in that it's totally unscripted.
Let me repeat that, Channel 5 are producing a mockumentary about a serious crime unit that is totally unscripted. To say that this is a bold move would be an understatement.
After all, most dramas rely on the scripts to shape the characters and to move the plot. However, Suspects takes the nod from famously unscripted US comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm in that the actors are given the plot points needed to hit within each scene and then allowed to get on with it. This, at least in theory, gives you a much wider scope to get the best from your cast.
After all, the reactions to changes in the plot will be as close to real as you can get as the actors aren't playing cops in so far as the classic definition of acting goes. They are, instead, playing themselves if they were police as opposed to actors. As a concept that's about as easy as it comes to explaining it."
I know I've said it before....but have just been musing how far away from Ripper Street Suspects is....
It's ironic considering that Damien plays a detective in both, but almost everything about these 2 shows is different!....from each other, but also from anything else on tv... And they both have autenticity - a gritty realism.
Ripper street is meticulously scripted with a large budget and lots of post production.....that's part of what makes it quality drama.....in contrast to the low budget/unscripted/low production aspects of Suspects.....not to mention the 10(ish) hours of tv shot in 5 weeks! It must make for a very different working experience too....
I am loving seeing Damien play a non genre / period character. I am not sure quality drama is determined by budget I guess it depends on your definition of quailty and drama. I am very much about storytelling characterisation and performance so i think for me how compelling, how engaging, how invested, and frankly how long before i switch over, is the measure of the drama. I was gripped by Suspects and i think i would be even if Damien wasnt in it!
Ah..yes - I should've put 'quality drama' in quotes. I did say '...part of what makes it quality...'!
The production of Ripper Street is surely a significant factor in what makes it a quality drama, though? and that level of production (just the sheer number of people involved alone) is what makes it expensive. That absolutely doesn't mean that I think something needs to have a lot of money spent on it to be quality........
You beat me to it by ten minutes! This is the bit which caught my eye - "Jack, the DS brilliantly played by Damien Molony, "
On page 8 of the actual magazine this is what they say -
"Prepare to shudder at the all-too-believable east London detectives pursue a serial rapist. The good news is, Channel 5's first original drama in many years is just that - original."
Squeals at all the DaMo feels in these reviews! Fay is supposedly "the celebrity" on this show, but everyone's giving Damien top marks and top billing. I cannot wait to see more and more episodes!
So that wall is Jack's spot...

that part stood out for me too Pearl, the whole sentence:
"At one point tonight Jack, the DS brilliantly played by Damien Molony, sits at his desk and prods his keyboard, grumbling, “Can’t get on to the server...” And that’s about the closest to a sub-plot or light relief that Suspects gets. "
(Jack is so looking at the forum on a day when we get the 500 error message!!?!? )
