domino, it sure was an exciting Molony Monday! We're getting spoiled lately.
UJ I had the same thought. Improvised is usually comedies. Have no idea what to expect with this!

There are tons of movie scenes with improvised lines, and many more we probably don't know about! But with this project I can imagine it adding to the documentary style and immediacy of the drama. I am also excited that we are going to see Damien in a kind of reality based drama, present day....
From what little I've read about the forerunner Crime Stories, it sounds like it wasn't just improvised dialogue, it wasn't scripted at all, and it showed. I hope the creator has learned from this.
Pearl, Mike Leigh workshops with the actors. They improvise, and then Leigh writes up a script based on what the actors came up with, bringing form and structure to it.
To improvise around an idea is a sketch, not a drama.

There was a forerunner? How did I miss that? I thought Crime Stories was about true crimes?
I thought with Suspects it is a fictional drama with just bits of improv, either way, I am so excited for this!
Good to see the other lead characters are female, with Fay Ripley as the inspector! cannot wait to see that dynamic!
I would expect there to be a loose script if nothing else 'scene starts at this point and ends with this happening'. As you say, it'll be the calibre of the director and 'writers' that will make or break it.
I've been thinking about this and trying to picture what it's going to be like in my head. I don't know anything about Crime Stories or the production behind that and Suspects, and I don't know anything about the other actors.
I'm envisioning the "look" to be like where in shows they have someone "filming" parts of it. I'm not sure how to describe it, the only things I've seen recently that come to mind for that type of look are an episode of Supernatural (S8E4) and the movie Chronicle.
As for the improvisation, we've seen that he does indeed have a script, even though in one of the articles the producer(?) said no script. Does anyone have info on the writer(s). Hopefully it will all go smoothly, especially as you all have pointed out the caliber of the actors is high. In general actors don't have much say in what's said but they do give input in that tweeks are sometimes made from take to take based on their performance, so I think it will more or less be just a heightened amount of tweeking. It would be hard for them to have to think up dialog on the spot, but they can follow their instincts as to changing some for better effect or play off each other more.
I don't really know, just rambling. What I do know is that I will be glued to it. I never liked the scuffy/beardie look until seeing Damien with it. That photo is just a tantalizing hint of what's to come. Damien as a lead, in a contemporary role, leather jacket, charming!, man of action, acute emotional intelligence... possible romantic liaison... all rational thought goes out the window...
I'm thinking English accent.

Crime Stories wasn't very good domino, i only caught one episode and it was a bit of a headscratcher as i didn't know how i was supposed to react to it if you see what i mean and the acting wasn't particularly good. The fact that both Damien and Faye are attached to this makes me a bit more hopeful that the lessons pertaining to Crime Stories have been learned and applied. I'm *really* looking forward to meeting DS Jack Weston. And the pic of them both tweeted on Monday is sublime. Leather jacket, beardie...i'm already sold!
Thanks for that Lisa I am missing what the link is between the two projects though? is there one? or are people just likening it?
Agree with you on the look, I keep trying to be sensible in this topic but then have sneaky look back at the photo.....
I was intrigued by the actress's tweet where she says she's "going to miss european toilets & rats"! so i googled her (as i didn't know who she was) & one of the articles mention a people trafficking storyline so now i'm wondering which part of europe have they filmed in & if all the stories are intertwined (not sure if thats right word ) like the Channel 4 drama "Run" back in july. Just my thoughts am prob wrong again!
'Suspects' is directed by Craig Pickles of Waterloo Road, Hollyoaks and John Hardwick (lesser known) and i think one ep, but he directed an episode of 'Coming Up' which was fabulous so there are all sorts of influences going into this new drama...hence my confusion with the earlier comparison.
@whimsy and Kat - beardy scruffy look works for me too!
@J-B I took the european toilets comment literally too so don't worry... you are not alone! I'd love it now if that sex trafficking episode was actually filmed there!
We now have a name and date for one of the ten episode in SUSPECTS (formerly known as 'Evidence'), directed by John Hardwick (not sure if this is the first of the ten eps, or where it will appear in the series)
Quote: Paul Marquess, Managing Director, Newman Street says: “Working without a script means that you need actors who are confident, intelligent and articulate. Fay, Clare and Damien have wholeheartedly embraced this very new process; the results have a spontaneity about them that is fresh, engaging and hugely watchable.“
The "Evidence" page on IMDB now shows Damien's picture, and a few others. How does one go about updating Damien's photo there. It's extremely outdated...
I was looking at the acting credits for the other two leads and realize I've seen Clare-Hope in Children of Men. Fabulous movie, and quite "big" with Clive Owen, Julianne Moore, Michael Caine to name a few...

it seems likely Lisa, all reports are talking of a debut in the New Year, but we cannot be sure and also which episode it is!
J-B Don't worry, I thought the same
whimsy, I can only see Damien's pic on the AWOL episode page (linked to above and the pic was there already) but i agree about changing the picture on his profile page, it is somewhat our of date now, although I will always be fond of the RAKE photos. Unfortunately photo changes can only be done by agents or reps. Claire Hope-Ashitey was more recently in 'Top Boy', a BAFTA-nominated channel 4 drama here in the uk well worth checking out if you get the chance.
