I wouldn't walk it from Paddington, it will take coming on for an hour. It's only two stops on the tube as well (or a number of buses go between them as well)
The play, I believe, is approx 90 minutes long, but I would allow an extra half-hour anyway.
Fifi, thank you for continuing to share, you have given those of us who cannot see the play a real insight and visceral experience - thank you! as you know, I enjoy your theatre reviews
Hi Matty, good to see you thanks for dropping by (don't be a stranger!)
As far as I am aware no forumers are going on 6th Feb, but if there is anyone out there who is, please come and tell us!
The only other advice i would offer is don't dress too warmly it is a small and closeup space and if you sit in the front row you will be very close to the actors. eye contact and everything. and am i right in saying nowhere to put bags and coats?
the timetable of forumers attending is below.
(is this right everyone?)
The Gate, London
18th Jan: Laura, fifi
23rd Jan: Laura, Brookesey
25th Jan: Laura, Becca, UJ, Su
28th Jan: Kat and OH
8th Feb: Ritz (matinee)
Royal & Derngate, Nottingham
1st March: IAmArmony (matinee) Becca, fifi, Su (evening)
yes fab news about the play - that is almost a month run at the Gate, with time for a breather before the Royal & Derngate, DaMo and William are going to need their stamina!
Does anyone know how to get tickets other than online or over the phone. i asked the venue and they sell them but at 6:30pm the day of the performance... going on the day probably not the best option since its selling out... fast!
Welcome Carrie Those are the only methods I am aware of, if you have asked the venue itself then that appears to be the options, are you having difficulty buying a ticket online or over the phone? If we hear of any fans who are wanting to sell their ticket we will be sure to let eveyone know. Not happened so far though, as you say, tickets are selling out fast!
i just dont have the means to buy them either on line or over the phone. i haven't ever been to theatre before... although i wanted too,new hobby to take up for a milestone birthday. but apprently very difficult to do! :-\
im not sure how theatres operate im used to band venue smaller places its usually pay at the door. if book online its a comformation thing you print off and what not but idk how it works. im very used to going into box office asking for tickets getting them.
Sorry to hear that Carrie, I am sure you have already thought of it, but could you ask someone to help you out with the ordering part? there are discounts too I believe and as far as theatre goes the tickets are very reasonable. it would be such a shame if you missed out. Sorry that we cannot be of more help.
The discounts were only for the first week - up until press night I think - so it's only full price now unless you're disabled.
I've booked my tickets online but it's Box Office collection so I have to go down on the night to pick them up, so the Box Office (as such) will be open, but because it's such a small venue, it's only open on the night of the performance as you have already said Carrie.
Tbh, booking online is really easy, the only limiting factor is having a credit card. Otherwise it's very simple indeed.
I hope you manage to be able to get tickets Carrie, it's definitely worth going.
Btw Domino, I'm going on the evening of the 8th now as well as the 28th.
thanks for the exta info Kat, didn't realise the discounts were limited? on the Gate website it says:
A limited number of discount tickets are available for each performance at £15. If no further discounts are available your ticket will be charged at full price.
Discounts are available for students, unwaged, disabled, over 60's, and Equity, BECTU and MU members. Please note that proof of eligibility will be needed on collection of your tickets.
I hope everyone who is going enjoys it, alas i gutted i cant get tickets the venue doesnt sell them in advance in person. just hope i get to see something of his next time (fingers crossed) he does a play. it sounds very interesting as well.
Do you not have a credit or debit card then Carrie? It really is easy over the phone and you would only need to show your card at the Box Office to pick up your tickets. You shouldn't miss out...
There are still tickets available for the extension week, so you may still be able to rock up on the day and get something.
No I don't have either, i have a dad who refuses to buy anything online or over the phone with a debit card. people who i know dont live in London anymore so asking them for a favour is not an option. The trouble is small places whether it be a theatre or venue only ever do online/phone bookings or its at the door on the night. I got very used to that when i was going to bands some years back. However bands i saw never sold out a venue so i could just turn up and get in. I dont see why any place couldn't offer an in person box office in advanced but thats the way things seem to be so... Going to theatre is a new thing for me i got tickets for a play in April/May at the Royal Court Theatre and quite easily went in and bought tickets so with that in mind if in the future Damien or any of my other fave actors/actresses do a play there i know i can get tickets at the place itself.
Plus it is selling out fast and it quite away to get to for me to go more than once in the hope it hasnt sold out.
Agree Carrie, this play does sound excceedingly interesting, it's one I am sad to miss as well (and quite a few of us here!) Again, sorry we cannot be of more help.
I love hearing about the experiences of others though!
Matty, sounds like you have it all figured out! Pleae come back and tell us all about it!
Forgot to mention, apparently the audience are asked to wear overshoes as well? can anyone confirm this (and explain why!??! ) is it the snow?
From what I've read it seems like the whole theatre is covered in snow which is why the audience are given overshoes. I guess I'll find out for sure on Saturday!
