I think, he enjoys this arresting a lot. Maybe reminds him of his times in the field?

I agree.  Maybe also it allows him to let out some of his aggression.

Ok, this arresting scene was my favorite.

The intense of it, I was so excited and I noticed that Damien had got some training about arresting people and close combat moves, I noticed that when I watched episode again, I had to watch that scene couple of times again. And how furious Jack was! I just freaking love that scene!

I was really bothered by the manhandling of Robbie's stuff and having it fall to the ground.  He's innocent until proven guilty right?  Treat his stuff with some respect.

in the previous scene the team were discussing if the bag was big enough for a toddler Jane, so although i agree with what you say, if you are desperately trying to find a missing child.....

Jane, Jack was looking evidence, no matter if you are guilty or not, if you are arrested and they search you it's never pretty. And if something goes broken etc. They will repay. But it was serious situation. I think Jack did good. Except when he tried to handcuff Robbie, that seemed to be little hard for Jack (first time handcuffing someone?)

agree with all the comments about Jack seeming to love doing the arrests.

Jane, the reason he manhandled the backpack is he was checking to see if the little girl was in it.  they had that discussion at the station "is it big enough to hold a child."

I know why it was done.  But when it was clear that the kid wasn't in the bag it should have been put back together or something.  Maybe someone came back behind them and picked it all up and zipped it back up. But it seemed like they just walked off and left his stuff on the ground.  Maybe I'm remembering it incorrectly.

what domino and Jozie said so much better than I.

This arrest did have a bit of an inexperienced yet enthusiastic feel to it.

Also, when he was walking with the other policeman to the car, Jack was quite swaggery.  He definitely has a bit of macho-ism around the uniforms.

would it be fair to say that even at this early stage it becomes clear Jack is not only intuitive, he is impulsive.. if he gets a hunch he pursues it doggedly...

Also, remember Jane, Robbie had already been convicted of killing a child.  Jack (and I'm sure anyone else) would have no respect for his stuff.  The uniform officer would have grabbed it all, probably to check for evidence, but really why should they be concerned about any damage to his property.  Police officers go about searches quickly, trying to get the clues and evidence they need.  They deal with the red tape later.

It still bothers me.  It turned out in the end he did nothing wrong.  It's just a personal pet peeve.

lots of scenes here, but they seem to fit together

Scenes 31, 34, 35, 37, 39, 40, 42, 44

Toby's abuse is discovered, Jack and Martha interview Fiona grandma, Jack interviews Laurie (20 mins)

Scene 31. 19.44-20.03

Martha comes into the main office, tells Jack and Charlie that Robbie has told her he thought something may have happened to Hope, so it may not just be a missing child case but she may be very hurt.

Scene 34: 21.13-21.46

Jack, Charlie and Martha are in the main office, Charlie tells them that the blood on the t shirt is a positive match for Toby Wilkins and shows the photos of cigarette burns and bruising on Toby's body. Jack points out, "Laurie smokes" but Charlie responds "yeah but the age of the oldest bruising coincides with when Rachel came back into their lives, don't you think that's quite significant"

 Scene 35: 21.47-22.21

Jack and Martha interview grandmother Fiona. Jack shows her the photos of Toby's burns and asks her how she missed them. She said she didn't know about them and becomes visibly upset. Martha informs her she is no longer an appropriate adult to accompany Toby during the interviews.

Scene 37: 22.40-23.35

Jack interviews Laurie. He begins apparently calmly, asking him about how he puts cigarettes out, then shows him the photos of Toby, one by one, and it becomes clear he suspects Laurie and is silently simmering.

Scene 39: 23.50-24.08

Back in the other interview room Jack asks Laurie "are you responsible for Toby?"

Laurie reiterates what he said earlier about Toby staying with his mother without his permission "and this is exactly what I was afraid of"

Scene 40: 24.25-24.35

Back in the other interview room with Jack and Laurie. Laurie continues to try to convince Jack Rachel is an unfit mother, with a  "history".

Scene 42: 24.50-25.31

Back with Laurie and Jack. Laurie tells Jack "you better not come near me for quite some time. ok?"

Jack, who has remained quiet while Laurie has ranted, replies

"Ok. What worries me you see Laurie, from my point of view, is that not once, have you asked how Toby is after this" before walking out and slamming the door

 suspectsep1-21 - Copy.jpg

Scene 44: 27.34-28.57

Jack is back in the interview room with Laurie

"What have you done with Hope"

"You physically and verbally abuse your son Toby, what's to say you haven't physically and verbally abused your daughter, who is now missing. Where is she Laurie"

Laurie denies all and says she must be with that "pervert who works in the off license" and why aren't the police questioning him?

Jack replies that he is in custody and they have questioned him, and he says that he called the house last night

Laurie becomes irate that they "believe a convicted child killer above the girl's father"

Jack tells him "I don't believe a word that comes out of your mouth"

Laurie becomes even more angrily and Jack raises his voice in response

"why are you stalling Laurie, why aren't you answering any of my questions I am trying to find your daughter and you're giving me nothing, ok?"

Laurie apologises and says he is stressed is trying to find his daughter too but he doesn't know where she is. Jack walks out slamming the door.
