UJ, hadn't thought about an amalgamation of characters, but totally possible. And fifi, absolutely right about not needing to fit physical descriptions. That's why I have my money on Trellick...

The fact that there is already a stellar cast attached, with the characters they are playing known, but with some of Stelfox's main 'group' as yet not announced, leads me to believe that Damien will be playing one of them, an already existing character from the book and not a random / tiny one. (if that makes any sense at all).
Stumbled across this video of an interview with Ria Zmitrowicz who will be in the film (interestingly not mentioned on imdb cast list)
Damien Molony – Drama Centre London’s 2011 nominee is currently shooting feature film Kill Your Friends, alongside Craig Roberts and Nicholas Hoult, and also starred as Hal inBeing Human, and Det. Con. Albert Flight in Ripper Street.
It really is lovely to see this....but I must admit that I found myself thinking - I know he was Hal in Being Human...and Det Con. Albert Flight in Ripper Street - but who is he in Kill Your Friends?! Why won't anybody tell us?!!
I knooow! But, it was a while before we knew Damien's character in Ripper Street if you recall. The powers that be clearly would prefer we didn't even know he was cast yet! why I do not understand .. promotion / all discussion / excitement is a very good thing! But... I do feel more sure now that Damien is playing one of the mainish 'group', which are all still minorish roles but not just cameos.
An A&R man working at the height of the Britpop music craze goes to extremes in order to find his next hit. Starring Nicholas Hoult, Tom Riley, Craig Roberts and Damien Molony, with casting by Colin Jones.
Agree, this list is all kinds of awesome. So this is actual official confirmation... of possibly good sized role...

The Spotlight article from 29th May (my last but one post) was perhaps more confirmation... as it was purely about DaMo. And yes.... the way both articles are written does suggest , in my mind, that it is possibly one of the main group roles!
When Damien or Spotlight update his Spotlight page, we will know the character for sure
I agree that these articles both suggest that Damien has a main cast role - as he so totally should have - but I presume his inclusion in this list is because they are all represented by Spotlight. It's frustrating that they finished filming so long ago, and Spotlight have now published 2 articles linking Damien to the film, but it's still not listed on his Spotlight profile page.....
I finally finally managed to finish the book now. Liked it a lot :)
So it is not announced yet which character he plays? Stange. How reliable is the imdb list then? Or is there a cast list on an official page (maybe I missed it)?
Agree with you Jozie, they like to keep us guessing!
Tina, anyone can contribute to IMDb, but the info is generally reliable and there is no official cast list anywhere yet. The film will be released in spring next year so perhaps a little premature for that at this time.
So... anyone else having a guess at who DaMo is playing? if you read back in this topic, you will see the guesses of others!
Ok.. so they wanted Hugh Grant to play Stelfox? whhhhat? so glad they didn't go for that and remained true to their vision for the film.
So we now know Rosanna Arquette as a cameo role. Check.
There is a 1990s gig filmed in the Electric Ballroom. Damien filmed in the Electric ballroom. going to read the book again for uk gig mentions and characters!
And excellent article, thanks for that, domino. Writing interesting but not especially likable characters has been the bane of my existence. Give me interesting but understandable characters and I'm in. I get the need for likable. It does add that extra dimension. Being able to root for someone does add that emotional connection, fair enough. And it's great to feel good after all. But the interesting ones will keep me hanging on, keep me thinking, stimulate me, that is, keep me interested and focused, thinking about what the film's about. So, hello! Give me interesting.

Great article! Hugh Grant as Stelfox? No!!! Just no!! - they obviously didn't get it!
WARNING - THERE MAY BE SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
Stelfox is undoubtedly a loathsome charater, but he certainly is a good read. And if he hadn't got away with it at the end of the book - and, indeed, got his reward - I think I'd have been disappointed! I don't doubt that if a present day sequel was written then his life wouldn't exactly have turned out well....
Lol fifi not only did they not get it but they underestimated other actors who would be as much of a draw if not more than Hugh Grant and wayyy more appropriate! (maybe stick big spoilers about storyline in the spoiler tags?)
Stelfox is an anti hero with few redeeming qualities so it is a huge achievement having the audience of the book connecting to the material at all. I do think it will not be for some peoples' tastes this film, so it is not going to be like an international mainstream uber blockbuster but it will be hugely popular and have that cult film status.
After mention of Rosanna Arquette's character in a cameo role it did make me wonder about Damien's role, but I am still thinking he has to be in the mainish group surrounding Stelfox, some of which haven't yet been named in imdb cast list.
Kill Your Friend's cast list has gotten filled in some more.
First of all, GRRRRRRRR, Damien's like the only one left without a character name. I swear the universe is in a conspiracy to keep us Damo fans from ever getting what we want.
Second of all, Joseph Mawle as Trellick??? He makes less sense in that role than Damien does (which was my guess).

Damien totally doenst fit the spec for Trellick but as you say Joseph Mawle less so!
and now Damien is the only actor with no casting info! how to keep a whole fandom guessing!
So, back to my original guesses for Damien:
domino wrote:
Trellick - legal, blond, tall toff (doesnt fit the physical spec)
Ross - head of marketing 30s (possible)
Leamington - A&R man at Virgin (possible)
Ladbroke - very minornot much known about him, but he was present at a dance scene where air guitar was played! (possible)
Rob Hastings - A&R man works with Stelfox , thin, scruffy, stoner (possible)
Schneider - Head of A&R, Hastings & Stelfox boss (described as jewish version of Trellick) (older - may not fit the spec, could this be Jospeh Mawle?)
But cross off Trellick and Joseph Mawle for Schneider!!
Another thought occurred to me last night, we have seen Damien's impressive sideburns from when he was filming.. what if he is not playing any of those characters at all, but a famous Britpop dude from the era? (known for their impressive sideburns!)
