OH MY GOD. What the heck did he sign up for?! It sounds surreal and possibly demented, just from reading that writeup. Please please please HBO commission this like NOW!

Well, well, well... Robert, what are you going to get up to?!

The Devil You Know is an experiment, its own beast, wild and provocative, a show about townspeople discovering a new world, through a female perspective. I don’t think there is anything like it on TV right now. It’s very different from what Jenji Kohan did before. It’s tantalazing and exciting. What is HBO waiting for to order it? It needs to be on air as soon as possible!
Frikkin awesome is what it sounds like Damien signed up for!
And..... I was thinking Robert Putnam might be the one being referred to here?!!!
Spoiler
Ann, a 15 year-old girl (who is the closest to a heroin) is giving a handjob to a young man to make him testify in favor of her father, who happens to have a conflict with the richest man of the town
Because, his father Thomas is famously the arch enemy of Israel Porter, whose daughter was accused in the witch trials...
I love how this has us all using the spoiler tags!
Very glad to read this:
Jenji Kohan’s no-so-secret weapon might be her very distinctive female voice. HBO is more of a male-oriented channel, with a few exceptions. That’s how it is. The Devil You Know is definitely a provocative drama that put women at the center of it all. Some of them take drugs. Others are in cage. Most of them FEEL caged. They don’t sell weeds and they don’t wear orange jumpsuit, but they are not that different from Nancy Botwin or Piper Chapman. They are their ancestors. They were there at the beginning of the new world and damn, they suffered
(Not the suffering but, but the femal voice bit).
And going back to my last post, Thomas Putnam had a daughter Ann, so it's not Robert being described here:
Spoiler

no domino, that can't be the incident referred to in the pilot.
Spoiler
Robert and Ann are siblings, hence my mentioning the incest referred to in the article. The specific scene they describe is Ann persuading a stranger to support her father. I'm pretty sure Robert would be on their side.
Kallie, I can't ever resist spoilers! I have to have instant gratification. But I'm ok with that. I sure hope that you would/will be able to see it. But you make a good point about getting hopes up. After all, it hasn't been officially confirmed. But still, how could it not with such an incredible cast, such a sought after writer (and director) and such a boundry-pushing, female-centric, polarizing take on the genre? It's really on par with the ground breaking trends in television in the past few years. We don't want to be spoonfed safe, dull, drama anymore. We want to see risks taken, stereotypes turned on their heads, fresh ways of telling tried and true stories. I'm trying not to be , but failing miserably.

Agree Rosie!
whimsy, yes I dont think it's him.. didn't read it properly first time through in my excitement at finding it. But I actually hope that Robert is not on his Father's side...
Kallie, your restraint is admirable!
That sounds awesome! So what are we waiting for??!? I need this on my tv like....now!
"Like her characters, she’s unconventional. She can take all the time she needs to set-up the atmosphere -and Gus Van Sant, who directs, is not exactly known to rush things either- HBO will trust her anyway. So the pilot works more as an introduction to all the characters, so we can care about them quickly and I assure you we do, than an actual pilot that builds toward a momentum and gives us a real sense of what the show will be in subsequent episodes."
I do like a drama with engaing characters....... !
The same thought occurred to me. Brownie points for spelling his name correctly! Lol

Good heavens, this is completely unexpected! I thought it was going to be a more restrained version of "Salem" but it looks as though it is more of the same but without the supernatural element.
I wonder if we will be able to see it here in the UK.
What is the avenue for HBO shows to be shown in the UK? You don't get HBO directly, right? As I understand it, Sky is a premium channel, are there others?
I feel that if this show happens, there likely will be negotiations for rights for the UK as well since so many cast members are from over there and very popular.

They tend to be shown on various channels. Sky has all the money so tends to buy things first and then other channels might show them a couple of years later.
I have just had an update on my Smart TV and another link has appeared for Wuaki TV which has HBO programmes on it (and BBC etc) so I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will be on there eventually. I have joined it (no fee) and will use it now and then. You pay for what you watch.
