Alternatively, in terms of TV land, if this is going to happen it'll happen this year (filming at least!) which is a hell of a lot less long than waiting for films!?
It's absolutely incredible how far he's come! He's on a bloody good roll!! The lad will be winning oscars and further awards thrashing Benedict Cumberbatch's bottom in no time. ahah :) I get really Excited when I know Damien will be back on the TV!
Its great to hear this talked about even if it is quite briefly. And focusing on humàn frailty - thats a nice little insight into the angle of it.
So....Robert Putnam isn't a real historical figur?. That's interesting. There's got to be some particular reason for creating an additional member of the family....hasn't there?
First of all, James Marsters is AMERICAN??? Holy cow, I never knew that! I only remember him in Buffy, Angel, Torchwood, Caprica, and Supernatural, and if memory serves he had an American accent in just one of those. I assumed that was him acting! LOL
All the info on the Salem witch trials lists Thomas (who is Thomas Putnam Jr btw), his wife Anne, and the daughter Anne who did most of the accusing during the trials. The little family tree on Wikipedia only shows them 3 of his direct family members. But Thomas and Anne had 10 children! So, it's possible one was Robert. He just wasn't important enough to be mentioned in the history books!
The comment about the focus of the show being on human frailty, on how the town eats itself up, is consistent with actual historical account. Thomas Putnam had a half brother Joseph who inherited most of the family wealth.
Many believe that the motive behind the Salem Witch Trials was Thomas Putnam Jr. trying to get this property from his half-brother Joseph. It is said that during the witch hunt fury Joseph Putnam kept a horse saddled and a gun nearby in case authorities came for him.
From other articles I read, there were rivalries between Salem Town and Salem Village. So it sounds like it was a boiling pot of familial feuds and politics, mixed in with fear and superstitions. The reality of it is really sad, but should make for some good TV!

I heard James Marsters speak at DragonCon in Atlanta, Georgia one year. I remember his accent being more Southern. I guess maybe he's a bit of a chameleon and picks up the accents he's around.

Wasn't there a rumour that the Salem problem was that the girls who were accused had ingested tainted wheat? If I recall it was ergot poisoning causing hallucinations etc.
Glad you enjoyed it fifi, to hear the show being talked about for the first time was exciting to me too.
Good point about Robert Putnam whimsy! I just hope he's important enough to get some serious facetime in TDYK....
A very belated welcome to you Bill... I couldn't agree more, watching Damien's star continue to rise has been a delight (well deserved and more besides). And my mind is now filled with thoughts of Damien "thrashing Benedict Cumberbatch's bottom" !
Pearl that certainly rings a bell - one suggestion has been they were all just tripping on ergot! But, others have disputed the theory...
This HAS to get picked up! Definitely has amazing written all over it!

Did anyone see Eddie Izzard supporting the Scottish Labour leader yesterday? He was all decked out in dress, high heels, lipstick - the lot. Looked quite good really!
I've been following him on Twitter ever since they filmed the pilot. He's got quite a fashion sense! Makes me smile that he's Damien's "papa".

Eddie Izzard is so a multi-talented and an awesome human being. I'm excited Damien is in this new project, but even moreso about him working with such a mega cast, Eddie being the papa of them all.
I'm sure all of us are eagerly anticipating news on this project. I don't have any (sorry) but am keeping an eye out for any clues / news! (anyone else?)
So, in this interview yesterday, Zawe Ashton says the pilot is going to be aired, later this year!
"I also wrapped a pilot for HBO in March, directed by Gus Van Sant and co-written and executive produced by Jenji Kohan, called The Devil You Know, about the Salem witch trials, which will be airing later this year. It would be amazing if that got picked up, spending more time working Stateside would be tremendous."
