Oooo!! That's very interesting! There are some startling differences there. I'll need to come back to this when I've got time to do a proper comparison!
I quite like that New Zealand one, in particular how mystetious Hal looks. My favorites are the Series 5 ones for sure. Between the UK and US versions I can't decide. I like that the UK version is a montage of characters, with little nuggets from the episodes, like the jam and flaming orc, but I also like seeing bad Hal in that bloody vest (God I'm a weirdo!), the sense of action in that shot, and ghostly Alex. Series 4 covers are soooo bad in my opinion. Too stylized, they look nothing like themselves.

I'm not bowled over by either of the s4 ones. The UK one says cafe on the window, but it doesn't bear any resemblance to the cafe on the corner.... And the US one I keep looking at the full moon, looking at Tom, looking at the full moon...... I know it's only the DVD cover but he is a werewolf after all!
I love the s5 UK one - even though it is brown! I agree with whimsy that the little series pointers - like the flaming orc game and the blood flask in Hal's hand are a lovely touch....as is the presence of Rook, Hatch and Crumb - and the fact that they are obviously in the Hotel. It's also pretty special to me because I have two copies.....although somebody scribbled all over one of them.....!!
The individual images for the US series 5 are great but they just don't work together cohesively for me....and where are they supposed to be? Or am I being very pickey? For both of them the US versions obviously focus more on the horror - which I feel pretty amibalent about.
But I find the placement of the characters on the boxsets- the prominence they are given - really interesting! Especially the fact that Nina is tucked away at the back of all of them, even though she was in 3 whole series! It's quite right that Annie should have centre stage for s 1-4....she was in all four series after all. I do like way they are grouped for the s5 version....with Hal, Tom and Alex together - although lol that they've made Alex look so much shorter than Hal and Tom!
The NZ one is just weird though! Despite the fact that Annie was in 4 series - more than anyone else....and bridges the gap between the two sets of characters (the only 'person' to have appeared with all of them) she looks like a minor character - and George doesn't fare much better....whereas Alex is right up there! Must admit that l rather like the fact that Hal is half in shadow though....
Thanks for posting these domino! You don't happen to know what the US boxsets look like do you? Turns out I find it quite interesting.....lol!!

Unfortunately we don't have boxsets. I ordered one that was supposedly Region free, but it didn't work on my blu-ray and had the same picture of the UK boxset.

The S4 ones are just meh.

How dare they!

You're right, the US versions focus more on the the horror. That is one of the faults of the US remake as well. I guess you can't get Americans' attention without it! Which is a shame as the show is so much more about the ordinariness of the characters than the horror. Which the UK versions definitely convey better. However I do feel the US one's are less ambiguous in that respect. The adage "never judge a book by it's cover" is good advice, but let's face it, 95% of people will often do just that. We are drawn to more graphic/sensational things. My favorite thing about Being Human is the characters, but I confess I only started watching because it had vampires in it!
The S5 US one is from The Last Broadcast, when they come across the people who threw themselves "from the rooftops" (as an aside, I love how Hal emphasizes that line.) But clearly a composite of images.

Agree it's interesting what the marketing in different regions chose to highlight. It's criminal that Annie is delegated to the back in the NZ one! I like the ones where she is in the middle because as you say she bridges the gap between the old trio and the new. I have a special place in my heart for Hal-Annie-Tom, though when I think of Annie's trio I think of Mitchell & George. Nina always felt like a minor character to me even though she is in 3 series simply because the premise always felt like 1 ghost-1 vampire-1 werewolf. She is an integral part of the story from the beginning, but I always felt she unbalanced it slightly. I know that sounds silly.
