Dude. This is getting intense! Danny gets a little tough, which looks good on him.

Lots of DaMo with the face and voice and manner that gets my heart every time! Clean Break is giving him a chance to shine in all sorts of ways. Vulnerable, moral, conflicted, tough, broken...Danny Dempsey is such a great role!

Years ago, okay decades ago, I read an excellent book about a young man trying to become a good boxer. It was called 'The Contender.' A line in it said something to the effect that in order to be a boxing contender a man had to be comfortable hurting another man for the sake of his own gain. Not just for the sake of self-defense or to protect himself, but to gain an advantage beyond the immediate.
I know there's a boxing culture in the community in Clean Break. But not everyone is in that boxing club, and not everyone who is will excel. In order to be a world-class boxer, Danny Dempsey has to be willing to inflict pain for the sake of his own gain. Let's not forget that about Danny, no matter how cute and vulnerable he may be.

I am so enjoying this series. It is a perfect vehicle to show off Damien's acting skills, and such tremendous skills they are. Just compare him in this with Jack Weston, Albert Flight or Hal Yorke. Four completely different characters. He deserves all the praise he can get.

That was intense!  This series is totally absorbing.....even though I'm only watching it on my tablet I'm being completely drawn into it.  But I still feel non the wiser as to what's really going on behind it all.  I'm starting to wonder just how much is going to be revealed next week - how much are we really going to find out about who's pulling whose strings?......especially if they're hoping for another series....

Quote of the series so far from Jenny Rane this week: "I love his face".......!  Gotta say Amybeth continues to impress.

It was super intense fifi.. and especially the end!

The series arch is a deliciously sunspenseful slow burner - which paradoxically seems on the one hand to reveal nothing new yet at the same time there are too many new thingsbeing revealed all the time to fully take in... it's subtle yet full on... clever clever clever !
I may not manage a review of this one, because every time I try to think about it my mind is tied up in knots... a sign of the ever increasing plot circles methinks! Brilliant.

And I know i say this every week but by god the photography is breathtaking. I hope this series gets the credit it deserves for its artistry on every level.

The town is such a huge character in the drama.. the whole tone and flavour would be different without the framing.

Yes! The town is a character, and the cinematography needs to be applauded! Even the interiors are beautifully laid out and filmed.

Good point TJ, you are right, this may be bias but particularly the interiors featuring the Danny Dempsey poster...

Which appeared several times in this episode... and has become quite symbolic....

There is a boxing culture in some areas of the city I live in now in England, TJ. I quite agree with the idea of someone being willing to hurt someone else, but they also have to be willing to get hurt themselves. The areas where boxing is popular are those which are more deprived and which have more crime. The boxers actually include one who was in the Olympics. The young men who box tend to not get into fights outside the ring and can even stop trouble in the local pub by just getting between two antagonists. Being in the boxing circuit keeps young men out of gangs and out of street fighting - the young son of my best friend in Ireland loved going into Limerick on a Saturday night for a "good punch-up", as they enjoyed a good fight. He wasn't part of a boxing club.

One thing I have noticed about Danny is lack of family - his family seem to be the members of the boxing gym rather than blood relatives,  which makes me wonder about his background.  We've heard no mention of any parents or siblings. It could just be an attempt to stay out of trouble rather than inflicting pain for gain.

Thank you Ellie for bringing this up, I wonder if he does have any family left or have they cut their relationship with Danny after what happen in Olympics.. Or did Danny cut his relationship with his relatives because of the shame what happened..
