I finally saw this film. First of all I have to say that I was not sure if I would like to see this movie. I imagined something very different. But I did not deal with the movie before. And, because I'm only here for a short time, I have not waited for it as long as you all.

I had bought it at Amazon on DVD and I saw an opinion that said the Irish accent is so bad that you can hardly understand it.

So I was now curious and wanted to just take a quick look (my husband has been waiting for me in the garden) whether it works with the subtitles.

But when the film started I could not stop anymore. I have now also read what you wrote and can agree with it. I sat on the edge of my sofa thinking all the time: what is that? Rarely have passed 90 minutes so fast. I have not expected a psychological thriller. That's why the movie took me completely. The performances of Damien and Brian I consider absolutely fantastic. The end I did not expect at all, but for this movie it is a worthy end. I could not get him out of my head for many days.

As Domino already said: There is a pain in my heart still. Not because of the outcome, but because of the journey, the revelations, the sadness.. for them all.

This is exactly what I've felt. I also think that it was right that Shadha Paddy shot to be free. But just like Fifi says, at what price? How bad must Paddy have been that he has pushed Shadha so far to do something like that??

I am very impressed with the film, the actors, the story and the wonderful pictures.

It sure is an intense and indelible film Sana, really glad you found a way to watch it. Yes, for me because Paddy's darkness is more insidiously revealed in the latter part of the film, in contrast to Joe, who was clearly troubled (understatement) from the start, it sits more disturbingly and deeply, for longer.Thank you for sharing your vote in the poll and your reactions to the film, hopefully it will inspire others to also

I just managed to catch up with this on DVD so I've had a read through the thread now and there are some cracking reviews - not sure I can add much.

I'm still digesting but overall I found it thought-provoking, beautifully shot, great performances from the main cast, wonderful soundscape. I think its roots in theatre were showing (not at all a bad thing in my book - it was almost certainly behind the focus on character-driven action).

Any thoughts on why the two deleted scenes included as extras on the DVD were deleted? I'm guessing a limit on runtime for some reason although it didn't feel overly long at all and they wouldn't have added much. I thought both added something in terms of both tone and clarity. Tone-wise, although there is dark humour pretty much throughout, these two were probably the funniest sequences. The semtex scene also established more of a direct connection between Paddy and the unseen Dave than was apparent elsewhere - that link was important for how things eventually played out. The Vatican scene also made the influence and significance of religion that bit more clear, too.

I think I'll be rewatching in the not too distant future to see what I missed the first time, I feel like there are layers of stuff to excavate and ponder.
