Posting this for our international members!

Video interview with Kate Barnes from ITV Studios, who are responsible for international distribution of Brassic.

"We've got a lot of big shows that we're working on at the moment, one of them is Brassic, which is a show that we are working with a producer outside of ITV, Calamity Films. It's for SKY, it's written by Danny Brocklehurst and co-created with Joseph Gilgun and it's absolutely an amazing series and I personally am very passionate about it and want as many people [as possible] to find it, to appreciate it, all over the world."

Really good news for worldwide audiences fingerscrossed

Click the link below for the video, the Brassic part is at the 1.09 mark

Kate Barnes on Brassic, The Virtues and ITVSGE global strategy

I hope this is heartening news! You never know, the international availability may end up bigger than the UKl where it is only available to SKY and NOW TV subscribers.

August is nearly here and that means BRASSIC!

Attention UK peeps who do not have Sky - Brassic will also be on NOW TV which does not require a Sky subscription.

NOW TV have a free 7 day trial on their entertainment pass (which is what you need to watch TV shows) and this can be cancelled at any time before you pay the £7.99 per month for that package. We've read that all eps of Brassic will be available at once, so technically with a free 7 day trial you could watch all of Brassic for free!

Love that they had the mini horse at the launch! (not sure it is a shetland pony, but that is what Damien mentioned in an interview when he was talking about a scene!) Wonder if it is the actual pony we saw in the trailer?

Lots of great Brassic posts from the event and since!

Brassic is kicking off! So exciting!

Joe Gilgun was on Virgin Radio this morning, great interview. Chris Evans has seen the first 2 episodes of Brassic and was so passionate about it, he really raved about it. You can listen to the show here

Chris Evans said all of this and I am even more excited for Brassic now!

"It’s so tight, it’s not too fast for itself… I don’t know how some shows can get everything right, the script, the characters, the actors, the scenes, the locations, the cultural references, the pathos and the absolute, all out humour.. everything about this is.. no scene is a second too long, a second too short, nothing is played for laughs, because it it’s being played for laughs it’s not funny, you can believe everyone. Basically these characters are all mates, they are thieves (but if you actually look, I watched the first episode twice, you see so much more in the second watching because you’re so blown away by a scene, you’re recovering from the last scene and miss quite a lot of the next one) and I feel this is Robin Hood, because they only nick from people who are horrible, like the Shetland pony is stolen from a gangster, a millionaire gangster, they don’t know he’s a millionaire gangster and he puts a contract out on their lives … and it’s just mental, it’s brilliant"

"I think this will be the most talked about show in Great Britain… if this works in North America these guys are going to be huge, huge stars. It’s a bit Lock Stocky, it’s a lot ‘Withnail and I’, it’s quite ‘Auf Wiedersehen Pet’ in parts as well. It’s just, it’s just fantastic"

"It’s got a bit of ‘Withnail and I’, doesn’t get any better, it’s got a bit of ‘Shameless’, doesn’t get any more original, it’s got a bit of ‘Auf Wiedersehen Pet’, doesn’t get any more heartfelt… it’s even got a bit of ‘Last Of The Summer Wine’ in it.. it’s got a bit of Emmerdale when it was really good in it, it’s got a bit of Grange Hill in it, it’s got quite a lot of ‘Only Fools and Horses’ in it. It’s got no actual jokes but it’s just funny from beginning to end, but the character who are so outrageous and extreme are believable.. it’s gold, it’s not episodic in that you’re not going what’s happens next, you don’t mind what happens next."

From Joe Gilgun's Interview

Chris E: What about Dylan?

Joe G: He’s the most handsome member of the cast our Dylan

Chris E: He’s the most lost isn’t he

Joe G: He’s got a bit IQ Dylan, he’s middle class and he’s kind of no excuse to be doing what he’s doing, I think the reason he does it is because he quite likes it and the self destruct with him

Chris E: He’s co-dependent with Vinnie

Joe G: Absolutely he is, I think he’s become used to being Vinnie’s crutch and doesn’t quite know.. it’s not a healthy side to the relationship I think, they both very much rely on each other

Chris E: Yeah, Vinnie doesn’t want to dominate him, but they’re in love with other aren’t they

Joe G: They really are yeah, and I have friendships like that, my mate Quail, I love my mate Quail, we fall out all the time

"He's the most handsome member of the cast our Dylan"

New piece in the Radio Times about Brassic!

When is Brassic on TV? Who is in the cast and what is it about?

There is nothing we don't know already, but love this image and also we learn a little about Dominic West and Ruth Sheen's roles.

Brassicradiotimes3.jpg

Also, here is an edited version of Joe Gilgun's Virgin Radio interview, shame they cut the part about Dylan being the most handsome member of the cast! (full interview here, you have to listen to a couple of hours before getting there!)

More Brassic press today!

It's the cover story of Sunday World Magazine, with interviews with Damien, Michele Keegan and Joe Gilgun.

I bought the digital copy!

Love how Michelle calls Damien 'DaMo'

We have heard about the now famous Damien / Mich Keeg portaloo sex scene before, but this interview is new!

I've zoomed on DaMo's interview

The same piece, by Kevin Palmer, is also in the Irish Independent today!

Another attention grabbing headline!

brassicirishindependent.jpg

AS introductions go, Damien Molony's first morning working with Michelle Keegan could not have been more revealing.

Moments after the Kildare-born actor was introduced to the stunning actress, who shot to fame in Coronation Street, he found himself filming a sex scene with her - a scene that offered quite an opening for the brilliant new Sky One comedy-drama Brassic.

"I had only met Damo for a few minutes and then we were simulating sex together," says Keegan (32), struggling to contain her joyous embarrassment as she spoke to Magazine+ at a London hotel.

"To be fair, it breaks the ice pretty quickly with someone you don't know. It was a case of 'Nice to meet you, let's get our clothes off and go!'

"Anytime you do a sex scene with a room full of people shouting instructions, it's going to be ridiculous, but that's part of the job and you have to just get on with it.

"I have done a few of them down the years and they are just weird. You just have to accept it for what it is and get on with it and when you look at it in the show now, it's actually quite funny."

Molony's up-close-and-personal introduction to one of Britain's highest-profile actresses must have been an eye-opener, with the actor - who has seen his profile rise after his starring role in Channel 4 show GameFace - admitting he had an awkward conversation with his parents ahead of filming.

"To start with, there is never anything sexy about doing a scene like that as there are so many people in the room, none of them want to be there and they all want to get it done as quickly as possible so they can go and eat lunch," he told us.

"The actors are terrified and nervous, but the truth is no one else cares. You just get on with it and it is such a ridiculous scenario to be doing that with someone you don't know.

"My parents rang me up that morning and we were chatting about what I was doing that day. Normally you can tell them what you are doing, but this time it felt different.

"What do you say? I'm pretending to have sex in a portaloo with Michelle Keegan. What is great about the Brassic sex scenes is there is absolutely nothing sexy about them and that certainly helped.

"You won't get a chance to be in something this good and this funny too often in your career.

"Once I saw this script, I was desperate to do it and the cast we have in Brassic are so good that it had to be a success. We spent five months in Manchester filming and it was such great fun."

Brassic is a raw comedy set in northern England with a wonderfully edgy twist, with Manchester native Keegan playing the role of responsible mother Erin who tries to keep her man Dylan (played by Molony) in check as he is led astray by the unpredictable Vinnie, played by the irrepressible Joe Gilgun, who was the driving force behind a comedy that is certain to capture the imagination of Irish and British audiences.

For Molony, his casting in Brassic offered up another test of his linguistic skills as he was asked to perfect a Lancashire accent while surrounded by locals who felt right at home in a comedy that was filmed in Chorley, Lancashire.

"You do have to work on getting an accent right for something like his, but being around Joe and Michelle all the time helped me," Damien told us. "When we are not filming, Joe is talking a mile a minute and when you are around that every day, you start to pick up the accent and are constantly being refreshed.

"Dylan was a great character to play. He loves Erin and their little boy so much, but he also cares so much for Vinnie and is worried about how that will affect him. He is a sensitive soul and doesn't want to let people down."

Molony's wonderful on-screen chemistry with his on-screen lover is a key part of the success of Brassic, with Keegan admitting the appeal of playing a hard-working mother with real ambition appealed to her from the moment she saw the script.

"When you see a programme on the working classes, the mother is cast in a bad light, but this is very different," she says.

"My character Erin is portrayed as a good mother, a strong woman who is driven to do well for herself and give her son the kind of upbringing she never had. That's really positive and one of the reasons why I wanted this role so much."

In case you missed the photos in the forum galleries, there was another Brassic screening and Q&A last night, this time in Manchester!

All the cast were there with Joe Gilgun and Danny Brocklehurst (co-creators) and the Q&A was hosted by Katy Rickitt.

Great photos from Getty and others there!

Again congrats to the whole team on the success of Brassic!

And to the person who came up with 'Brassic Fantastic' on Chortle!

highfive

brassicchortle.jpg

Sky One series Brassic has become the channel’s highest-rated comedy show in more than seven years.

More than 1.6million viewers have watched the opening episode in the first seven days, making it the biggest launch since Ruth Jones’s Stella in 2012.

All six episodes have also been released on Now TV, and been downloaded 3.5 million times.

Co-created by writer Danny Brocklehurst and actor Joseph Gilgun, who co-stars with Michelle Keegan  –  Brassic is produced by Calamity Films, who have already been commissioned to make a second series, which has just started filming.

Chief executive David Livingstone, said; ‘We’re delighted that audiences have embraced Brassic. The incredible stories behind this motley crew of friends, so expertly crafted by Joe and Danny, have been a total joy to bring to life, and we’re hugely proud of the show.

‘And with series two currently in production, we can’t wait to share more of their story.’
