I confess, my agenda was to have a reason to bump this topic up, to bring one of Damien's earlier film works to the attention of new fans who may not have seen it.... before he makes his debut in his first full length feature films next year!
I LOVE this one. I love it a lot more than the other. I found it so intense. (I guess you could read, Damien is so intense!) And I love how much it relies on Damien. A very powerful atmosphere and it really expresses something. I have such a sense of both the character and his Father... and something both of their art and what they are/were to each other... even though you don't even see the art, or any of their actual relationship, or barely the Father! LOVE THIS. I think this film shows Damien's talent very well. All it is is one conversation, focussed on his face and silent scenes. I LOVE IT!
littleimpulse - I am so glad you found your way here! This little film is such a treat. And it's impact is huge considering how short it is - 'intense', 'powerful' and 'expressive' sum it up very nicely...... every time I watch it I feel like I've been holding my breath for the whole 9 minutes!
That Gustavo Santaolalla track is incredibly atmospheric - I've heard snippets of it pop up from time to time in various things.....and it always brings me straight back here to Billy - specifically the shot of him standing on the station platform from some reason!
Taking a visit back to things like this is brilliant! Really helps see just how far Damien has come and his development as an actor. I feel like a dad watching my son grow up! lol :')
Just stumbled on this on youTube and seeing as the topic hasn't been bumped for a year or so, I thought I'd bump it in case anybody else "needs" to watch! I'll pop the link in to save searching back through the thread in case that's helpful.
I thought this was a lovely visual equivalent to a short story, complete with perfect last line. For a student piece, it was beautifully shot (I'd have liked different lighting for some shots but I'm guessing resources were pretty minimal) and the brooding intensity worked really well with the subject matter.
Isn't it great to have early stuff like this available to us - hooray for video platforms! Really interesting to see the early stages of an actor's development and easy to see so much potential there - more roles so we see more of it, please!
Took me a while to understand the reference Ripcurlgirl it's been a while since visiting this film, and forum thread, but then remembered "soon to be the world's own Harrison Ford" is in the description.. Yes, Ian McKellen... who he has worked with of course. Both comparisons to 2 legendary and aspirational actors are flattering, and Damien's range and breadth of experience onstage and screen warrant it. (still waiting for IndiDaMo Jones to take us on an epic adventure!) But he has also continued to forge his own path as an actor, no comparisons needed.
