I just found out yesterday that a UK satellite channel will be showing series 2 and 3 of 'White Collar'.

I saw the first series via Bravo channel in the UK and instantly loved it. Then Bravo was closed down and it was supposed to go to Sky Living, they repeated half of the first series and then dropped it and no other channel showed the rest of the series or later ones, despite its popularity in the US. Finally Alibi Channel in the UK announced that it has acquired the rights to show series 2 and 3 and hopefully 4. Can't wait, i have really missed this programme.

Supernatural finally begins to air the seventh series on August 1st. I'm sure we in the UK are the last country in the world to see this. I choose not to download so it has been especially frustrating.

Not sure if anyone would be interested but I've been thinking...considering how many shows don't get more than a season (or less) before they're cancelled, which show would you consider in the category of

a.) good or even great show that was cancelled prematurely

and on the other hand which show would you consider to have

b.) outstayed its welcome

For me Firefly would definitely fall into the first category. As for the second, I shall reserve judgement till the seventh season but currently I wish they had ended Supernatural after the fifth season.

What do you think? Any hidden gems or interesting shows that never got a chance to shine or at least to explore their full potential?

I can't help thinking I am missing so much by not having SKY!!

Good question Black Dwarf..the only one that comes to mind right now for category a) is The Fades? i quite liked it but felt it could improve with furthering the storylines..and was quite surprised when it was not recommissioned. BUT given the choice between that and Being Human? no contest!

 Very good question!!!!

I think a show that was cancelled too soon was this show called The Gates. It was really good and only made it half-way through the first season! It even ended on a clif hanger so we will never know what happens!! (Its on Netfilx if you care to have a watch!!)

a show thats been aroud too long? I'd have to say Grey's Anatomy, just because they are starting to stretch things abit too much and a chunk of the original cast is gone! (not as well pulled off as Being Human by any means!!) also i think they should have ended American Idol 4 seasons ago. I dont know anyone who still watches it!

@Sami: Yes, the Gates. I remember watching that and being very disappointed that the show was cancelled. Thought it had a lot of potential and interesting characters.

Gosh, where to begin? I watch a lot of telly. Always in search of a good story.

I enjoy Game of Thrones. Am a big fan of the books. I wonder how the show's going to manage as things get ever more complicated. Season 2 was already beginning to struggle with Dani's story.

I love Sherlock. I enjoyed the first series, appreciated it, but I suddenly fell in love with the second series. I have to say, as much as I grew to enjoy Andrew Scott's Moriarty, I really didn't care for it at first. I didn't see what was so scary about a guy throwing all his toys out the pram. A friend put it best - her idea of Moriarty was never going to be an evil Graham Norton. But it's only the swimming baths scenes I don't care for. Loved Scott's performance in The Reichenbach Fall. And I loved Sherlock's sacrifice at the end - not his life (because he's not dead) - but his beliefs, his method, his reputation. They always meant more to him than his physical life.

Love True Blood - except for season 4. Fiona Shaw was wasted, but then, so were the main characters. Bill, Sookie and Eric didn't do anything. Oh yeah, they had sex. And that was it. Naked Eric, lovely treat, but not an actual story line. Bill was knee deep in vampire politics and it was barely touched on. Hope things get back into shape next season.

My sister turned me onto Supernatural. Love 1-5, thought I didn't care for it so much with season 6, but that season comes across so much better on dvd, watching it properly rather than on the internet (since Sky Living has lost all interest in it). I was surprised to find season 6 so strong after my initial impression.

I loved season one of Glee, still enjoy it. Smash was very good, but I'd prefer it if they dropped some of the more soapy aspects.

I got into Merlin very late but now enjoy it. Hope it gets its humour back though.

Peep Show, Alan Partridge, The Thick of It, Yes Minister, Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory are my favourite comedies - and Monty Python, of course. And Spaced.

Freaks and Geeks! Discovered this very late. Possibly one of the best shows ever made. Want to make a show about fourteen year olds? Use actors who are fourteen years old!

Other older shows - Twin Peaks, Life on Mars. Hey, who remembers Ultraviolet and Odyssey 5?

Battlestar Galactica!

Love the panel shows - QI, Have I got News for You, Mock the Week, Buzz****s.

An Idiot Abroad. I used to listen to the Gervais/Merchant podcasts. Hysterically funny. (The Office, Extras, of course). Karl Pilkington is like an old fashioned village idiot - clearly an idiot, and he often speaks the truth.

Game Of Thrones I am not really getting it, is it the sex violence and use of the C word that works for everyone? all that would work so much better if there was something really epic about it too I love the concept but there is something lacking, for me!

Has anyone mentioned The Walking Dead in this thread yet? I have not seen it yet but love dystopian sci fi and have the opportunity to see it now from the first series...anyone recommend?

I agree with you on Game of Thrones Domino. I watched the first series & started the second but lost interest as it does just lack.....something.

I do watch The Walking Dead however. It can be a little slow going mid way through the first season but stick with it, it gets better. Also Andrew Lincoln is very watchable ;)

Yes I have to say I am curious to see Andrew Lincoln in an American production, Glad I am not alone on Game Of Thrones, the problem is Being Human sets such a high benchmark saturated with brilliance in every single moment, that everything else looks dilute and wishywashy in comparison! Really the only tv that has come any where near for me is Sherlock.

Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead are both on my watchlist because I really don't watch enough shows, only Being Human and Sherlock! Misfits is on the list too but first I'm going to try Teen Wolf :)

I do wonder how people who haven't read the Game of Thrones books take to the show. The books are truly epic. It's all about politics, with loads of sex and violence. Like I say, politics. The show is like a sprint through the books.

I enjoyed The Walking Dead. Nothing you haven't seen before (unless you haven't seen a single zombie in any form of media ever before) but very solid show. Well worth watching.

Doctor Who's another one I like, of course.

I'm tempted by Teen Wolf. If I get a chance I'll catch up with it.

I watched half of the first series of Game of Thrones. It is very well done, it has such a presence about it. I have a low attention span where television shows are concerned, i can lose interest very quickly. I did this with both GoT and The Borgias, beautifully lavish productions and i enjoyed them when they were on but i wasn't racing to watch them if you see what i mean.

Did i mention that i love Sherlock and Doctor Who also? I utterly adore Matt Smith as the Doctor, i loved David Tennant too but i adore Matt Smith.

I was on holiday last week so i have second episode of S7 Supernatural to catch up on as well as a few episodes of 'Sinbad' and other things. My children are on summer holiday at the moment which means that i can't catch up with my shows when i usually do (while they're at school!) as i record and watch everything that i like for later, it's rare i watch anything 'live'.

The new series of 'Inspector George Gently' is scheduled to begin on BBC1 on August 26th and Lenora Critchlow is scheduled to appear in one of them. So Wyndam and Annie will meet again! *grin*

Oh and 'Who Do You Think You Are' begins on Wednesday evening, i got into this genealogy show late and love it, i find it absolutely fascinating.

I think Matt Smith is my favourite 'new' doctor. The strength of the last season might have something to do with it.

I know what you mean about The Borgias, rubyrosettared. I enjoyed watching it, and it got better as it went along, and lounging on the sofa during a weekend, catching up on the sky box, may have contributed to my just getting on and watching it rather than my desperately wanting to see it.

And if I really love a show, I'd rather record it and watch it in peace, and wait til the series is over so I can watch it all in one fell swoop. Box sets made me get into watching tv this way. The story flows better.

Doctor Who is returning September 1st. Just very mildly excited :)

Watched the first episode of 'A Person of Interest' with Jim Caviezel and Michael Emmerson. It's interesting but hasn't quite grabbed my attention just yet. I'm under the impression that it's a slow burner of a show.

Did anyone see Parade's End last night?

I was expecting great things but had trouble getting into it, though I was thoroughly charmed by the last half and feel a sense of anticipation for the next episode. A magnificent star studded cast, gorgeous photography, amazing story and especially liked the 2 lead female characters - going against the stereotype, though differently to each other. Some of the comedy was brilliant too! In all though I was a smidgeon disappointed sad to say, but cannot put my finger on why. Maybe because it was Benedict Cumberbatch instead of Damien. Or maybe because it wasn't being Human

I'm looking forward to Parade's End. I'll record them all first and then watch them all together. DVDs have spoiled me. I try to watch everything like that. Stories flow better. And I'm perfectly happy to watch that Cumberbatch lad!

Anyone else been watching the BBC drama 'accused?' great cast again.

I think I may have mentioned it before - and I'm recording Accused as well. I've got quite a lot of catching up to do. Tonight I'm hoping to make a start on Once Upon a Time.

I am watching Parade's End. I started watching it not really knowing what to expect, the novels are no more been translated in Italian since 1963 and I must confess I'd never heard about them before no. Anyway I really liked it, especially how all the main characters are somehow flawed but still we can feel empathize for each of them. Stellar production values, too.

About Accused, I'll surely see the episode with Sean Bean ( lust) , and maybe if I like it will go on with the next ones  smile.

I caught up on Veep. It's exactly what it says on the tin, an American version of the excellent The Thick of it. Can't say I laughed out loud as often as I did with TToI, but highly enjoyable, funny stuff.

Have only just started watching Once Upon a Time. It's okay. I'm happy to watch a bit more. Robert Carlyle easily steals the few scenes he's in.
