Hold on, this isn't about Travelling Light - sorry!

I picked up a few dates while I was at the National last Tue.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time is being broadcast 6 Sep. I'm going to try to see that. I remember the book, charming and interesting.

Timon of Athens is broadcasting 1 Nov. Simon Russell Beale's in it, maybe you caught his Falstaff in the Hollow Crown.

The Last of the Haussmans is broadcasting 11 Oct. This is why I was at the Nat last Tue. Very funny, great cast - Julie Walters, Rory Kinnear and Helen McCroy. My only complaint is it's pretty shallow. What you see is pretty much what you get. But I'll be watching it again.

I know the Odeon show these broadcasts but I don't think they have the monopoly. I'm sure I saw ads at a Vue.

Hi UJ! lol you had me there!

Yes, we have a local arthouse cinema that broadcasts the all the NT Live performances, and will be showing all of these. I am so sad I wasn't able to see TL when it came. action

Finally saw The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. Brilliant stuff. I read the books years ago. I remember appreciating it but never connecting with it. Now I've seen this, I'm wondering I should read it again and pay attention this time. If an encore presentation pops up near you, I strongly recommend this.

Glad you enjoyed the broadcast UJ! I would love to go to all of these, but I am focussing on getting well enough to go see Damien in his next performance, whatever it will be!

Apparently (little bit of superstition wink) I'm going to see "Frankenstein" on 2nd or 3rd october right here in Genova, and that's a good thing smile... but I wonder: why why why no screenings for "Travelling Light" too? no

I am really happy for you Zia, I know your are a Benedict fan too Yes indeed, why no encore screenings for Travelling Light ?!! I know we discussed it in another part of the forum but this makes it even more frustrating, knowing that the live performances do exist on film!!

I can't understand why these live shows aren't on DVD. They must cost a lot to show, so why not record them. It's more revenue for the National Theatre too.

 Yes, it is really even more frustrating! Because, if it was just something performed in London, ok, it would be the same for me as if it was on the moon, I can't go and that's all. But knowing it *could* be possible, as it became possible for Frankenstein... crycrycry

ultimately it s not a live performance, but it would spread awareness and love for live theatre and exponentially increase interest and revenue in both areas!

Yep, they need to get permission rights for everyone involved. If everyone's agent is driving a hard deal after the fact, now they see how popular this has become, this could take a while.

Frankenstein gets more encore presentations ... Actually I think it's the only one that does. It was ruddy brilliant. And with Danny Boyle directing, and the rise of Benedict, it started off high profile and became more so.

ziadada, I hope you get to see both versions. It's so interesting seeing the different takes on the characters, but if you're limited to one, Benedict as the Creature is the one to go for.

I spotted that The National Theatre are doing some more of these live events when I was at the cinema at the weekend.

I would definitely recommend The Audience, which we saw at the theatre last month.

Excellent link, Prada. I hope to see Brannagh's MacBeth, and apparently David Tennant's Richard II will be broadcast on 13 Nov ... even though the run is due to start in Dec ... Okay then!

I have an app on my TV which has some of the National Theatre plays on there. Not Travelling Light unfortunately though!

I have a Samsung Smart TV and the app was on their list. It is called Digital Theatre. You can watch the trailers but have to buy the actual programmes separately. They have Macbeth, King Lear, The Merry Wives of Windsor, A Long Day's Journey, and various others with more added all the time.

The National Theatre is turning the Big 5-0 this year and they're celebrating with Encore performances galore!

As part of the NT celebrations, Hamlet with Rory Kinnear had an encore presentation.

It certainly looked like a fabulous production - but I'd be able to tell for sure if the signal/DVD didn't keep cutting out! Horrendous! Unacceptable! And it's not the first time it's happened. Had the same problem with Sondheim's Company when it was broadcast at the Vue at Westfield. This shouldn't happen! How is this happening? In future I will always go to the Odeon, Shaftesbury Ave, who, on three occasions, have had no problem showing NT broadcasts.

Anyway, I can see why RK is referred to as the 'comprehensible' Hamlet. He's the most likable I've seen, so I stayed on his side where other Hamlets seemed bratty and spoiled. Mind you, there are other aspects of the other Hamlets that I might prefer ... It's hard to say for sure when speeches get cut short thanks to technology! I hope I get to see it properly one day.
