aaww..thanks su. I'm really looking foward to meeting everyone, but must admit that I'm starting to feel a bit nervous already. Nervous, but extremely excited.......
Has anyone managed to find a play synopsis? I've never attended a play blind before. I only have the vaguest idea what this one is about.
Still kicking myself I didn't see Traveling Light. I saw Misterman twice at the same time it was on. That was an astonishing piece of theatre, I must say.
I saw Nine at the Donmar blind. Not a problem. Loved it. I think I knew less than I know about 'If You Don't Let Us Dream'. I'm happy, probably prefer, to know less and figure it out myself! It sounds very interesting, and I mean that as a compliment.

The first post in this topic gave the brief synopsis from the Royal Court site, Rougesang. Other than that I am with you UJ about not knowing more details of the play itself. However, I would like to know the name and brief outline of the character Damien will be playing.
I like to have a vague idea if only to reassure my theatregoing partner that he's not going to be bored out of his skull. I talked him into taking me to a play once and he hated it so much he vowed never go to with me again, haha. It pacifies him.
But you can never really know until you've seen it. High expectations have left me disappointed. Expecting rubbish, I've found myself pleasantly surprised. RougeSang, perhaps reminding your partner all theatre shouldn't be judged by one show might help. What did he see that put him off so?

Admittedly, what we saw was God-awful (was a production of an Irish play where neither performer was particularly convincing) and when I told him this one was 'without decor' he wasn't too impressed.
A couple of years ago I starting yearing for the theatre having not been for years. I haven't been as often as I would have liked, - although I have got tickets for Midsummer Nights Dream the day before I go to The Royal Court! - and haven't seen anything in it's first production (not professional, anyway!), and I'm really quite excited about the possibilities. I'm sure I will have seen some reviews before I go, but am quite happy to jump in blind.
I don't mind the element of surprise. He just likes to know what he's letting himself in for. He's the type who shook and poked his Christmas presents before he opened them. It doesn't make any difference, anyway, have already bought the tickets. But he stopped at the word 'economics' and groaned :) I'm trying to tell him it won't be some boring on-stage debate but he's convinced it will be now. Cynic.
I hope he'll be pleasantly surprised, RougeSang. I've been a little underwhelmed on a couple of occasions, and once something was so bad it was laughable (the only bad amateur production I've ever seen, I've seen some fabulous ones too). I've only ever wanted to walk out once, and that was the allegedly improved version of Martin Guerre. If I saw it after they fixed it, I hate to think what it was like when it started.
One of the few things I'm fussy about are theatre seats. I've sat in the gods for the cheapness a couple of times and never again! I feel disconnected at such a distance and it affects how I feel about the show.
Having economics in the description makes me want to see it more! I was once planning a story about bankers, so I'm curious to see how it's dealt with.

Under a month now for the opening of Damien's play ! February is going to be such a month for damien and his fans, with Being Human and If You Don't Let Us Dream!
hi all. just booked to go on 5th March...got the last ticket in the balcolny that wasn't restricted view so i can see the post show talk!! just have to book train tickets now - any ideas how long the play lasts. i assume it would be best to get the latest train after 11 pm so i can see the play, talk & maybe see Damien at the stage door as well!

Yay! Happy to hear you are going to see Damien's new play too Matty! We have a start time but that is all, but yes I would think you would need a train later than 11 pm if you are going to the post show talk! do you have to travel far?
Thanks domino, I must admit that due to the the imminent return of Being Human I'd almost forgotton about this (you don't really believe that, do you?).
If a political activist writes a play about capitalism, you can make a pretty good guess the direction it's going to take; but I thought it was a great interview, and I'm gratified to find that I agree with everything that Anders Lustgarten had to say. Interested to see the possible solutions which he intends to present in the second half......it's easy to see the problems, alternatives are harder to identify!
I have a vague recollection of seeing some rehursal pics, probably via twitter (probably yesterday.....much of yesterday is rather vague!). I know that Damien didn't feature much, but I can't find them on the theatre site, or anywhere else. Did I dream this, or can someone point me in the right direction.

I do know what you mean though fifi, with all the BH excitement Damien's play has kind of slipped under the table. but the fact remains the man reigns supreme on stage and tv screen the month!
Perhaps not wise to begin any kind of political discussion on the forum ( i have found it is one of the things that causes the most arguments ) but anders lustgarten's thoughts on stepping outside of the mechanism of politics and focussing on the bigger picture is an inspiring one.
I am looking forward to hearing from you all how this vision and line of thought is brought to life on the stage and Damien's role within that.
Well, amongst all the Being Human hysteria today, I decided to see if there were any photos on the Royal Court website and "casually" decided to see if there were any seats left for the March 5th Post-Talk show. There was one left in row B, so I felt that had to have my name on it! :D
So, Matty & UJ I am going on that day too. Would be great to meet up, I'll DM you and give you my mobile number.

good idea - i'm upstairs in the balcony. found out this from the box office this morning...'At the moment we think the running time of the show will be approximately 90mintues straight through with no interval. As the show is still in rehearsal, this is still subject to change, but I imagine with the post-show talk it should finish no later than 10pm.'

great info Matty, that will be helpful to other members seeing the play! I hope the 3 of you going to the one with the post show talk get to meet up, and that Damien is present at the talk!
I got really excited when I saw this new podcast with the cast of Damien's new play - but alas, he is not in it. However it is a very interesting listen and the sans decor mystery is now solved!
