Thank you fifi, and agree with absolutely all you just said - sorry Lau i just realised i had not responsded to your previous post, and agree with fifi, it seems Toby has contradicted himself somewhat about the ending...

Whether it is diefinitive or leaving us guessing, I pray that there is some hope - agonizingly painful endings like Mtchell's were hard wnough but we know there was going to be a Being Human future, but a painful ending in all respects would be pretty much unbearable!

i fear you may need this fifi

Breathe, whimsy, breathe!

Look on the bright side. It'll be forever fabulous and complete. I'm just hoping not rushed.

Going by the statements, it sounds like it was the Beeb's decision, since Toby says he's grateful for the opportunity to do an actual finale. If someone at the top just doesn't care for the show, or get it, that's it. Living stopped repeating Supernatural ad nauseam and Showcase dropped Odyssey 5 because of the personal preference of new people in charge. Odyssey 5 was Showcase's highest rated show and critically acclaimed at the time, so sometimes it really does come down to personal whims.

I'm just glad it's looking to be a brilliant final season if the first ep is anything to go on. I'd still rather it end brilliantly than carry on for a few more seasons and end on a low. I've seen too many of my favourite shows do that. Like they say "Every good thing must come to an end". I've seen other favourite shows taken over by new writers and the whole soul is lost. The characters ended up so OOC that it was like watching a whole new show. Inevitably, I turned off, mourned the days gone by when it was written by the originals. Wished they'd ended when it was still brilliant. We should be sad but just enjoy what time is left.

For anyone interested, new article up in the fansite:

http://damienmolony.org/2013/02/07/final-series-of-being-human-announced-how-will-hals-story-end/

painful to write, especially when i wanted to just hide under a blanket and cry yesterday, but felt it important to write it out and remind myself of the bigger picture. i meant every word of it - especially the last sentence. it is obviously Damien focussed as this is a Damien site, but please don't think that i am not devastated about the loss of the whole show.

Lovely article, domino......and yes - the end of Being Human is most definately just the start of Damien's career.

The double whammy of loosing both Being Human and Hal in one go has been.......traumatic. Much as I loved him, when Mitchell left I held onto the idea that Being Human was stong enough to continue without him; and I was no where near as engaged by Mitchell as I have been by Hal.  Although I wouldn't want to see the series run out of steam I still maintain that Hal, Tom and Alex should have at least got a beginning a middle and an end.  And series 4 wasn't really even a proper beginning with Alex only arriving in ep 6.

However, I must admit that I have been in denial for some time.  I kind of knew this was coming and am relieved that I know now rather that finding out once the series had ended. And there will be a proper climax.  I hesitate to say 'ending' as I think Toby Whitehouse has been a bit contradictory. Not sure how the ending can be 'definitive and satisfactoy' whist at the same time keeping 'the fans guessing and speculating for years', but that sounds perfect for all of those writers out there - thank you, thank you for fanfiction.......

I'm really excited about the next 5 weeks. I only ask that Hal, Tom and Alex do not end up 'proper dead' as I'm seriously, optimistically and fervently hoping (against hope?) that the BBC will realise the error of their ways and Being Human will come back onto primetime BBC 1 in the near future! If you try to tell me otherwise I will put my fingers in my ears and sing very loudly!  It's how I cope!!!!! (I don't care! - my ship has already sunk!)

I'm at the sad but resigned stage now. We've had five years of this wonderful show which is more than some have had and i can remember when series 3 ended and the wait for confirmation of series 4 was torture. I was so glad there was to be a fifth.

People are starting petitions, Facebook pages in support and whatnot and you know, they're wonderful ideas in theory but whatever Toby has written for the finale, that is what it is, a finale. While i'm just speculating, i can imagine that he's written it with it being the last ever episode and any change to that may just cheapen it in my opinion. Please don't misunderstand me, I would adore it and would celebrate it if BBC3 had a change of heart and gave the show another series but series 5 sounds like it was written as the final one all along and that cast, crew and writers knew as they wrote it, that it was the final series.

I get everyone's bitterness. What will replace Being Human? right now absolutely nothing. What will is probably more of the same old same old reality stuff and 'comedy' that the channel seems to adore. What we must also remember is that BBC3 was (and for now still is) the home of Being Human, maybe the next 'Being Human' in writing quality and acting talent is just waiting to be discovered, waiting for it's chance to be in the limelight. Do we know whether Toby would want to write another series of Being Human? maybe but perhaps he's already said goodbye to them in his head and in his heart but i would not say no to a spin off, can you imagine a Hal spin off or a Mitchell in the Sixties spin off?

So like i said, i'm sad but resigned but once we see the final episode, i may be in a different frame of mind all together.

That's how I feel, ruby. If it ends well, then the story has been told.

I would really like to know who made the decision and why.

Just want to leave this little Toby Whitehouse quote from an interview with the Guardian in Jan 2012....

"But it never occurred to us for a moment to stop making the show. Not because we need the cash, but because we knew there were a 1,000 stories left to tell and 10,000 characters left to create.”

I have every faith the wonderful fan-ficers, will continue to tell them.

But, I am beginning to feel the show slipping away and it hurts

When I wrote to Damien in the summer I mentioned a wish for Hal  to somehow regain his humanity and end the pain of his struggle, in a way that had never happened before in the Being Humaniverse, but to see him go all the way to the other extreme in the process.

Since what you wrote in your letter is basically exactly what happened in Series 5, is it possible that you had an influence on the story-line?

No, god no... Maybe more that I was in tune with the (to me) inevitable trajectory of the show... as Toby and all knew it was the last series, they hard to somehow take it there, the premise of 'Being Human' and the struggle of all the characters all the way along always somehow pulling towards this as a conclusion... And we were given it in a way, that multilayered..but hang on a minute..that is so so Being Human...you could say I was part of the mass dream, as I am sure some of the other fans were!
