I asked Colin for a hint of Damien's apperance on twitter, so I could write something for the fansite on it, but I guess it is hard to hint without being spoilerish! Curious to know if Damien will be appearing as himself, or as a character scripted by Colin!
Colin is a king of comedic characters - as you saw on Life's Too Short - so his show will be filled with them, there is a little write up in the links given in this topic so far Halgal:
"Enter theCarnival of Monsters, a bizarre and hilarious world of sketches, stories and characters, presented by the sinister Ringmaster.
Meet such monstrous yet strangely familiar oddities as: Thwor - the mighty (but Leeds based) God of Thwunder; Len Parker - Nottingham born martial arts and Transformers enthusiast; Anna Mann - outrageous star of such forgotten silver screen hits such as Rogue Baker, Who's For Turkish Delight and A Bowl For My Bottom and many more."
The first show is being recorded this very eve, so we shall hear more about it soon! :curtain:
Thanks for the info Domino excited to see if Damo plays a character or is himself !!! Just read further down the topic he was at the first show too!!! Yay tht we get to hear it on the radio!!! :D xx

eek! hope it's not going to be very last minute, could be tricky for those travelling and having to plan. keeping everything crossed! hopefully you will all hear soon!
Meantime...here's a review from 2009 when Colin took Carnival of Monsters to the Edinburgh Fringe. the show has inevitably evolved since then but interesting to read this nonetheless!
this line stands out:
"there’s a genuine playful glee at wrong-footing the audience."
there is info about the show and characters here, so don't read if you don't wantto know!
Colin Hoult's Carnival of Monsters - Fringe 2009 Live Review
The title Carnival Of Monsters will inevitably invoke memories of the League Of Gentlemen, and thankfully Colin Hoult bears up well to the comparison.
He certainly shares the quartet’s strange, gothic sensibilities, but beyond the macabre freak show that provides a through-line for his collection of comedy sketches and theatrical vignettes, there’s a genuine playful glee at wrong-footing the audience.
Never apologise, never explain is one character’s catchphrase, and the advice is well-taken here. The best scenes are not those of brooding menace, but those that revel in big, exuberant gestures done for no rhyme or reason.
The hoodie-wearing crow who zips around on a toy tricycle, for instance, is tear-inducingly funny, not just for the obviously ridiculous image he portrays but also for the audacity of what Hoult does with it. Len Parker, an East Midlands Transformers addict turned karate devotee is skilfully undermined, while Anna Mann, a grande dame of the theatre is a merciless send-up of luvvie pretentiousness – an easy and familiar target, you might think, but Hoult’s semi-affectionate characterisation makes it fresh.
Although billed as a solo show following his work as one half – guess which? - of Colin and Fergus, Hoult is supported by Zoe Gardner, Stephen Evans and Dan Snelgrove who often have little to do but look menacing in white kabuki masks, but whose mere existence adds the potential for the unexpected.
There are jokes in it, though – this isn’t all about big performances. Nor is the show always funny, as Hoult occasionally pauses for a brief tale of the unexplained, making for an unusually theatrical hour. Rarely has the ghastly been this much fun.
Sorry for not being around on here for a while (been VERY busy) but I went to Colin's first recording of the radio show. I have to say I am very much looking forward to seeing Damien (if I get to go again ;)) in it, Colin was brilliant and Damien will end up playing some of Colin's characters (and some of them are the weirdest beings you could ever imagine!!!) It will be so funny to see/hear Damien do comedy instead of quite serious roles. I hope we all find out about tickets soon!
I gathered on twitter you had seen the first show, how exciting! thank you for that little bit of an insight, It must be a fantastic show to watch and be part of creating! how much audience participation was there? Colin replied on twitter that there was! I really hope it comes over as amazingly on the radio for those of us who will not be at the recording. And we will be expecting a very detailed description of the visual.
Hi Domino. It was AMAZING to watch and so funny! The audience participation wasn't too bad. Colin only picked on the front row and a couple of people on the 3rd row (the seat infront of me :-/). It was just him asking a few people questions and dan (who Damien is replacing that night) brought the microphone to people for them to talk. Not sure if Damien will be doing that, imagine if he did. Not sure a few of us would be able to say anything! At one point he also got everyone to stand up and repeat things after him and pull funny faces, although I struggled as I was laughing so much! Oh when it's on the radio I will do a detailed despcription of the visuals for ep 1 and 2 (and hopefully 3 and 4).

Oooh! thank you for that Lauren, great to hear more! very exciting to think of Damien being in control of a roaming microphone!
Just saw it.. some really good news and some really bad news all in one day. The radio show was going to be amazing, but it is exciting that Damien has had to pull out due to filming. I truly hope we see Crumb and Hal together again, one day
I didn't hear from anyone that their ticket application was successful either Lisa.... but do agree with you Halgal, it will still be an awesome show without Damo! It is a bit gutting that we won't hear him as well as Colin, I must admit this was one event on the horizon I was extremely excited for.
