I've been wondering why the big secret? Is it normal to keep info about the cast so under wraps, even after filming has begun? A big change, like adding a new regular, is something the company would want to announce when it's best for them, so I'm beginning to think this could be a regular gig for Damien.

Well i thought Stephen Hartley's role was as a regular but it seems as though he may have been a guest actor, he tweeted today, saying filming was over for him and thanked Matthew M, Jerome F and Adam R. No mention of Damien at all and he is being very close-lipped and coy about it all which is a bit weird because he used to drop filming tweets about Being Human regularly while filming that (unless he's not really allowed to?) It's all very baffling and frustrating. Does his Spotlight page not say anything yet?
Damien has never been a self advertiser and is pretty quiet in general on Twitter at the moment, I do think his hands are probably tied on this one, but agree it's frustrating not to hear more about his appearance, when others have been included in media. Had he initial pic/ tweet not been posted though, we'd all be none the wiser about Damien, so atleast we have had something to be excited about for a few weeks now!

The press release for Ripper St has been delayed by the BBC because Damien has already been cast as the new Doctor, and they want to make sure that his role in Ripper St raises his profile ahead of the announcement.....
I think that the reason he says very little on Twitter is that he is worried he might let the cat out of the bag if he says anything at all. Hence the short #lions tweet!
I have been trying to keep myself objective and not get carried away ...but with all the Doctor Who speculation lately... I am beginning to actually wonder in the same way about the reason for the press release delay fifi!
He's back in Dublin, i'm almost convinced his role is longer than just one episode. I wish the press release would hurry up and be released so we can find out if that's the case. He's been in Dublin since the end of April and it's now June, a single episode doesn't take that long to film!.

because i have been shown a skeleton of the press release Lisa which pretty much mentioned the main cast and Joseph Mawle as new cast member.. however, this may mean that the press release is just not that detailed at this stage.

I have my reasons to believe Damien may not be included in the pres release. which makes me wonder if it is indeed a guest role as opposed to something more.
Out of curiosity, what would those reasons be? He's been tweeting from Dublin this week (a weather and food tweet), if his role was a single episode, he'd be done by now. It may be a two episode role but he's still in Dublin (and being very mysterious about it)
And either guest or a (semi) regular role, surely he'd be mentioned in a press release, listing people who are appearing apart from the principle cast.
And if transmission dates continue in the fashion of series 1, the first ep of series 2 should air between Christmas and New Year, all going well.
