Also loving the blue tartan suit..and the hat! Flight looks sharp and dapper in that one...and oh.... leaves me somehow breathless *loosen corset* smelling salts needed!
Oh my holy I think if that gaze swung around to look directly at me I would spontaneously combust.
What strikes me most about this photo is how hard he looks, as in tried, tested and street worn. (Mind out of gutter!) This suit is all angles & lines, the hat is all sharp corners, his stance is assured, his face all hard planes (he's doing that sexy jaw clenching), his gaze piercing.
In contrast with the more innocent, eager looks in his other two outfits. The one he's first wearing when introduced to Reid - the hat is round, the clothes slightly large, the tartan pattern not as pronounced. He looks like a young chap who raided his dad's closet. And very deferential manner in how he looks up at Reid, with a hint of a "I shan't let you down you'll see" smugness to be sure, but then in the promo pic with the shiner he looks a bit beaten down, as well as beaten up.
Then the brown outfit - he looks a bit like a ragamuffin. His gaze is open, innocent. His stance is relaxed (back to his Irish roots, he feels more confident?) and a bit cocky.
I love how his outfits are indicative of his inner self and how with just a few changes in his stance and facial expressions Damien can convey so much in a static photo. His suit choices seem to reflect his journey throughout the series. Bravo costume department and bravo Damien!
Monday can't get here soon enough!!!

Oh and I love the little clover detail on the pocket watch chain. I have high hopes we will be hearing his Irish accent more pronounced as Flight proves himself and is accepted into Div H and grows in his confidence.

Oooo, hadn't thought about it quite like that Whimsy, but I do agree that the blue suit - and setup of the shot - seems like something we'll see at the end of the series rather than at the start. Love the comment about raiding his Dad's wardrobe; he looks to me as though he couldn't decide what to wear to impress Reid so decided to wear everything!
I have to agree Ruby, the only hat that's ever really suited him is the Fedora. oh that did look lovely on him!!!
Kat, I did wonder just how many layers he has on. Your summation about not knowing what would impress & throwing it all on is perfect!

When doing rewatch with hubby we both commented how awesome that POV was, with the 3 of them looking up. They had the perfect expressions on their faces - on pins and needles waiting!
Mr. Speers appearance was such a blink and you'll miss it moment. I missed it the first time! (major wi-fi twattage kept stopping the live stream and skipping it around.)

Can we just take a moment to enjoy the glory, not only of the image.....(although that cannot be denied) but also what this actually means. Damien has, quite literally, become BBC One's poster boy! lol!!!
Makes me want to add the caption...."Show No Mercy"!!

Right now I'm just jonesing on the floppy hair. And the lips. Have they gotten more luscious? *le sigh*
(we need a le sigh emoticon)

Ahh....screen caps. Why do they always give me so much pleasure. lol!
I find it really....weird! There was always something about Being Human which felt as though it was....mine, somehow! I can't really explain it properly.....but seeing Damien in Ripper Street - this proper, BBC One, grown up programme - makes me feel kinda....emotional! Not that Being Human wasn't a proper grown up programme..... I did say I can't explain it properly!!!
I do think whoever is BBC One's FB editor is a Damo fan - he's been everywhere! Especially considering he is really a "second-string" character in the programme. You kinda get the feeling they're plugging him loads now because there is something bigger to come...???
Whimsy, I love longer hair on him, so floppy hair makes me very happy. I think his face looks fuller, and yes the lips are more luscious. Apparently he isn't always hungry in Ripper Street. Amazing how his look changes with each character he plays!
He's spectacular in any role and moving more and more into the spotlight.

He'd have told me to join him, and I would. - still true!
I do like his hair in this, i rewatched this morning (uninterrupted, when i watched it on Monday night, for some strange reason, my son who doesn't watch television downstairs, came down and watched the last half an hour with me which distracted me in itself) and i could hear his natural accent more clearly, watch his facial expressions (he's an ambitious one, once or twice i got the impression though he was the new boy, he was just humouring Reid) and i had the same thought, seeing the chap in the doss house scene who tweeted the pic of the three of them (and basically through clever/accidental detective work, Damien's new project was revealed)
Glad you all enjoyed the screencaps! It is a very interesting process freeze framing moments - it particularly brings to light the nuances of Damien as an actor again, and his chameleon facial expressions.. for me this is the first time I have seen him act beyond Hal and Being Human and it is fascinating to see him embody an entirely new character but bring the same level of depth. I like that we've not got a handle on Flight yet.
Thanks for posting the BBC One header in this topic too fifi! I feel so proud as a fan to see Mr M taking top billing there!
Funny you should say that Kat, the same thought has crossed my mind a few times - remember the Doctor WHO hype? (how could we forget!) well, not that but something.....
I have just been crying fresh tears over the final part of Ripper Street 2-2..it's just so emotional..perhaps that is why I couldn't bring myself to do screencaps before.
