My sister is recognised by some of the actors she goes to see multiple times. There's a difference between being a dedicated fan and being a crazy stalker. If the actor sees you at the backstage door, or at a pub near the theatre, or at any official function to do with his work, he gets to know his fans who aren't nuts. So you're fine, Carrie.

A few weeks ago I went to see 'Dead Dog in a Suitcase (and other love songs)' at Bristol Old Vic......another production by the fantastic Kneehigh Theatre Company (who also did 'Tristan and Yseult'.....which I raved about previously)  Apparently it's based on The Beggar's Opera (which I've never seen) and I really only went to see it because it was Kneehigh, and Tristan and Yseult was so brilliant.  Well - it didn't disappoint!  Dark, funny, brash, touching and disturbing.....it's the first time I've heard an entire theatre audience wimper in unison!  And the most amazing finale whose ambitions would seem more suited to a far larger venue....and so totally worked that it left me completely stunned!

I think I preferred Tristan and Yseult because I think the storyline appealed to me more....but I will absolutely go and see anything and everything that Kneehigh produce and would totally recommend everyone else to do so too......if the opportunity arises!

Thanks for the responses.

I've been to see 3 Winters at the National Theatre. Has anyone been to that yet. Its a lovely play. I have a few tickets because Alex Price is in it. Going Boxing day... has anyone been to a boxing day show? I'm wondering how many of the 7 understudies will be on.

Also been watching Urinetown go see it before it closes. They had covers on last night as well as the 2 actors who moved into other roles and 2 new ones. I have to say the Bobby cover Joel Montague was fantastic actually made it his own rather than be a complete imatition. Also the one taking over the character Mr McQueen, Alasdair Buchan made it his own... Marc Elliott played it very nervous but Alasdair completely camped it up.

Just also finished going to see Tis Pity She's a Whore at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. That was brilliant. I'm really going to miss it. Every show I went too was a little different. Found some more actors who I'm def going to see in other things. James Garnon for one... he was brilliant. Noma Dumazweni was hypnotic to watch and of course I went to see Philip Cumbus. Seriously watch him in stuff he is amazing. Yes that was the one who knew I'd turned up before *embrassed*. I suppose it wasn't too bad in the end because I never got to meet the cast (Aside from Phil) but I got a signed programme from the cast for my birthday. Which I nearly crying at during the interval!

Going to see Ruling Class next year Ive never seen James McAvoy in anything so avoiding seeing anything until after I've seen him on stage.

Wow, you have been busy Carrie! Lucky you getting to see so much theatre. That was so nice of the cast to sign a programme for your birthday.

I know! I obviously went too many times! I doubt I'll ever get anything like that again.

carrieharayel.tumblr.com/post/104567206691/couldnt-post-earlier-but-here-all-the

I don't know who wrote the note... :-\ I assume it was Noma since she asked me on twitter when my bday was. Shame I couldn't meet them all though. Its a little different going up to actors when there is a crowd (all usually waiting for one actor) like with Birdland & Richard III than when there isn't.

Carrie, I'm hoping to see Urinetown. Hope I don't miss it. Still haven't sorted tickets for Charles III which I'd love to see. Things are just too crazy right now.

Urinetown finishes 10th Jan but they do day tickets for 20 quid. Be careful if you sit right in the front row... one of the actors just stares at people in the front row or dead center (depending on where they spit it out) you may get blood on you. There isn't much gap between the stage & front row.

I'm going to see The Ruling Class next year too, Carrie!  Unfortunately for him, in my family James McAvoy will forever be known as Mr Tumnus....

I'm seeing The Ruling Class too, fifi. Got tickets for March.

Saw Charles III last night. Brilliant! Powerful and thrilling. A modern Shakespearean tragedy, right down to the blank verse, an ideal way to portray current royals. Characters and their agendas aren't just juggled well, they all have valid points to make. Superb.

I don't get to see anything in London nowadays. I used to go on day trips with a man from the Island who arranged coach trips to musicals but he has stopped doing it now as he was having trouble filling the coach. I might go to Chichester this year to see Mack and Mabel (Michael Ball).

Carrie, I never did get to see Urinetown. So many shows, not enough time. Or money.

Pearl, that's a shame you lost that service. How many are you short? A bit of publicity, perhaps?

I think that the organiser doesn't want to do it now. It is quite a hassle arranging coach trips (I have done it in the past). Anyway, my sister and I are going to see Pasha Kovalev and his professional partner Anya Garnis at the Winter Gardens in Ventnor on 5 April.

That reminds me, I saw Edward Scissorhands just after Christmas. Ballet's not really my thing but I loved this. Truly magical.

I've been neglecting this topic really badly lately!

I went to see The Life and Times of Fanny Hill at Bristol Old Vic a couple of weeks ago.  With a cast of only 6 (one of whom is also a musician) and some very clever staging, it's had some fantastic reviews...and they are all totally well deserved!   Caroline Quentin was excellent as fanny - an aging prostitute who is 'commissioned' to write her life story (as an erotic novel) to pay off her debts - but as she can't actually remember any of it she enlists the help of 3 other young 'ladies'.  Written in the mid 1700's, it's bawy, very rude, and extememly funny!  The stories which they reveal are at times also very poignant and heartbreakingly sad....Gwyneth Keyworth (who played Nathan's pregnant girlfriend in Misfits) absolutely broke my heart as Swallow.  I don't know if it was adapted at all for modern tastes, but I was surprised by the extent that it is the tale of the exploitation of women.....it is certainly the women, rather than the men who are the more sympathetic characters.  If anyone has the opportunity to see it, then do....you won't regret it!

So....next Saturday I'm off to see The Ruling Class - which has also had some excellent reviews, so I'm pretty excited about that.  Carrie - I'm expecting it to be....mad!  I shall let you know my expression after I've seen it.  And yes!  That is the same day that I'm going to see The Hard Problem.... Ahh - happy, happy day!! (Thanks Becca!!!)

I also have tickets for me and my daughter to go and see Les Miserables at the Queen's Theatre, London in April....I think it's fair to say that she is waaaay more excited about that than I am, but I'm looking forward to it none the less!

And we are going to see The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time at Bristol Hippodrome...but that's not until August or something...

I'll be seeing The Ruling Class at the end of March. And I recently discovered Maxine Peake's Hamlet is getting a showing at the cinema.

UJ - I'd completely forgotten,  but they were filming when I went to see it! So you might get to see the actual same performance which I saw! I really enjoyed it and thought Maxine Peake was excellent, so I'd thoroughly recommend you go see it!

The Ruling Class was pheonminally good!  The first half was absolutely hilarious, the second much darker... It's a pretty long play though....and to be honest I did start to fidget just a little bit about half way through the second act (it was ridiculously hot in the theatre).

The characters are all rather caracatured - a bit like characters out of PG Wodehouse novels - except for Jack (James McAvoy) who - despite being schizophrenic - seems more real and more geniune than any of them.  In the first act he is engaging and lovable and entirely sympathetic which makes the way he is manipulated and his downfall in the second act really poignant.  Everything about the production was good - staging, lighting, etc - and the entire cast was excellent....but James McAvoy was simply incredible! He sang, danced - even rode a unicycle - he just radiated energy.

If you can....go see it - it deserves all of those brilliant reviews and then some!

Carrie - my expressions is definately smile

OK...sorry...just need to add - on a shamefully shallow note - having seen James McAvoy and DaMo both stripped down to their undies in a matter of hours(!!)....DaMo definately has the edge....

Both James and Damo in their undies! fifi, sounds like you had one hell of a day!

I'll be seeing Damo this Saturday and James at the end of March. I like to spread my naked actors throughout the month.

My sister and I are going to see the rock opera Tommy at the Opera House, Blackpool in September. Joe McElderry is playing Tommy and it is directed by Paul Nicholas.  Here is a clip of when he played the role in a one-off performance back in 2012.  This time the show is most likely the beginning of a UK tour!
