A digital spy article in support of Damien as the twelfth Doctor
""Being Human veteran and rising star Damien Molony would make for a fantastic 12th Time Lord - anyone who saw him as the vampire Hal on BBC Three's paranormal drama knows that he can do dark, he can do funny and he can do eccentric. And with Being Human having now departed our screens, he's also available...
What's more, Molony wants the part. Here's a quote from February of this year: "The Doctor is one of the most iconic parts for an actor to play, up there with Sherlock Holmes [and] James Bond, it is such an epic series. Following in the footsteps of so many great actors, it would be an honour to play The Doctor…" - make it happen, Moffat!"
I found this article which says that he seems to be favoured by the BBC bosses. Not sure if it's true or just a rumour though. "Many fans have suggested that Damien Molony, Russell Tovey or Chiwetel Ejiofor are among the favourites to take over, with strong rumours emerging that BBC bosses favour Damien Molony."
The betting page has people on there which I think are out of the BBC's league! Damien Lewis for example is now a major Hollywood actor after his role in Homeland.
I like the fact that Damien's name is being mentioned, which shows he is a possibility.
Domino, when I click on your link on the first page of this thread it just takes me back to the same page!

I very much hope it's Damien but I fear that they may decided to shake things up a bit and maybe head off some of the discrimination accusations by choosing a minority for Doctor.
The suggestions of a woman for the role really bothers men. I'm all for equality but there's always the companion role and that's almost as big as the Doctor. My favorite supporting character so far is Martha. I was also very much partial to Mickey and wished he had had a larger role. The Doctor always has been and always will be a man to me.

Thank you for posting the Wales Online article, HailLordHal
'with strong rumours emerging that BBC bosses favour Damien Molony.' is a particularly leading statement..that is how speculation of who people would like to see in the role, turns into the "have you heard?' kind of a rumour. Let's keep an open mind!
I am really aware that we have a number 'Damien for the Doctor' topics, not sure how to centralize them!
After a google search I finally found the lists of options and odds with Damien on it, and at number 2. Phew. For a second there I thought maybe you all dreamed it!
There are some obvious and brilliant suggestions out there, and some delightfully daft ones. If Damien doesn't get it, Rory Kinnear would be great, so would Ben Whishaw ... I could just list all the names already on the list. Stephen Mangam's already looking cool with the scarf and he would be fab too.
Simply because I misread something, I now think Cher would make a cool Doctor.

I already linked it on my second post UJ, sorry if I didn't make it clear enough, there were lots of bits of info flying around yesterday with the growing Who hysteria!
The female doctor idea is certainly a thought provoking one! Especially if Damien played her River Song
As older members may remember there was also a suggestion Damien play The Master... The thing about a versatile talent such as Damo is he could play anyone, in my view.
I think Ben Daniels is too old and also too well-known to play the Doctor. Both David and Matt were comparitively unknown when they took the role, as is Damien.
Whether Damien ends up in the role or not, it is heartening to see so much support for him and recognition of his talent, not just from the fandom, but media at large!
Here is a wonderful piece promoting him, from the Guardian blog
"My personal choice, one shared by many friends and colleagues, would be Damien Molony, whose vampiric Hal in Being Human had just the right blend of regal charm and slightly madcap pomposity. Having just wrapped up on Being Human, he's in the market for a new long-term role."
I'm happy to see another article emerge after all this buisness with betting being closed and stuff...it would be amazing if damien became the doctor :) x

this sentence intrigues though "Molony has presence and character.." (yes) "..to shake off some of the zanier elements of Matt Smiths incarnation" agree... but Damien could portray ANY flavour of Doctor including zany if that is what they wanted. Quirk, a darker shade of zany, perhaps.
With all the publicity he is getting from various places, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he didn't get some major role in the very near future. Even if it isn't The Doctor.
I have to admit that I'm having trouble picturing Damien doing zany, though he's talented so I'm sure he could.
I for one am hoping for a little less zany this time. I prefer quirky over zany. David Tennant's Doctor pushed the envelope a bit. Matt Smith's Doctor shredded the envelope into little tiny bits. He speaks so fast I have a hard time keeping up. I'm constantly having to ask my boyfriend what he said. I find myself wanting to give him a dose of ritalin to see if that helps.

Exactly Pearl, which is why this hype is fantastic news irrespective of the outcome!
I have every faith that casting directors everywhere are making very canny choices before someone else snaps him up and Damien's agents phone is ringing off the hook!
Yes, my feelings were mixed on the announcement that Damien had joined the cast of Ripper Street (for more than a couple of episodes). It makes me think that he probably isn't the 12th Doctor. There is still a chance though.

Yeah I really want Damien to be the next Doctor, but since he's doing Ripper Street I dout he will.
