I suppose it's easy to hide who it is when filming hasn't started, even though the person z's probably desperate to tell people. Wonder where it's going to be transmitted as well - was a lot easier to hide people around Television Centre than most other studios...
Have we got enough people to mount a 24hour watch on Heathrow (and, ideally, Dublin) for the next three days just to see if he jumps on a flight? Lol!
I may have just butchered Shakespeare's most famous monologue on twitter. the shame!
To be The Doctor or not to be The Doctor /that/ is the question, Whether The Moff is to suffer the slings and arrows of outraged fandom...or take heed of an army of voices and by casting Damien Molony, end them.
Since Doctor Who was relaunched in 2005, the majority of Doctor's were 'up and coming'. When David Tennant's replacement was announced, there was a similar half hour show to announce the arrival of Matt. I remember watching it, wondering and when Matt appeared and said 'hello!' my first reaction was, if you pardon the pun, 'who?'. I hadn't heard of him. I very much doubt Twelve will be any of these big names the press are touting or who bookies are saying is the 'hot favourite', (ie this week it's Peter Capaldi.) I don't think the press have been right yet.
I want it to be Damien so badly, he would fit the criteria perfectly. I think if the Who producers want to take Doctor Who further into the future, Twelve has to be a relatively young man. While i have nothing against Mr Capaldi and don't doubt he's a superior actor, i think if he's announced as Twelve, Who will lose a considerable chunk of the market, yes he's a great actor but the younger generation (ie the teenage girls who coo over Tennant and Smith) will probably not warm to Mr Capaldi no matter how talented he is. He doesn't grab me as Twelve. When i first heard his name, i didn't say 'oh he'd be good'. I probably will be proved wrong in that respect but that's my gut instinct.
And if for whatever reason Damien isn't Twelve, could the PTB please give the role to either Andrew Gower or Aneurin Barnard. They both have very interesting faces that could make Twelve intriguing.

domino, love the quote. If you're going to abuse Shakespeare, that's the way to do it.
Capaldi would make a fantastic Doctor, ruby, but I agree tptb might not want to lose the teeny demographic. But for the Doctor to continue I think they do need to mix it up a bit and going older will help with that.

I'm not sure that the 'teeny demographic' would think twice about having and older Doctor (I sincerely hope not - the world isn't populated only by the young!). And anyway, Clara is quite young and now they have introduced two children into the mix too...so it would be good to have an older Doctor. It is supposed to be family viewing, not CBBC.....but I won't go off on that one again!!
UJ - I agree....I think Capaldi would be brilliant. In fact, apart from Damien, he's probably the only suggestion which has made me go - 'yeah...I could see that'.
Still not sure how I feel about Damien as the Doctor......so I'll be totally made up if he is....and maybe relieved if he isn't (best of both worlds. lol!) And I have no idea how likely it is - I just really want to know....like now!!! But, either way, it's is just fantastic to see how much support he has. Doubt very much I'll get to see the live broadcast...so it looks like I have a date with twitter at 7pm tomorrow evening!
BTW - domino - love, love, love the shakespeare.....
hi peeps, reading your posts with interest, I have had to resign myself that it is impossible to know which way they will go with the new Doctor, and never really considered they had a plan about age or anything.. rather than just who auditions and feels right for the part, to them, now.
Interestingly, Matt Smith had already auditioned for the part of John Watson on Sherlock and had already been 'noticed', so one wonders if someone else had also been semi earmarked.
glad you enjoyed the shakespearian moment - the fan base, both DW and Damien's - are all on tenter hooks right now and it will ne almost as interesting to me what the reaction of those fanbases will be to the casting choice. the feeling I am getting is they could extinguish a portion of the fans by making the wrong choice at this point.
I think whichever feature - think it was RT - got it right when they said the initial fan reaction will be 'What? No! Never!' regardless of who it will be, unless it was your fave to begin with!
Either way, I think Damien will be flattered by all the attention he's had from people that they think he's got more than enough talent to do the job!
That's what I reckon, Kat. There'll be a lot of 'er, really?' And then whoever it is will probably prove to be fab and of course we couldn't imagine anyone else in the role.

I am coming round to the opinion that I want someone else in this particular role. Not that I wouldn't want Damien to land such a high profile part, rather that, if he was The Doctor, that would be it for any romantic scenes! It is rare for The Doctor to have even kisses!
Just to clarify to everyone who may be visiting the forum today, we have no information or idea on WHO the next Doctor will be! () we are completely in the dark, just like everybody else.
But... wherever you stand on Damien becoming the next Doctor, it has been A-MAZING to see the support for him in the role and the recognition of his talent.
