Whimsy, I've never seen Being Human (sorry I realise that is heresy here!) but I thought your story was amazing! It was so compelling that I couldn't stop reading even though I was supposed to be working! The love story was intense and passionate and swept me away. Hal's struggle was so involving and moving and I loved Sylvie's strength. Your hot scenes were so well written. So envious of your talent and your stamina for writing so many words. This has inspired me to keep on with my new story about Flight. I can see some similarities between Flight and Hal - they both struggle to be good men although not in quite the same way! Sylvie is also quite like my character Rosalie who sees the good in Flight and loves him fiercely.
Well done on writing such a wonderful story

Oh wow, blushing  Thank you for such kind words.  Though I don't think they are that well deserved, there are so many good BH stories out there...

But OMG, you haven't actually seen Being Human?!  Go - RUUUUN - watch it!  From the beginning is best of course, but if you want to get straight to Damien, there is a "summary" video for S1-3 on the S4 DVD, and Hal's prequel and you're good to dive in. Flight is a wonderful character, and Damien is fantastic as him, but Damien was meant to be Hal, and Hal was meant to be Damien, does that make sense? 

My story stems from one single monologue that Hal says in S5.  Here's a video (ignore the subtitles - I'm not even sure what language that is) 

Thanks again for the praise.  Makes me want to get onto finishing the story... *looks around guiltily*  It will be finished, just been a bit distracted and haven't gotten back into that headspace...

The praise was definitely well-deserved, Whimsy. Your story has made me want to watch Being Human to find out more about Hal. He certainly sounds like an intriguing character and I can understand why everyone here loves him if he is like the character you have written!

I have seen a clip on YouTube of Hal speaking French. Oh my goodness!

Keep writing, you certainly have a talent for it. I look forward to reading the rest of the story :)

bravo whimsy, as always, just excellent writing and truly captivating characterisation. Also incredible moving, I always get emosh reading your stuff.

(It might be wise to add a little adult content warning for those chapters with a little grown up stuff in it... we had that convo way back when this section of the forum was created )

I love all your writing whimsy but you have excelled yourself with this chapter, there is so much goodness in it in terms of content and style! it's sophisticated.. and funny.. and observant. The seeds you plant for beginnings of things about Hal that we know and are dear to us.. like his routines and lists.. and his ghost friend... and his secretly singing! Yodelling! Most of all though I love the layers you give to Hal throughout the whole story....because he is a character who is ultimately fathomless... as if we can never reach the bottom of his depths.

Content on that one got away from me.  Totally meant to be a lighter chapter but there you have it...

My Hal is very similar to S4 Hal, very dependent on his routines, on his support system, and resistant to change.  Slightly dazed and confused at times! LOL  He's hanging on by his fingernails.  I have a few more seeds to plant before the end... smile

I played with a different style of writing on the first scene, styled to be a bit more like a poem and eliminating the pronouns, to indicate a shift in his perception.  something that is my own headcanon for Hal, the times he goes into a kind of trance.  He did it hovering over Eve in S4E2, he did it with Mr. Snow in the werehouse, he did it when he was about to drink the blood after Crumb.  Separate to how he gets on KiaOra or when he's blood drunk, and not that he's about to "shift" personalities... anyway I hope it worked. 

And glad you liked my little singing scene.  It came as a flash of inspiration and I giggled all the while writing it. biggrin

Whimsy, I have watched the scene that inspired you now. It made me cry, probably more so because I've been reading your story. I think it's the bit where he says "she just looked disappointed" that upset me the most.

SQUEEEEEEEE....

I'm so in awe of this wonderful gift Sae made me.  She is absolutely PERFECT.  She is as breathtaking as Hal said, and just as I imagine her.

Tomorrow I'm off to find a frame. I almost don't want to frame her, because the texture of the paper is so glorious to touch! (I'm a texture girl, that's why I love playing with fabric and papers)  But I want her protected.

Domino, she's just Hal's type.  All the women we saw in his life were brunettes.  And they all look may look delicate but are very strong-willed.  That's what Hal needs in his life, that's what he's attracted to, women that however sympathetic they are to his needs, are not doormats.

whimsy, I'm blown away by your latest chapter, and don't really have the words. So detailed..and so many little references that bring a smile. Charming doesn't do it justice, though it is charming, but it has greater depth, feeling and the descriptive passages are wonderful prose too. Thank you for allowing us to continue to journey with Hal, very special reading.
