Thank you for the kind words ladies! You make me want to keep writing! Of course I will continue to write till the end... but sometimes it's hard to find motivation when it feels like I'm just writing for myself. While I AM certainly doing that, feedback = love
This was meant to be a less intense chapter; thank you for calling it charming domino. The last few (well really so many of them) are so full of heartache, I felt the lighter side of their life together needed to be represented. And a chance to throw in some Sylvie mischievousness.
Domino, language with Hal and the Regency period is such a gift... and a struggle! Modernisms are the bane of my existence! I think I had one chapter where I successfully took out all contractions, sounded very Ripper Street-ish to me. But some things just don't sound the same, not as funny or lack the right punch. And while I research phrases used in those times, I find it hard to use most of them. I'm writing a story set 200 years ago, but for modern readers. Trying to find that balance.
Part of me will miss how I do lapse into a more formal way of writing/speaking when I'm really immersed in the story... at times it does feel like poetry (which I do no write) finding the right words to evoke the feeling that I feel imagining the scenes. At some point I'd like to post inspiration picture sets for each chapter, relevant lyrics, and the music...
Rosie, glad you like the details. How many historical rabbit holes I've followed... not everything makes it in, but I hope enough to add depth to the story without becoming a bore. And it's fun to hint at little in-show references that I've built up my own head canon for. The tulips backstory, that one was hinted at in chapter 13 in one of Jacob's musings as well, but not directly. I have about 4 individual one-shots partially written during 1784, including my head canon for the 1000 tulips. They were things I came up with when I was developing Jacob. And then I have a one-shot set 25 years after this one ends, and another one-shot set 55 years after... well they are all in the plans, but I have to finish this novel-length one first!
I better shut up I'm getting rambly!

There is a darkness to your latest chapter whimsy, which I must admit I like very much. It feels like the story is building towards something climactic... like a brewing storm, which is very compelling. Atmospheric and tense, nice work. Thank you for sharing your writing, I'm sure I'm not alone in appreciating your time, energy and inner muse.. it continues to be very special.

Wow whimsy, for one minute I thought you were going to go off canon with Sylvie! Gripping and suspenseful, Hal's angst, sustained throughout, is palpable. Thank you for creating and sharing another believable chapter for us to escape into.
I always get very excited when I see a new chapter posted for this fantastic story! I've only done a quick skim read through so far but need to do a proper read before I comment.
Oh no, no breaking canon for me. No matter how much I would love to avoid the heartache...
Let's just say I am testing these two, trying to see how far their love will go. Exploring why Hal would still think of her to stop himself, 200 yrs later.

I always feel joy and trepidation when I see a new chapter of this wonderful fic posted. Joy because it's always a pleasure to read Whimsy's incredible writing. Trepidation because I KNOW HOW IT ENDS!!
Thank you for sharing your latest masterpiece whimsy, as always you write superbly and have Hal's mannerisms and vocal phrasing down to a tee, I can see him speaking and how he is saying it when reading. So much tension and tragedy!
Writing Hal's mannerisms is one of my favorite parts of this little exercise. I see clearly every little tilt of his head, the movement of his hands. I hear every posh inflection, roll my eyes at every quip, sense every little breathy wobble in his voice. I have to restrain myself from overwriting it! Damien masterfully fleshed out so many of Hal's distinct quirks.
