Whilst we wait (impatiently!) for more news about Damien's role in Ripper Street, I got to wondering what type of role I'd like to see him play...
We know he spends at least some of it in a suit, but could he be a policeman, like Inspector Reid? Or is he more of a gentleman? Could he be a patron of Long Susan's establishment? Or a medic, wanting to learn from Captain Jackson?
Is he a good guy or a bad guy? Personally, I hope for a bit of both - we know he can play complex characters after all.

My first thought has been that he's some kind of Policeman, starting off being a bit of a wrong 'un that somehow has a good side and ends up helping (hoping for two episodes!). Or he's on secondment, maybe from Dublin, to see how things are done.
why not J-B, and I am not saying it for the titillation factor I like he idea of a controversial character and he could have all kinds of backstory and hangups and...
sorry Pradakat, I am aware of the gender portrayals in Ripper Street though, which are partly contextual...but there have always been challenges to the status quo whatever time period and i would like to see that in Ripper Street.
I like your idea of a policeman on secondment, unused to the London streets, a little naive and overwhelmed, Captin Jackson takes him under his wing and leads him slightly off course....
I never said I wasn't amenable to the idea (and the potential for a state of undress is more than appealing!) just surprised that was your first thought, lol!
Teacher would be good, but we probably wouldn't see much of him; unless he's a love interest for Mrs Reid???
Some great ideas here, I have thought about what his role could possibly be and there have been some great suggestions here. I like both the teacher and the young detective on secondment.
Could he be a possible suitor for Rose maybe? She does seem intent on bettering herself and even though her first attempt last series almost cost her her life, maybe she'll try again and perhaps there's more to her possible suitor than meets the eye? hmmmmm I must admit, i'm dying of curiosity and wish we could have a little clue.
Season one had a scene in a molly shop ... Damien has the bone structure for drag, sure, but his costume in the pic suggests either a copper or a gent. And with Victorian gents, that could mean anything.

Oh noooo! UJ & Pradakat please dont go there! (About seeing Damien in drag!) trust me as a gay guy i can tell you that this would not be a good look for Damo! I have no problem with him playing a male pros but not drag! cop & crook is ok too!

Blame James Franco, I watched one of his earlier films where he played amale prostitute and it was a brilliant role with lots of room for angst and pathos.
Ok so let's explore the possible 'villain' roles he could play...... How about a high class criminal ..like a diamond runner or even a super fit jewel thief who performs gymnastic acts to obtain his swag...or maybe i am getting a little pink panther !
.... a baddie who uses intelligence and guile..and is too clever to get caught ..manages to slip out of H Divisions' hands...they can never get the evidence or nail him and he is always turning up in their investigations (guaranteeing a return role)

The mystery of Jack the Ripper's true identity is finally solved - it's all so obvious now that I know!
I'll take whatever role will give him maximum exposure.........by which I mean screen time, obviously!!
I still haven't gotten around to watching the first series of ripper street so I don't really know what the feel of the show is to guess a character....
I would love to see something completely different for damien though. Seeing him have some real rough and tumblr wouldn't go Amis...

Yeah I'd like a total departure role too Su... serial killer is perhaps a bit too close to vampire - even if we never actually got to see Lord Harry on a total rampage!
Ooh I dunno though, I always felt a bit sorry for Hal. I'd like him to play a really evil character and see him be vicious and scary! Or the opposite and be a bit of a wimp and a lovely dopey romantic....

Dopey romantic would be amusing; like a bad stalker for Rose, all poetry and "own picked" flowers and general drippyness! hahaha.
Something else I also thought of was some kind of slum lord or something like that where he can be completely evil to his tenants but with a veneer of respectability...too much like Hal though there?
I did have a completely hypothetical thought this morning (as his costume, certainly in the original pic, is incorrect), but what about some kind of 'evil genius' Frenchman? We would get to hear his gorgeous French accent again...and he could be truly devious...
