I've stuck this in the Theatre forum as most of us who go and see live comedy are likely to see it in a theatre rather than anywhere else!

I know Fifi went to see Bill Bailey last week, but who else goes to see comedians do their thing?

Last one I went to, although one could argue he's not a comedian, was Gyles Brandreth at the Udderbelly on London's Southbank (basically, it's a big inflatable purple cow that has a small theatre within it!).  He was talking about "Looking for Happiness" and was very amusing.

My next one is currently Ed Byrne in December, who we've seen before and is brilliant...but who have you guys seen, or want to see?

The first stand up comedian i saw was Jack Dee, back in 1993 when i was six months pregnant with my son.

I've seen Eddie Izzard, twice i think and loved it (but my abiding memory of seeing him was coming down with a stinking cold a few days after, my sister who came with me, did too)

I've seen Lee Evans twice, he is amazing, so energetic!! (mild understatement) and my hubby and I have seen Ross Noble twice (he's from my town but we love his random eccentric humour)

Also seen Billy Connolly, back in 2001, two days after 9/11. He was fantastic.

I'd like to see Eddie Izzard again, i missed his last tour.

I've only recently started going to live comedy & can't understand why it took me so long. I saw Chris Ramsey last week, the second time I've seen him & he was hilarious as was his warm up act Carl Hutchinson who I saw as part of the Hull Comedy Fest last year.
I also saw Mark Watson last year & intend to see him again this autumn as he's coming back to my home town - confirmed it in a tweet to me!

I see Russell Brand on 28 March & can't wait for it as I've wanted to see him for ages.

Comedy is the most subjective of the arts I think. You can absolutely adore someone but everyone you know can't stand them.

I agree that I can't stand Russell Brand myself, but can understand why others like his type of humour. Ricky Gervais is another, although he's not technically a stand-up as such. Been to see all his shows - my husband really likes him - but never been floored by anything he's done. Dara O'Briain, on the other hand, one of the funniest guys ever...but you may all disagree! That's comedy for you!

Agree with you on the subjectivity of comedy Kat. I for one couldn't bear to go see Ricky Gervais so bravo to you for being a good wife & going with your husband.
I also agree with you about Dara O'Briain (forgot I'd seen him). He was unintentionally hilarious when I saw him as he bent down to speak to an audience & split his trousers! Did the second half of his routine in tracksuit bottoms with his shirt & suit jacket.

I too like Dara O'Briain. I also think the man who plays Mrs Brown - Brendan something - is very funny. It is actually the only comedy show we watch nowadays. Notice, both Irish?

I have seen only Finnish comedians, don't say much to anyone but one of them makes stand up comedy also in English, Ismo Leikola. He has sort of dark humor when he makes comedy in English, in Finnish he's not so dark. Have seen him live couple of times.

On youtube of course I have seen lots of different comedians around the world, but my absolutely favorite is Sami Hedberg, he's super hilarious. It's a shame he doesn't do stand-up in English.

I like Dara O'Briain, i love his dry humour. And the blond haired chap who has his own BBC3 show and guested on Mock The Week...Russell Howard... he's very funny on that as i've discovered. I also like Milton Jones, he's old school groan out loud at the clever puns but i like him. I tend to not like the ones bordering on the offensive, Frankie Boyle comes to mind. There's funny and there is just cruel and he's a bit too close to the latter for my taste.

My husband likes Mickey Flanaghan but he's not my cup of tea and i can't stand smug Ricky Gervais, he is the definition of the word. Russell Brand is okay in small doses.

I do kind of like Brendan whatisname (O'Connor?) too.

It is Brendan O'Carroll (I think) who plays Mrs Brown. Tim Vine makes me laugh/groan (delete as appropriate) with his one-liners.

My favourite comic to see live is Adam Hills.... I love live comedy... Been to Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the last three years. Going this year for 23 days and hope to see loads of comics, 98 days to wait now...

I have seen lots of live comedy over the years. My favourites include Stewart Lee, nick helm, eddie izzard, ross noble, Simon Munnery, David O'Doherty, Mark Watson, Tim Key, Marcus Brigstocke, Colin Hoult, Jason Byrne, Sean Hughes, Miles Jupp, Alex Horne, Pete Firman.

90 days now... I love going to London Comedy Store and seeing the Comedy Store Players too... I've seen them other venues too, including The Globe, which seemed very strange...
