10 Competition Tips!

#1 You need to be holding your 'Homage to Hal' on your piece of paper in your pic, but for those concerned about posting their photo, your face does NOT need to be in it!

 

#2 Your written 'Homage to Hal' can be just one word, a quote, poem, haiki, lyric..(max 200 words) sometime the most simple is the most powerful!

 

#3 Your homage can be written any way you like, typed, handwritten, or any writing medium, as long as it is clearly readable and your forum name is visible

 

#4 you don't need to be a 'good writer', OR write lots! entries will be judged on most moving, most heartfelt, has the most impact, most creative

 

#5 The competition is open internationally, the DVD can be played on any region-free player or by using VLC (happy to give info)

 

#6 This is your chance to show how Hal inspired you and say a 'thank you' to Damien and Being Human! :)

 

#7 this is your chance to win a very cool and totally unique thing personalised by Damien himself

 

#8 All entries will be seen by Damien, each will have their own page on a professionally made photobook, to be sent to him after the competition

 

#9 Take your time, there are 4 weeks to enter! Maybe try out a few and see which you like best then post it on the fan wall

 

#10 Have fun!

Great question, I would say that because the competition is all about the 'homage to Hal', the main message is what you are holding up.

I am so pleased to hear it has got you thinking and you are going to enter!

The reason we suggested people holding their homage in a photo is because that in itself is a homage - because Damien did it for his profile pic as Hal.

But, you can be as creative as you like about the photo itself, as long as it contains you holding your homage, with as little of yourself showing as you choose (you can just show a hand or even a finger!) and it doesn't detract or obscure the homage.

Remember, every competition entry is going to have it's own page in an A4 photobook to be given to Damien, so bear that in mind when making yours!

So happy to hear you are entering, I know you are a massive Being Human and Hal fan!

I don't think I can do anything for the competition. I am not at all creative as far as writing is concerned. My forte is painting but that isn't really what is required, is it?

Also I have been back and forth to the doctor's this week as I have been diagnosed with high blood pressure. It seems to have come out of the blue and the nurse says it is "off the scale"! The doctor took it too and it was a bit lower but he has put me on tablets to see how I go. Not feeling 100% at the moment.

Pearl sorry to hear about your health issues.  I was ill for several years, I sent you a PM you about it.

One thing that actually helped during those years was to indulge in my hobbies.  I don't feel creative in many areas - especially writing! - so I found other ways to express myself.  Why don't you use your forte to make your homage?  Even painting one single word that describes Hal to you?  Or his name, or something simple like that, just getting creative with the painting of it?  Looking at Domino's example below, maybe make his name out of symbols that describe Hal, ie Marigolds, lute, dominos, etc...

This is a visual competition, and will be printed into a beautiful colour photobook for Damien.  I think it would be lovely if you painted something.  Damien seems to have an appreciation for colour and unusual things. (ie his fascination with shoes LOL).

As the above example showed, you do not need to be artistic or gifted to make a simple homage.. that happens to be a quote I use a lot in my daily life and is possibly the Hal quote that inspires me the most.

Please don't be shy or anxious about making an entry for the comp, I know all of you are huge Damien and Hal fans - this is a great way to say thank you, that deserves a tiny bit of your time doesn't it? And it is such a fabulous prize and everyone deserves a chances to win it, so don't let it slip away!
